1 | Is this phrase in scripture? | 1 Corinthians | inmyheart | 67973 | ||
jlynette, I also here this phrase. It may come from the below verse. 1Cr 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and "God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able", but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. If I can't handle one hundred dollars, why would God give me one thousand to handle? God will only give me what I'm capable of handling right now. God bless |

jlynette... This is a phrase that is often thrown around in Chrisitan cirlces as a way to encourage one who is going through difficult times (death, illness, divorce, etc). But the problem is that this statement is untrue. You don't have to be a Christian long to know that God gives (or, more appropriately, allows) us way more toubles and trials than we can ever handle alone. You see, God does not want us to handle our troubles alone. He wants us to grow ever deeper in our dependence on Him. If we tried to handle our problems on our own with out His help, we would (and often do) find ourselves in a much worse circumstance. Many times, I believe, God allows everything in our lives to be shaken up just so we can run to Him and grow deeper in our relationship and trust of Him. |
