1 | Is homosexuality actually forbidden? | Romans | leecappella | 89715 | ||
The verse in which this question seems to come up with me is 1Corinthians 6:9. In looking at various bible translations and comparing this verse, it seems to me that 'homosexuals' as we know them today is not what is being spoken of here or in 1Timothy. Traditionally, 'sodomite' and 'homosexual' have been taught to mean the same thing or that they are synonymous. They are not. A 'sodomite' is a male cult prostitute or a quasi sacred devotee to licentiousness via prostitution. The context is idolatry and the sexual acts that were done in service or worship to false gods like Baal, Molech, Ashtoreth, etc. A good link to visit is www.cebiaz.com/book. Let me know what you think. God bless. Leecappella |

Hello Leecappella, The meaning of the Greek word used in 1 Cor 6:9 is "a male who engages in sexual activity with a person of his own sex" (BDAG, 3rd edition). Sodomy is being condemned regardless of where it is performed--temple worship or otherwise. Steve |
