What New Testament precedence do we use for "Revival" in our churches today? |

Parousia: (coming or presence)nice name! Romans 12:2 True "Revival" really is intended, in my opinion, for Christians. To call a set period of meetings intended for "renewal" or reviving the backsldden or carnal Christian is the true meaning of REVIVAL. I think what the churches are trying to do is inaccurate terminology. Perhaps "Operation Outreach" would be more accurate if the purpose is to reach out to the unsaved. That's how I read and understand my Bible. No better example is the Billy Graham Crusades. In fact and deed they are crusades. What do you think about my perception of revival? agape, justme |

justme: Frankly, I couldn't agree more. I raised the question because I have a good friend who is preaching on "Revival" and he has asked my opinion about an issue or two. I found that I feel like the church is applying the wrong word to an event, as valuable as it is, which is patterned to accomplish something else (generally evangelism). So far, you and I are the "choir". Thanks for sharing. Parousia |

Parousia: I will sing tennor, if you take base! This is a sad mistake the church makes. Sunday after SUNDAY, many hear nothing but salvation messages, and perhaps all are saved! Who gains from that when the message is intended for ears that are not there to hear? Our Pastor TEACHES chapter by chapter, a book at a time. That is feeding the flock! I have been a Baptist for the first 55 years of my pilgramage on this planet. The last two years we belong at Calvary Chapel in Osage Beach, MO. My spiritual desire to grow has increased, and I am responsible for my spiritual growth. What freedom that has given me! I am not saying Baptist's are wrong or are bad. I just say there are churches out there that are different and meet peoples needs just as well. Maybe we will have a few more to start a "choir". agape, justme |

justme: I sing all parts equally well... if you get my drift. I love expositional teaching/preaching. I gain so much more from that than I seem to get from topical (there are exceptions of course). Free Will Baptist is my church affiliation, in Joplin, MO. We are neighbors, sort of. Frankly, it was a charismatic teacher who got me headed down the "study to show yourself approved" road. I love the Word of God and what it does to you when we surrender to it, apply it, believe it above all else. Do you have a translation preference? If stranded on an island I would ask for three... ESV, NLT and Amplified. Hope I don't scare you but I also love to read The Message by Eugene Peterson. Very dynamic!!! Choir is dismissed for now. Parousia |
