Hi, Steve; It seems to me that any definition of the word "apostle" must account for both Paul and Barnabas ("But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of this, they tore their clothes and rushed out into the crowd, shouting..." - Acts 14:14) and for Andronicus and Junias as well ("Greet Andronicus and Junias, my relatives who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles" - Romans 16:7) Paul identifies apostleship as one of the spriritual gifts (1 Corinthinas 12, Ephesians 4). Unless one holds to the belief that gifts ceased at the end of the first century (I don't), one must assume that calling apostles continued and may continue today. Hello Steve Good catch concerning Barnabas. Adronicus and Junias are more uncertain. Still, I'll need to go back and take a look at this. Steve |
