John, "The Book of Hours" is one example of illuminated books from the medieval period. If you would like to pick up a copy of the book, you may purchase one that was published in the 16th century. It's currently available through abe.com for a nominal price of only 100 thousand dollars. Better grab it while it's still available at this low price! :-) ..... If you would like to buy it, I promise you that I'll hold back on my plans to purchase it and let take advantage of this special offer! --Hank

Whew... is there a Readers Digest abridged version? I might be able to afford "The Book of Seconds" if it is in paperback. Not sure I'd have time to read it, though.

Doc, I'll scout around for a Reader's Digest copy of "The Book of Hours." Used Reader's Digests usually sell for a dime, which is more in line with my budget. ..... Book prices must have been exorbitant back in the Middle Ages. I'd imagine that a subscription to Reader's Digest back then must have run at least ten thousand dollars a year, and no telling what King Arthur had to pay for a copy of the New International Version bound in calfskin. He probably had to work knights in order to pay for it. :-) --Hank
