1 | How can I know if a demon is in someone | John | SCH | 153065 | ||
I offer my humble opinion and would like to offer some thoughts in hopes that it my help you in seeking answers to your question. Let's look at the verses mentioned by seaeternity John 14:12-13 and give you a few things to think about. First let's look at where Jesus says "anyone believing in me shall do the same miracles that I have done, and even greater ones, because I am going to be with my Father." What does this mean to you when you look at the words "anyone believing in me" ? Did you know that even the devil and his minions believe in Jesus. If that is the case, then what are we to take from these words? I believe we have to look much deeper into what it means to believe in Jesus. (Let me say this before I move on. Jesus words need no help here and stand on their own. I do not mean to add to His words. That is not what I am trying to do. I'm only trying to point out what I believe about His words. God forgive me if I should ever mislead anyone. Amen). But to the lay person that may read this, I am trying to point out in my opinion what I believe the deeper meaning to be. Believing in Jesus requires much faith to do the same miracles that He did. Believing in Jesus means that we choose to put our trust in Him. This is where we differ from the devil and his minions. They may also believe in Jesus, they know He exist and they know who He is, but they choose not to follow him. We on the other hand, choose to put our trust in Him and follow Him and accept Him as our Lord and Saviour. The question is, how much faith do we really have? Does a lay person have the kind of faith in Christ to perform such works? How many Christians actually have the faith required to do these things? Next let's look at what Jesus says about asking Him for anything. Jesus says "You can ask him for anything , using my name,and I will do it, for this will bring praise to the Father, because of what I , the Son, will do for you." What do you take from these words spoken by Jesus? Notice He says ask using His name and He will do it. In other words, we can only ask, we cannot do it ourselves. But, Jesus tells us all we have to do is ask and He himself will do it. Then he goes on to say "for this will bring praise to the Father, because of what I, the Son will do for you." Again, he points out what He will do. That in itself is important to note. Jesus says, He will do it. Not that he will get someone else to do it but He Himself will do it. Praise God! Also, notice why Jesus says He will do it. He says He will do it because it will bring praise to the Father. Everything Jesus has done or said was to glorify the Father. I believe this should also be what we as Christians should always seek to do. When we ask, and our request and motive is to glorify the Father, I believe you can be assured through Christ words that He will do it for you. So to answer your questions. In my humble opinion, it depends on ones faith in Christ. Jesus only requirement was that you believe in Him and ask Him. The question is, does the lay person have the required faith and believe Jesus can and will do this if they ask? Is the lay person asking for something with the purpose that the Father is glorified? Faith in Christ is a personal thing. In my opinion, it is not measured in years spent following Christ. Although it is true, we develop a closer walk with Christ the longer we seek him and most of us do develop a much closer walk with Him over time. But in my opinion, this is because of our own lack of effort. I do not believe this is always measured in time. I believe it is measured more so in your willingness to turn your life over to Him and completely trust in Him and seek Him. Don't mistake knowledge of the scriptures or the amount of time you have been a Christian for your closeness with Christ. The day you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you have all that comes with that. It's up to each individual how close they choose to be to Him and how much faith they have in Him. It's through reading His word, prayer, and seeking Him daily each step of the way that we can grow closer and strengthen our faith in Him. But this can be accomplished in a shorter period of time if you truly turn your life over to Him. I pray that I have not mislead you or anyone else. I speak from the heart on my beliefs and humbly give my opinion on what I believe to be true. I pray this may help in some way as you seek answers to your questions. I am but only a man seeking God's truth with a desire to share and learn from others that are lead by the Holy Spirit. I hold God's words in my heart as sacred and holy and my prayer is that I never mislead anyone through my own ignorance. May God bless you as you seek his will in your life. From the heart, SCH |

Dear SCH, Thank you for your contribution to the forum. I take exception to your statement "It's up to each individual how close they choose to be to Him and how much faith they have in Him." However, lest I be too hasty in my criticism, might I ask if there is a Scripture upon which you base this statement? Thank you! :-) In Him, Doc |
