In John 4:23 Jesus says (But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.) About service, I think that the greatest service we can do as Christians is to worship God (and I'm not talking about church services!) Worship of the One True God to me means EVERYTHING I do, say, think should be an active worship of God. By this, give glory, honor, and credit to God. There are numerous passages in the Bible of how we can serve God, but I would definitely refer to Isaiah 1:16-17 and Psalm 51:17- these passages refer to active worship (which, like I said before I equate with service) and not the worship that we would like to DO all the time. Why?? Because God wants the heart. Not the outward appearance of "service" or "worship", but the true, spiritual worship or service that comes from loving Him with all of our hearts, with all of our soul, and all of our mind, because this is the first and greatest commandment. (Matt 22:37-38) So, for your answer- to serve God is to worship Him, with every single ounce and fiber of our being, because even in our creation, we were created for this purpose and from true worship flows perfect, acceptable service. Lissa, We can also address the service question with Romans 12:1-2: Rom 12:1-2 12:1 I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. NAS Our spiritual service of worship is to present our bodies as living and holy scarifies, as you say, "by loving Him..", but what does it mean to love God? Is it to tell Him we love Him or to show Him we love Him? P.S. You must be a night owl! AO |

AO (I'm at work and the reason I can be on the PC at work is a long story..LOL) But Amen to your discourse above, that is true. I also love to look at Eph. 1:15 "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints" and I've heard from several teachers, that in this verse we can see that the Ephesians love the Lord, because they love the saints. I have seen this with the fellowship I attend now. It is not enough to say that "I love the Lord", but you must love the saints and sinners also. So, I totally agree. Also, Jesus says in Jn 14:15 "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments", therein is the true test of our words, for of our words James says in James 3:8 "But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God;" So, I definitely agree that the fruits of the Spirit will be manifest and "back-up" the statement "I love God." hidden in Christ, Lissa P.S. God has wonderfully blessed you with a love for His Word. Praise God that you have the promise of walking the "smooth path." |
