1 | What about the chariot of fire? | 2 Kin 2:11 | gate1 | 82982
I have often heard it preached that Elijah was carried away in a chariot of fire, but that's not what the bible says. So did the chariot come through and seperate them and then he was carried away by a whirlwind?

Dear gate1, This is an interesting observation. It is incredible what most people believe when something is spoken of a certain way for so many years. As you say, it looks like Elijah went up in a whirlwind, only having been separated from Elisha by one of the Lord's horses and chariot. I do not think it matters particularly HOW he was taken out of this world except that he, just like Enoch before him (Genesis 5:22), left this world without dying and was taken directly out of this natural place. The main thing is that it did happen. However, there may be some small or individual reason for the minor details and I appreciate your observation and will keep this in my memory for future reference and to see what the Lord may speak to me now that you have pointed this out to me. If you look in and around the scripture, II Kings 6:17, you will see another instance where we see the fiery chariots and horses of Israel...seeming to be the angelic armies of Israel. In this instance they are observed by Elisha, again. This time there are many of them. In Ephesians 6:12 we are told that we do not fight against flesh and blood, "but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Now in this case we are speaking of the spiritual armies of the Adversary, but in the scriptures above, in II Kings, we are speaking of the armies of the Lord. In Matthew 8:5-8:13 we see the Gospel account of a Centurian who came to Jesus to ask Him to heal his servant. Jesus marveled at his faith and his keen observation that Jesus had spiritual authority over the heavenly hosts much in the same way as he, as a centurian, had authority in the worldly sense. Thank you for your observation and I hope my comments are helpful to you also. Itiswritten |
