Lovly2me1 writes: "They say that God changes not, but so typical of the Bible, there is always contradiction" ..... [1] Please define who is "they" who say that God changes not. [2] Since I for one am quite unwilling to accept without substantial evidence that the Bible contradicts itself, please show proof of the truth of this assertion. ..... A statement of this magnitude without proof is utterly worthless. --Hank

oh sorry Hank, I thought you had read the first answer. "They", being Malachi 3:6 and many others too.

So, where is your proof that Scripture contradicts itself? Scripture is either inspired by God or it isn't. If it is isn't, then it is not necessarily of any more value than many other religious writings of antiquity. If it is inspired by God and is contradictory, then it is fallible and God is fallible. We can't say that God is infallible but the writings He inspired are fallible. If the Bible contradicts itself, then 2 Timothy 3:16 is a lie. If 2 Timothy 3:16 is a lie, how are we to be sure that other parts of the Bible are not lies too, or even conclude that the entire Bible is one big hoax? The Bible leaves us with but two choices: we believe it to be the true, inerrant word of God or we don't. Similarly, Christ leaves us with no viable choices, no gray areas in between: we believe He is who He says He is or we don't. Therefore, when we say that the Bible contradicts itself, we are saying one of two things. We are saying that the Bible is not the word of God, or we are saying that it is but that God contradicts Himself. Neither view is Christian. ..... I should think that anyone who has the audacity to state point blank on this forum that the Bible is contradictory would have the intellectual honesty to try at least to prove his statement. As I said before, a statement of this nature is worthless without proof. So please give this forum proof that the Bible is contradictory. --Hank

Oh sorry, does repent mean: to change? I don't know, it just doesnt look right to me. Now let's see... Mal 3:6 For I [am] the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. Exd 32:14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people. Now, if repent means to change, is this not contradictory? But, really there is so much in the scriptures that is contradictory, for instance, christians like to say dont judge, yet what does the Bible do but judge. Everything in it judges not only the sinner, but the Christian as well. How can you not judge people when you're always being judged? Now, I thought I had made the contradiction thing plain in the first place, if you dont see those two scriptures as contradictory (Mal 3:6 and Exd.32:14) well, maybe its just me. As for the bible being the Word of God, I'd have to say that there probably is no God and the Bible is a crock. But thats just my opinion. And Hank if the Bible were not so confusing and contradictory, Christians would not be so confused and you wouldnt need this FORUM. note: I think I used a different scrip in my last note, the one you questioned, but still, it is God repenting again. |

Then what are you doing on a Bible study forum? --Hank

Hank, Studying is how you find out whether something is true or not. You study and then you decide. What I found is after 22 years of thinking I knew God, that he either doesnt exist or he's just very cruel. And judging from the amount of things that Christians dont know, Id say, He probably just doesnt exist. |

My friend, please don't judge God by what His creatures know or don't know. May I ask you to do this: sit down and read the Bible from cover to cover with as much objectivity as you can muster. The fact that you have bothered to register in this forum possibly indicates one of two things: you are searching still and God is dealing with your heart and mind, or -- and I trust this be not true of you -- you merely wish to be argumentative with Christians for believing in a God that you think does not exist and poke fun at the Bible which you consider, in your words, a crock. Which is it? I shall remember you in my prayers, that God will deal with you and that you will come to a saving faith in Christ Jesus. You will note that this thread has been restricted and I believe you know why. --Hank

No Hank, I dont know why. Can you tell me? Is it because a Christian's faith is only hanging by a bare thread and for someone to tell you that they have been a Christian for 22 years and has just now, today actually, decided that based on what I seen of God and the things that have happened in my life, and looking at how confused Christians are, that I no longer believe? If someone had come to me with this, I would have just prayed for them, knowing they were just confused and needed help. Nothing like this could ever have broken my faith, but then thats just me.

Some forums are "anything goes" forums, but this one isn't. The Lockman Foundation, which owns this website, has determined that no attacks on the authority of the Bible will be permitted. This will be my final response on this thread. I do wish you farewell. --Hank

Wow. This thread witnesses to the importance of the forum guidelines. Clearly, any question about biblical truth is meaningless if one holds that the bible is not true. It never ceases to amaze me how we can become blind to God's truth by clinging to our own understandings.
