1 | What is the schedule for the flood? | Genesis | Shilitin | 235449
How long was the flood? I am having trouble making sense of Genesis 7 and 8. What was the schedule of events? 7 says the flood was forty days upon the earth, but the waters prevailed 150 days. 8 says the waters were abated after 150 days, but the ark didn't rest on Ararat until the seventh month but the mountains were covered until the tenth month etc. If day one is the first day of rain, on what day were the following events: End of rain, earth is covered, waters no longer prevailed, ark rested on Ararat, tops of mountains were seen, waters were dried up from the earth, the earth was dried, Noah got out of the boat. And of course what do "prevailed" and "abated" mean? |

2 | What is the schedule for the flood? | Genesis | EdB | 235450
The Bible says that it all began “In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.” [Genesis 7:11] Verse 12 says it rained forty days and forty nights. Verse 24 says the waters prevailed on the earth for 150 days. The ark still floating hit ground but the ground was still covered with water verse 8:4 says on the Seventeenth day of the 7th month. Then on 1st day of the tenth month the mountain tops were seen verse 8:5 40 days after the tops were revealed Noah sent forth a raven and a dove but it returned. Verse 8:6,7 Noah waited a week and sent out the dove again. She came back with an olive branch verse 11 Noah then waited another 7 days sent out the dove and she did not come back. verse 12 Verse 13 tells us on the 601th year on 1st month and first day noah opened the ark. But it wasn't until 601th year the second month and 27th day was the ground dry enough to come out of Ark. Total Year 601 Month 2 Day 27 [End date] Minus Year 600 Month 2 Day 17 [Begin Date] Equals 1 Year 0 Months 10 Days |

3 | Mistakes in Genesis 8, perhaps translate | Genesis | Shilitin | 235460
So how did the ark come aground on Arrarat on the 7th month, but the highest mountain tops weren't visible until the 10th month? Was the ark stuck on the very peak of Arrarat, which was almost as tall as the highest mountains, and then for the next three months, there was almost no drainage at all? I mean the bottom of the boat couldn't have been much below the surface, right? And the highest mountains were higher than Arrarat, but still just below the surface of the water. And the timing for the dove doesn't work either, does it? |

Hi, Shilitin... Think carefully. Start with an assumption of correctness of the Word. Read through the chapter repeatedly. Check some solid commentaries. With a little intellectual sweat, you can derive these answers. In Him, Doc |
