One other thing to consider about the rich young ruler. Notice the guy says to Jesus, "I have kept all the commandments". I'm sure Jesus looked at the guy and knew this wasn't true, he was boasting in his ability to fulfill the Law. So Jesus points to an area of the Law where he had failed. He is trying to show the need for a Savior, not tell the guy to give away all he had or he couldn't go to heaven. Hope that helps Mike |

Hello Mike, True enough. I just wanted to stay within the scope of the original question. As C.H. Spurgeon used to preach it--salvation is all of grace. The work of atonement is complete by the shedding of the Lord Jesus' precious blood which covers and removes all sin. There is no more work to be done. Steve |
