1 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Revelation starfire 194289
Cheri, Thank you for the info on E-sword....I'll check it out. I still wish that there was ONE compilation of commentaries though. I often read in BED and don't want to interrupt my time with the Lord by running back and forth to the computer. (But surely am thankful places like these exist....I couldn't have all that info available on my shelves without running back and forth also, so the internet is an incredible resourse!!)

Thank you for the compliment on the name,
but as in all things, it's HIM who deserves the
credit...( If interested, I'll add the story
behind this to my profile)

Also IF possible, could you send me a reply that includes the ISBN for that huge bible...I really
struggle with eyesight issues.

And Cheri....short for CHERIshed!!...
Maybe you might want to use HisCHERIshd1 :-)

2 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Revelation starfire 194285
Thanks Michael....I've never even seen one
of those (that I can recall)....I will keep my
eye out for one though now!
And God bless YOU also!!
3 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Revelation starfire 194284
You are so kind to take time to share all this
with me. Actually, since then I did get John
MacArthur's Bible (unfortunately in NKJ because
NASB wasn't available then). It is wonderful,
only, like you, I find myself going from one bible
to the next to try to understand passages.
Wouldn't it be GREAT if someone took JUST THE COMMENTS from EACH translation out there by each
prominent theologen and list them by chapter and
verse in ONE book...When just trying to understand a passage, (not an in depth study of a whole book) Commentaries are
too long to read through and many don't answer
(or tell me much more) than the notes anyway.
Again, thanks so much.
4 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Revelation starfire 194283
  Thank you for your reply..
Actually I had enumerated the passages and
should have put a designator to show that (like
a parenthesis)...so my 2nd ref was IS14:12.
I'm so glad you were able to make sense of it.

Actually I am just wondering why God refers to
satan and to His SON with the same reference.
That (to me) would be like calling both
satan and my son, "Hey Sunshine"....
Perhaps its too confusing to put in words. (sigh)
I do appreciate your effort and thank you!
5 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Revelation starfire 194263
Oh, Thank you....I didn't know that part would
be needed...so sorry:
1 Job 38:7 When the morning stars sang together
And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
2 Is 14:12 "How you have fallen from heaven,
O star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who have weakened the nations!
3 2 Pet 1:19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.
4 Rev 2:28 and I will give him the morning star.
5 Rev 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star."

I'm particularly referring to the Isaiah14:12,which is clearly about Lucifer and the Rev 22:16,which is clearly JESUS, although
Repeatedly throughout scripture (esp. if you
look at different translations) there will be
a reference to Jesus as the Morning Star.
It doesn't seem right for both to have that title,
so I'm wondering if in the original languages,
they are referring to different things (or even
different aspects??) of the morning star??
6 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Not Specified starfire 194249
  Morning Star: Satan OR JESUS??
This is a bit confusing....both
are referred to with this title.
I don't know how to figure out if
it is the same Hebrew (or Greek)
word or if they have different meanings?
Some help would be appreciated?
7 Morning (or Day) Star: Lucifer or JESUS? Revelation starfire 194257

8 Why did Satan want Moses bones? Jude 1:9 starfire 193342
I asked this same question once and was told that
it was so the people would set up a shrine
and begin to worship MOSES instead of God.
I guess we'll have to wait and ask Moses :-)
Keep questioning and seeking!

9 1JN4 Testing the spirits Not Specified starfire 193189
  I have several questions about 1JN 4:1-9.
It tells us to TEST the spirits and that every spirit that ACKNOWLEDGES and CONFESSES ....
What does this mean??
Satan acknowledges that
Jesus is Lord, but confesses?? I don't understand that. I'd think it would mean to PROCLAIM
or verbally state, but satan and his dominions lie. They could SAY they believe Jesus is Lord
and they've acccepted Him as THEIR LORD, the Son of God, come in the flesh, but be lying...

Also it says that acknowledges that JESUS CHRIST is Lord....
I was told that CHRIST is just a title, which meant Messiah or Rabbi.

In this day and age we NEED to seek our
Lord MORE than EVER and in doing so, must not be tricked. I heard satan puts
thoughts in our minds so we might think
it's God responding to us when it is not. (And not all can be looked up in
the bible...for example if we are praying for the answer as to whether we
should choose this job or that one, etc)

Thank you for any insight you might offer.

11 Matt 25:5 Why Bridegroom delayed?? Matt 25:5 starfire 190825
What were some of the reasons the bridegroom was
delayed? There was no polygamy in Jesus' day
so was this referring to the customs/rituals of
Jewish followers from years prior to Jesus??

I know the parable was to illustrate the need for
readiness for Christ's return to claim the church
(His bride), but am confused as to why the delay
and why 10 bridesmaids...were they all to be brides of the groom or were they attendants to
the bride? (Just wanting to comprehend the customs
with this part of my question).
Thank you

12 Anthology of Notes and StudyHelps?? Not Specified starfire 177534
  Hello,
When I study my bible I find I switch
continuously between about 5 or so bibles to read all the differences in
both translations and in notes-study helps. I know there is a parallel
bible, but I am wondering IF there is
such a thing as an anthology of bible
notes that collects the notes from various bibles into one book and includes as MUCH of the study helps as
is possible. I like to read a variety
because I find that many skip the verse
I need clarification on or many may offer a different perspective, which
is helpful also. Ex. in Genesis 19:8
where Lot offers his virgin daughters
to the MOB wanting to literally rape
the 2 men(angels) Lot was hosting.
I cringed to my very core, I was soooo
appalled. Searched and searched for some rational as to HOW
LOT could DO that and still (in later
passages) be considered a Godly man.

One study bible said it showed the depravity that one comes to accept when
living so close to the boundaries of
sin, another said it was because in those times, protecting guests was above all else (huh?) and finally another bible said that knowing the
mob was homosexual, they wanted the MEN,
not the daughters and would very likely
turn down the offer, but Lot was trying
to buy time to protect the guests and
diffuse the mob.

I know of no such study help (NOT a commentary, but an ANTHOLOGY of comments
made by various authors on each verse
of scripture). It would be GREAT if
it exists.

Thank you in advance

14 Bible verse: how man treats first wife Mal 2:14 starfire 176121
1 1 Pet 3:7 In the same way you married men should live considerately with [your wives], with an intelligent recognition [of the marriage relation], honoring the woman as [physically] the weaker, but [realizing that you] are joint heirs of the grace (God's unmerited favor) of life, in order that your prayers may not be hindered and cut off. [Otherwise you cannot pray effectively.]
15 Are we to give ALL to anyone wanting it? Bible general Archive 3 starfire 175775
  Azurelaw,
Thank you for your very loving reply.
I will most certainly look up those passages.
I find Matt 5:40 and Luke 6:29 confusing, but can
see that there is some message beyond the words
for Jesus to take it to the extreme. A long
time ago I'd heard (a pastor said) that to "turn
your cheek" actually meant to demand to be treated
as an equal. That for the attacker to hit you on
the R cheek (assuming they were R handed as most
people are) required them to backhand you which
was an insult...something that meant you were
of less stature than they were, thus Jesus said
to offer the LEFT cheek, meaning to tell them
to regard you as an equal. I found that interesting, but the coat/shirt stuff I find
confusing with very little commentary on it.

I'm not so much trying to "claim what's mine"...
if I wanted to do so, I'd have sued her as was
suggested, however without proof that she destroyed the will (it was all heresay in that
my father mentioned it to me privately, with no
other witnesses.) As earlier stated, I haven't even charged her rent, although it would be a great help financially. I do, however, want to
do right by my parent's lifelong work to honor
their lives and dying wishes. I'm sure they would not want my sister to face being homeless when my dad's 2nd wife has many many times more than
she'll ever need, but is filled with hatred and greed.

Personally, if I truly believed that God wanted
me to let her have it ALL,I'd be happy to do so,
(at least for my portion)as I've done so with
everything other than the house.
I'd refused to sue. I should tell you
we are not talking about a lot of money here (about 25K...after lawyer/real estate fees and taxes
it will most likely be 15-20K at best. That's
not a lot to someone who has money (she has
at least 500K between her own 1st marriage, inheritances and my parent's savings. That is
in addition to the value of the house)...
and being in her 80s, it's not likely she'll
need or even be able to use most of it. (Her health has been bad for many years already, but
not something that doctors/surgery/medicine can
not help with any longer.)

As I'd said, she's being mean as she was from the
night my dad died. Within 2 hours after his death,
she was throwing *everything* of his in the garbage. (much more can be said here...about how
she desecrated his grave, etc, but this is enough
to portray her mindset) This meanness is
especially apparent in that she will not even
give me my parents wedding bands (nothing fancy,
or of value other than sentimental -just plain thin gold bands) or my grandparents' 50th wedding
anniversary picture. (She didn't even know my
grandfather, and this holds no meaning to her).

When you are faced with long term unemployment, however, as my sister has been, and is in danger
of losing her house....either by not being able
to make the mortgage, or by having to move since
her neighborhood is dangerously being
taken over by drug dealers and vandalism, that
inheritance could mean the difference between being homeless (worst case) and moving to a bit
of a safer neighborhood upon retirement (best
case).

I just want to do what is right in God's eyes.
I've loved God as far back as I can remember...
back to my preschool days, but as stated in my
profile, I only came to learn to read, enjoy and
study the bible as an adult. Most of my experience with scripture has been in the past
few years and I'm very very blessed to have
this forum to get ask questions to help me to
understand and apply it to daily life.

Thank you again for your kindness and your
loving Christian heart. I pray our precious
Saviour blesses you abundantly for your efforts
to sincerely reflect Him to others.

  CDBJ,
I'm sorry, as I don't understand what you are asking,
I don't believe I'd understand your answer either.
I also don't see what being a believer all my life
has to do with me not understanding certain passages in scripture and how/when to apply them.
It seems to me the direction you are going in is not addressing my question and is not helpful to
ease my confusion. I am a believer, and I do
my best to understand God's will through scripture
which is why I'm asking others for help in doing so.
Thank you for your interest and for trying to help. I'm sorry I can't relate, but certainly know that questioning my validity as a christian
because I'm asking questions about scripture is
not helpful at all. It is actually burdensome.
I know that's not your intent, but given our
lack of communication, I think you'll probably
be able to better help in some of the other questions posted.
17 Give whatever to whomever?Mt 5:40 Lk6:29 Not Specified starfire 175761
  Matt 5:40 and Luke 6:29
Need to better understand these two passages.
Not sure how to respond in a situation regarding
inheritance and do not know if these apply
(to give whatever to whomever), or if honoring our
father and mother would take precidence
Please help me understand.

19 Are we to give ALL to anyone wanting it? Bible general Archive 3 starfire 175760
  CDBJ,
I appreciate your answer, but it is not a legal
question. It's trying to understand those
two passages of scripture to know when/how they
apply vs the commandment to honor our parents.
I'm needing some insight as to my approach.
I haven't decided whether as a christian I am
to never sue anyone or under what circumstance.
Obviously a lawyer will tell me to sue. That's
his/her business.
20 Are we to give ALL to anyone wanting it? Not Specified starfire 175740
Referring to Matt 5:40 and Luke 6:29, are we to let everyone who wants it have what is ours?? I'm confused.
My stepmom(didn't raise us or contribute to my parents' home or savings..married my dad AFTER he retired and my mom died)
destroyed my dad's will, claiming everything for herself (even down to
my parent's wedding bands and my grandparent's picture). She refuses
to turn over anything. By law, without
a will, 1/4 of the home is mine. She abused my father horribly in the last years of his life and has lived there rent free now for years. Finally I just
want closure and told her lawyer to liquidate my portion. She refuses to sell the house or buy me out.
(She has 20x the amount of cash it
would take to buy me out, so money is not the issue, she just wants to be
mean) I was told I have no recourse other than to sue her to release my portion. My sister is unemployed,in
her 50s and living in a horrendously dangerous area of town so I can't just
tell my stepmom to keep it without endangering my sis's future. Also,
I feel it would dishonor both of my
parents as they worked their whole lives for this house. Incidently, my
father's intent was for the kids to get half of everything which would have been valued at about 6 times what the house is worth. By destroying the will,
she got to keep it all, except for 1/4
of the house, but now refuses to turn that over as well. Reading scripture,
I'm not sure what I am to do....
honor my mother and father or give my
stepmom everything, even if it means
my sister or I could end up homeless?
Any Godly counsel out there??
Thank you

Matt 5:40 "If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.
2 Luke 6:29 "Whoever hits you on the cheek, offer him the other also; and whoever takes away your coat, do not withhold your shirt from him either.
