1 | gap therory | Gen 1:1 | garym1952 | 188351
In response I would like to point out that you haven't stated your background and experience in translation to indicate that you have the knowledge to say I'm wrong. I don't have a background in translation but I do know how to use reference materials from those who do have a background. Included is an excerpt from Strong's concordance: owm, yome; from an unused root meaning to be hot; a day (as the warm hours), whether literal (from sunrise to sunset, or from one sunset to the next), or figurative (a space of time defined by an associated term), [often used adverbially] :- age, always, chronicles, continually (-ance), daily, ([birth-], each, to) day, (now a, two) days (agone), elder, × end, evening, (for) ever (-lasting, -more), × full, life, as (so) long as (...live), (even) now, old, outlived, perpetually, presently, remaineth, × required, season, × since, space, then, (process of) time, as at other times, in trouble, weather, (as) when, (a, the, within a) while (that), whole ( age), (full) year (-ly), younger. As you can see the word can mean a space of time defined by an associated term such as the "day" God created the animals. I'm not saying that the "gap theory" is correct, only that the original may not necessarily refute it. I do know that God did create the universe and if I was convinced that the Bible clearly refuted the theory then I would certainly reject the theory. My concern is to correctly interpret what the Bible is really saying, and therefore I have an open mind concerning the theory. Further, if you would go back and read carefully what I wrote, you will find that I never claimed any expertise and stated plainly that it was only my opinion. I admit I didn't back up what I said with evidence, but I am new to the forum and I will learn. I have now corrected that oversight. One final point, I think it is important to discuss even controversial subjects in the right spirit. If you can show me that the creation account can be excepted literally as it is translated and it was indeed in 24-hour periods, then I will listen. Sarcasm is NOT necessary and it was NOT appreciated. Gary |

2 | Jesus and the "good" theif at the | John 19:30 | garym1952 | 188269
Do you remember the story of lazerus and the rich man that Jesus told. The explanation that I heard was that hell was divided into to parts. The "bosom of Abraham" side and the torment side. When Jesus went told the thief on the cross that he would be with Him in paradise, He was referring to the bosom of Abraham side of hell. It's the only explanation I have heard that explains what Jesus told the thief on the cross, and I think it makes since.
3 | Saying "AMEN"...outloud? | Deut 27:20 | garym1952 | 188268
As I understand it, the word AMEN simply means "so be it", which is close to the way you are using it. The person who objected to you using the word out loud in church may be the only one that has a problem with it. I noticed that you didn't say that the pastor said anything to you about it. If you are not disrupting the service and the pastor doesn't have a problem with it, I don't think you are doing anything wrong.
4 | 3 days,3nights in the earth | 1 Sam 30:12 | garym1952 | 188267
I think that the misunderstanding comes from the scripture that says that Jesus was crucified the day before the sabbath. What a lot of people don't know is that there were more than one Sabbaths. The first day of the passover week was also called the sabbath. I think that it makes more since that the scripture was referring to the passover sabbath, and not the weekly sabbath, since Jesus was our passover lamb. The passover week started on a different day each year. I believe Jesus was crucified on a earlier day. I think that the misunderstanding comes from that scripture and not knowing that there was more then one sabbath. Because of that, the Friday crucifixion has become tradition.
5 | Is Porn A Sin? | Col 3:5 | garym1952 | 188266
Jesus said that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart(Mat. 5:28).
6 | acceptance of a person but not belief | Bible general Archive 3 | garym1952 | 188265
I don't know if this fits your question exactly, but some Christians think that of they don't condemn people for what they do wrong then they condone it. I don't believe that. When they brought to Jesus the woman caught in adultery, He told her "neither do I condemn you, go and sin no more" (Matthew 8:3-11). Jesus never condemned her for what she did, but He never condoned it either.

10 | defiling bodies by eating meat? | Bible general Archive 3 | garym1952 | 188261
Jesus said that what goes into a man does not defile him, but what come out of the heart. When Paul talked about not eating meat served to idols, it wasn't because it might defile the body, but might cause someone else's conscience to be defiled. While I think we should take care of the bodies God has given us, I don't think eating meat with growth hormones defile the body.
11 | gap therory | Gen 1:1 | garym1952 | 188260
I tend to lean toward the "gap theory". As far as the age of the earth goes, I do know that the Hebrew word translated "day" is used other places in the Bible for longer periods of time. Although God could certainly create the universe in 6 actual days, I think there may be a problem with the translation into English. The important thing is that God really did create the universe and I'm not to concerned about how He did it. What I find interesting is that no matter what theories the scientist come up with it always leads back to the need for a creator.
12 | By What Right Does God Rule Man? | Ps 2:11 | garym1952 | 188256
By right of being our creator. I thing similar to the way parents have the right to expect their little children to obey them. Just as parents want their children to obey them for their protection, God knows what's best for us and ALWAYS has our best interest at heart. Everything He says to do is for our good. He really does know best and He is never wrong and never makes a mistake. He really can be trusted with your life. Remember, we are talking about God, is all powerful, all wise, and all knowing. He sees the future and all that is coming and He loved you enough to give His Son to die for you. In my opinion, to refuse obey Him is a very foolish thing to do. He loves you more then you will ever understand. Even if He didn't have the right to our obedience, I would still want to follow and obey Him. |

14 | Why does Jesus come as a thief? | 2 Pet 3:10 | garym1952 | 188254
A thief breaks into a home at night when everyone is asleep and not expecting him. Jesus will come when most of the world won't be expecting Him. However, the scripture goes on to say that we are not of the night that Christ coming should take us unawares. We may not know the day nor the hour, but we should at least know the season. In my opinion (although I could of course be wrong) the things that we see going on in the world is a strong indication that the Lord's return is soon.
15 | Christian freedom | 1 Cor 10:25 | garym1952 | 188253
As I understand it, there were a lot of idol worship where people sacrificed animals to other gods. The meat from the sacrifices was then given sold in the meat market. Some Christians had a problem with their conscience if they ate such meat. I believe that Paul's position on this was that any meat is alright to eat because it is sanctified by prayer. However, he would not eat meat offered to idols if it would encourage another Christian to eat the meat and their conscience bother them afterwards. The main point is that we are always to walk in love by being willing to sacrifice our own freedom if necessary so that others will not be harmed by our freedom. That's the best I can do to explain it.
16 | Trouble with New Testament Epistle | Rom 9:1 | garym1952 | 188248
I believe you are referring to Romans 9:3 where Paul is talking about the Jewish people and said in ,"For I could wish that I myself were accursed, separated from Christ for the sake of my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh,..." (NASB)
