1 | Charity or a Door Mat? | NT general Archive 1 | bravostarr | 104834
hello...i think it is awesome for your friend and the church to go the extra mile for this family. i don't have a clear cut answer for you...only God does, but in the gospels jesus says if you have two of something to give the other away...and anyone who asks for something, you should give them beyond what they ask for. when it comes to sharing the gospel the new testament is clear that we should strive to share, but yet to wipe the dust off our feet and move on for those who continue to reject. in my personal experience i find that attraction is just as important as promotion. if she won't take to your attempts to minister to her... --well, if it were me i may try to be less aggressive in my approach and just share as much love as possible. hopefully they will one day catch on to that and ask about why your so loving. i think that the gift of salvation is free and open to anyone who wants it...but maybe not everyone is at that place where they are ready...while we are doing our job down here...God is doing His job up there - and we are part of his tools. so , i'd maybe suggest not giving up on this family...perhaps you guys the first to ever show so much kindness to her...don't give up now. i'll be praying for you all...your question was an encouragement to me, because i often feel like giving up on people too. my mom has been struggeling with my dad to go to church. finally she stopped preaching to him but continued to show the love and continued to pray...and 20 years later he finally broke down and accepted the lord (last month), and i wonder what would have happened if she quit praying for him after 19 years. it wasn't until he saw her steadfast unconditional love that he recognized something greater working on our family. God bless you and your friends and this family. |

3 | What is God's name? | Bible general Archive 2 | bravostarr | 104228
hello there well although i wouldn't consider myself an "expert" on this...(i have not had years of study in greek or hebrew), i can tell you that in the bible there are many names for God...in the OT Lord and God are actually YHVH or Adonai (hebrew). many scholars today believe that the hebrew name for Jesus was actually Yeshua or Yashua. I know that it couldn't have been "jesus" because there is not even a J in the hebrew alphabet. Does this answer your question or are you more asking about the diety of the messiah? |

4 | "just" consequences? | Not Specified | bravostarr | 50731
God -by creating us...forced us into a contract. we can either accept christ and his free gift of salvation -- leading to the acceptance into the gate of heaven..or we by default burn in hell for eternity. i feel like when God created the angels ...and some turned on him..that the situation in heaven was Gods problem...i mean - we weren't even walking on earth yet. Satan is Gods enemy...i feel like (even though it is for the greater good) we are waging Gods war...and we were forced into this battle by birth...and if we lose then we have to suffer forever while God keeps all the happy winners in heaven as his blessed treasure. i'm sorry --i don't mean to sound so dramatic, but it hurts to see so many people die without christ (as i'm sure many of you know). how is this situation just? no one on earth knows with certainty what Gods definition of just is, its probably very different from ours.... yet i don't see how this can be "just." am i seeing it wrong? what do you guys think? |

7 | eternal life/death question | Not Specified | bravostarr | 50729
how does our father allow a person to choose their way into hell? my question is not "why"...because i know the biblical reasons why..but rather "how." because if a person chooses to reject christ and his free gift..then they obviously either are insane (and God will deal with them differently), or they don't TRULY DEEPLY get the picture or understand the seriousness of the consequences. since God is perfect..i must be mistaken -- can anyone help? |

9 | catholic and protestant salvation view | Eph 4:3 | bravostarr | 49239
i am certainly not interested in pleasing man. its difficult to look into history and see what the "right" religion is -- people have different views on that. in the meantime i consider my salvation and what it means to me, and trying to put that into context of the church i wish to be involved in. i am mearly seeking truth - and looking heavily at the differences between catholics and protestants...keeping in mind the subjective nature of man. since i know very little about the facts that occured over the centuries and what the church is supposed to be like, ..i have to rely on my subjective intrepretation of God and mans subjective intrepretation of the bible and church history. i realize that this may appear to be very foolish for me to say, for the time being -i want to be safe than sorry. there are cults out there especially on college campuses that come in the name of the lord - so they say; so to just blindly accept one faith without considering the "facts" can really hurt a person.
