1 | The coming of our Lord | Rev 19:11 | bliss_7 | 175254
Question: "What is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and why is it important?” Answer: The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is the hope of believers that God is in control of all things, and is faithful to the promises and prophecies in His Word. In His first coming, Jesus Christ came to earth as a baby in a manager in Bethlehem, just as prophesied. Jesus fulfilled many of the prophecies of the Messiah during His birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection. However, there are some prophecies regarding the Messiah that Jesus has not, as of yet, fulfilled. The Second Coming of Christ will be the return of Christ to fulfill these remaining prophecies. In His first coming, Jesus was the suffering servant. In His Second Coming, Jesus will be the conquering King. In His first coming, Jesus arrived in the most humble of circumstances. In His Second Coming, Jesus will arrive with the armies of Heaven at His side. The Old Testament Prophets did not make this distinction between the two comings. This can be seen in Scriptures such as Isaiah 7:14; 9:6-7; and Zechariah 14:4. As a result of the prophecies seeming to speak of two individuals, many Jewish scholars believed there would be both a suffering Messiah and a conquering Messiah. What they failed to understand is that the same Messiah would fulfill both roles. Jesus fulfilled the role of the suffering servant (Isaiah chapter 53) in His first coming. Jesus will fulfill the role of Israel’s deliverer and King in His Second Coming. Zechariah 12:10 and Revelation 1:7, describing the Second Coming, look back to Jesus being pierced. Israel, and the whole world, will mourn for not having accepted the Messiah the first time He came. After Jesus ascended into Heaven, the angels declared to the apostles, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). Zechariah 14:4 identifies the location of the Second Coming as the Mount of Olives. Matthew 24:30 declares, “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory.” Titus 2:13 describes the Second Coming as a “glorious appearing.” The Second Coming is spoken of in greatest detail in Revelation 19:11-16, "And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, "KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." © Copyright 2002-2006 Got Questions Ministries. 4 | How Do We Put On Christ? | Rom 13:14 | bliss_7 | 174320
How do we "put on the Lord Jesus Christ"? First we identify with Christ by being baptized (Galatians 3:27). This shows our solidarity with other Christians and with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Second, we exemplify the qualities Jesus showed while he was here on earth (love, humility, truth, service). In a sense, we role play what Jesus would do in our situation (see Ephesians 4:24-32, Colossians 3:10-17). We also must not give our desires any opportunity to lead us into sin. Avoid those situations that open the door to gratifying sinful desires.
5 | How are we to take this verse? | 2 Tim 2:15 | bliss_7 | 174234
Life on earth is not a script which we meaninglessly act out. It is a time of deciding wheter or not we will live for God, and then living out what we have decided. Because God will examine what kind of workers we have been for him, we should build our lives for his Word and build his Word into our lives-it alone tells us how to live for him and serve him. Believers who ignore the Bible will certainly be ashamed at the judgment. Consistent and diligent study of God's Word is vital; otherwise we will be lulled into neglecting God ans our purpose for living.
6 | A Question related to free will | Bible general Archive 3 | bliss_7 | 174179
It is not possible for us to completely comprehend the relationship between God’s sovereignty and man’s free will. Only God truly knows how that two work together. Scripture is clear that God knows the future (Matthew 6:8; Psalm 139:1-4) and is sovereignly in control of all things (Colossians 1:16-17; Daniel 4:35). The Bible also says that we have a free will. God does not force us or cause us to do anything (James 1:13-14). We are totally accountable for our own actions (Romans 3:19; 6:23; 9:19-21). How these facts work as one is impossible for a limited mind to understand (Romans 11:33-36). God created the human being to for His pleasure (Revelation 4:11). God is a God of holiness and justice as well as a God of love. These moral attributes are harmonizing, not opposing. When the laws of God are disobeyed there must be a judgment. God's laws demand that sin must be paid for. God can still love someone but He cannot allow sin to go unpunished. This is the reason that Jesus Christ came to earth, to die for the sins of the world. The importance should not be placed upon hell but by the fact that God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ to show His love for mankind. God has showed His love by sending His Son to die for our sins -- to take our punishment -- so that we could go to heaven. The judgment of hell is for those who refuse to accept God's love and forgiveness. |

11 | What is the likeness of God? Gen 1:26 | Gen 1:26 | bliss_7 | 173925
Genesis 1:26 - In what ways are we made in God's image? God obviously did not create us exactly like himself, especially in a physical sense. Instead, we are reflections of God's glory. God is sinless, eternal, and unlimited. Although we are given the potential to be sinless and eternal, we are also given the choice to fall short. We will never be totally like God because he is our supreme creator. Our best hope is to reflect his character in our love, patience, forgiveness, kindness, and faithfulness. Knowing that we are made in God's image and thus share many of his characteristics provides a solid basis for self-worth. Human worth is not defined by possessions, achievments, physical attractiveness, or public acclaim. Instead it comes from being made in God's image. Because we are like God we can feel positive about ourselves. Knowing that you are a person of infinite worth gives you the freedom to love God, know him personally, and make a valuable contribution to those around you. |

12 | Sorry 2Peter 2:20,21 | 2 Pet 1:20 | bliss_7 | 173811
In 2 Peter 2:20-22 Peter is speaking of a person who has learned about Christ and how to be saved, and has even been positively influenced by Christians, but then rejects the truth and returns to his sin. He is worse off than before, because he has rejected the only way out of sin, the only way of salvation. Like a man sinking in quicksand who refuses to grab the rope thrown to him, the person who turns away from Christ casts aside his only means of escape.
13 | Way was Mary chosen as the mother of Jes | Matt 1:18 | bliss_7 | 173708
"Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost." Matthew 1:18 (KJV) There were three steps in a Jewish marriage. First, the two families agreed to the union. Second, a public announcement was made. At this point known as betrothal, the woman was said to be "espoused" to the man. This was similar to engagement today except that their relationship could be broken only through death or divorce (even though sexual relations were not yet permitted). Third the couple was married and began living togeter. In other words Mary and Joseph were not married yet, they were "engaged". |

16 | Lukewarm Christians go to hell? | Rev 3:16 | bliss_7 | 173671
Hi Bereaniam, First I would like to point out that someone who is saved cannot lose his salvation, for more on this search for losing salvation on this forum. This verse is talking about the Laodicea church, or the "lukewarm church". Lukewarm water makes a disgusting drink. The church in Laodicea had become lukewarm and thus distatasteful and repugnant. The beleivers didn't stand for anything; indifference had led them to idleness. By neglecting to do anything for Christ, the church had become hardened and self-satisfied, and it was destroying itself. God does not want us to be cold, but there is more hope for a rebel to repent than for a halfhearted, in-name-only Christian who is self-sufficient. Don't settle for following God half way. Let Christ fire up your faith and get you into the action. |

17 | Meaning of baptism | NT general Archive 1 | bliss_7 | 173603
By baptism we confess our faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and testify of our death to sin and of our purpose to walk in newness of life. Thus we acknowledge Christ as Lord and Saviour, become His people, and are received as members by His church. Baptism is a symbol of our union with Christ, the forgiveness of our sins, and our reception of the Holy Spirit. It is by immersion in water and is contingent on an affirmation of faith in Jesus and evidence of repentance of sin. It follows instruction in the Holy Scriptures and acceptance of their teachings. (Rom. 6:1-6; Col. 2:12, 13; Acts 16:30-33; 22:16; 2:38; Matt. 28:19, 20.)
18 | Born in sin or into a sinful nature? | Bible general Archive 3 | bliss_7 | 173564
I think that we are born without personal sin; but we are born bearing the effects of the sin of Adam and Eve, inherited by the entire human race, since the sin was committed by the entire human race at the time - Adam and Eve. This innate spiritual weakness, this tendency toward evil, this absence of grace, which resulted from the original sin that the human race committed against God, is generally spoken of as being "born in original sin", though it is really more correct to say "born subject to the effects of original sin". There is no personal guilt involved.
19 | Advice on how it should not be practiced | Bible general Archive 3 | bliss_7 | 173553
I totally disagree with you or anyone who acvocates this practice. Those who advocate this practice need to consider what they are really attributing to the Holy Spirit. There is no Biblical precedent for being “slain in the Spirit” as we see practiced today. Jesus is the baptizer, who anoints with the Holy Spirit. The power really comes only from Christ, just what are people receiving through this experience? Do these displays of power become the convincing proof of God’s presence? John 10:41-42 records, “Then many came to Him and said, ‘John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this Man were true.’ And many believed in Him there.” John convinced the people without a display of miracles. It was the truth that converted them and made them into followers. It is by knowing the truth (the Word) that keeps people following faithfully, not displays of power. We don’t need to be slain “in the Spirit”, but cut “by the Spirit,” the Word (John 6:63; Hebrews 4:12). One way is by expositional preaching the other is offered by experience. One comes by the Word that is objective, that teaches and convicts through the Holy Spirit, the other is subjective, by a person touching you or imparting a power. The Word is Biblical, the other is not. The only way to know the true from the false is to test it. Jesus had the greatest anointing, yet, when He prayed for people they did not fall over; neither did Jesus go down when He was anointed. The Spirit came upon him as a dove, as a gentle companion. This phenomena and practice is foreign to Scripture. Can the Holy Spirit be thrown around like a force? This Spirit goes where the conductor tells Him to go. Biblically we are to submit and take our guidance from the Spirit, this is the opposite. Jesus taught that the Holy Spirit goes where He will, He chooses how He will be known in the heart and life of a believer, and it is not for any man to decide when His abiding in another is to be. In John 3:8 we read, “The wind blows where it pleases, and you hear the sound thereof, but cannot not tell where it came, and where it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” No one knows where the Spirit comes from or where the Spirit goes. The Spirit is likened to the wind. Those who can dispense the anointing seem to tell the Spirit where to go and know where He will go next and what He or “it” will do. Think, my friend! Where do we find these experiences? Even the apostles did not have such experiences! |
