Bible Question: I have a friend who feels that it was horrible for God to create hell and free will, and in return cast those who dont believe or follow the rules into forever pain. He asked a couple of questions and I wasnt sure how to answer. He asked, if God supposidly knows everything, then before he created the devile, before he created each human, he already knows what will happen to us before we are even born. So why would God create a human being that he already knew was going to hell? Or maybe is it that God doesnt know where we are going? Maybe he only knows what circumstances will come along in our lives and which decision we make will effect the outcomes? Is that he just does not know which of the two outcomes will happen because he cannot know what decision we would choose? And if God is all loving and forgiving... why would he make hell, the worse pain and suffering thing ever, for eternity? |
Bible Answer: It is not possible for us to completely comprehend the relationship between God’s sovereignty and man’s free will. Only God truly knows how that two work together. Scripture is clear that God knows the future (Matthew 6:8; Psalm 139:1-4) and is sovereignly in control of all things (Colossians 1:16-17; Daniel 4:35). The Bible also says that we have a free will. God does not force us or cause us to do anything (James 1:13-14). We are totally accountable for our own actions (Romans 3:19; 6:23; 9:19-21). How these facts work as one is impossible for a limited mind to understand (Romans 11:33-36). God created the human being to for His pleasure (Revelation 4:11). God is a God of holiness and justice as well as a God of love. These moral attributes are harmonizing, not opposing. When the laws of God are disobeyed there must be a judgment. God's laws demand that sin must be paid for. God can still love someone but He cannot allow sin to go unpunished. This is the reason that Jesus Christ came to earth, to die for the sins of the world. The importance should not be placed upon hell but by the fact that God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ to show His love for mankind. God has showed His love by sending His Son to die for our sins -- to take our punishment -- so that we could go to heaven. The judgment of hell is for those who refuse to accept God's love and forgiveness. |
