1 Difference between talents and gifts? 1 Corinthians Gail60 7916
You seem to already have a good handle on the topic of talents and gifts. I'm just a little curious as to why you asked the question in the first place. Are you testing us or just looking for conversation?

Love in Christ,
Gail
2 What does Job 26:5 mean? Job 26:5 Gail60 7874
Sounds like a reference to Hell to me.
3 Difference between talents and gifts? 1 Corinthians Gail60 7873
Spiritual gifts are supernatural given by God to saved individuals for the edifying of the church and to help the church fulfill it's purpose.

Talents are physical, often inherited, such as singing, painting, playing an instrument, acting, etc... They can and should be used by Christians to glorify God, but unlike spiritual gifts, unsaved people possess talents as well as Christians.
4 Gnosticism still alive? NT general Archive 1 Gail60 7869
Two specific verses came to mind when I read this question:

Daniel 12:4 - But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

2 Timothy 3:7 - Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Obviously knowledge has increased greatly in this age. It is the age of information. But it hasn't helped the World come any closer to God.

The whole New Age movement reminds me of Gnosticism: the idea that man is somehow evolving, learning, and becoming enlightened until they reach some spiritual plateau. Angels or "astral beings" (aka spiritual guides) are also lifted up.
I believe that "Christian Science" also elevates "knowledge" more than truth.

5 *Only* symbolic? 1 Cor 10:16 Gail60 6679
Yes, I agree with you. Communion does affect our walk with Christ because it is a physical and visual reminder of all that Christ has done for us. It is a time to reflect on our lives and face any sin that may be standing between us and the Lord. It is also a time for praise, rejoicing, and fellowship with our brethren.

On the other hand, symbolism, does not have to make it a dead ritual. It is what the bread and cup stand for that bring life and significance to this observance. It is the "remembrance" not the actual objects that is important.
6 Did it really matter? Ex 39:26 Gail60 6614
I'm not to sure about the pomegranite, but I know at least one purpose for the bells. Once a year the high priest went into the Holy of Holies to sprinkle blood on the mercy seat. If for any reason the priest was unclean, or did something wrong during his routine he would die. Since no one else was allowed to enter the room they had to be able to tell if something went wrong and have some way of retrieving the dead priest.

As long as the priest was moving around and doing his duties the bells on his garment would make noise. If the noise stopped for any length of time it would be assumed the priest was dead. His body would be pulled out by a rope that was tied to the priests ankle before he entered.
7 purpose and origin of the Church Luke 24:45 Gail60 6612
The purpose of the church is to evangelize, baptize, and teach God's Word. (Mathew 28:16 -20) Jesus gave this great commission to his disciples just before he left earth to ascend into heaven.

Luke 24:45-49 repeats this great commission but adds that the disciples must wait for the "power on high". This power was the Holy spirit which Jesus sent on the day of Pentecost as described in the first chapter of Acts. That was the origin of the church.
8 How is comunion only symbolic? 1 Cor 10:16 Gail60 6592
I think that if you read this verse in context you will understand that it is indeed symbolic. By observing the Lord's supper, all christians everywhere are remembering and honoring the Lord for his sacrifice for us. In essence, this sharing of the bread and cup identify us with Christ.

In like manner the Israelites in the desert ate the same bread, and drank the same water which came from the rock, and this symbolized their unity as God's people. Surely you do not believe that the Rock from which the water flowed was literally Jesus Christ

1 Cor 10:3 and all ate the same spiritual food;
1 Cor 10:4 and all drank the same spiritual
drink, for they were drinking from a spiritual
rock which followed them; and the rock was
Christ.

And when people partook of the sacrifices from the altar it symbolized their obedience and relationship to God. They did not literally eat the altar.

1 Cor 10:18 Look at the nation Israel; are not
those who eat the sacrifices sharers in the
altar?

The purpose of this passage is not to teach about the observance of the Lord's supper. The main point of this passage is to flee from idolatry. To not purposely partake of meats sacrificed to idols. If we do, then we are partaking of demons. Not literally, but symbolically identifying with demons.

1 Cor 10:19 What do I mean then? That a thing
sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an
idol is anything?
1 Cor 10:20 No, but I say that the things which
the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to
demons and not to God; and I do not want you to
become sharers in demons.
1 Cor 10:21 You cannot drink the cup of the
Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake
of the table of the Lord and the table of
demons.
9 explain come unto mount si'on Hebrews Gail60 6522
These verses are contrasting the old covenant, namely the old testament law given to Israel (vs. 18-21) and the new covenant, namely the spirits of righteous men made perfect by Jesus, the mediator of the new covenant, through the sprinkling of his blood(vs. 22-24)

The old covenant was physical and earthly, the new covenant is spiritual and heavenly. Mt. Zion is just another name for heaven as is the heavenly Jerusalem, and the city of our God. This city will one day descend onto a new earth as prophesied in Revelation 21.

10 Women's hair length and 1 Corinthians 11 Amos 1:1 Gail60 6521
I believe that this discourse by Paul should be taken as a matter of principle, not practice. Specific regulations about hair lenght for women or men is more a matter of culture. But the principle of authority and submission is applicable to all generations.

In Paul's culture, a woman with short hair signified outright rebellion. Also long hair on a man was considered shameful. During the 60's young men grew long hair as a symbol of their rebellion and thus it became identified with that lifestyle. Also later on short hair for women became a symbol of power and rebellion during the woman's movement. However, in today's culture it is not necessarily so.

Paul looked at the length of both women and men's hair as a symbol of their attitude or spirit towards submission to God, and fulfilling their roles. The order of Christ as the head, with the husband under him, and the wife under her husband is the real issue here. That principle is discussed extensively in other passages of scripture as well.

I believe that this order of submission is very important not only from an earthly point of view but also from a heavenly stand point. This is why Paul states that a woman should be in submission to her husband (exemplified by the length of her hair in Paul's culture) because of, or as an example to, the angels.
11 1st prophesy: Babylon invades Jerusalem? Amos 1:1 Gail60 6518
I believe that there is a reference to Babylon's invasion and subsequent exile as far back as Deuteronomy, where Moses lists the blessing and curses. Specifically at the end of chapter 28:

49The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from the ends of the earth, like an eagle swooping down, a nation whose language you will not understand, 50a fierce-looking nation without respect for the old or pity for the young. 51They will devour the young of your livestock and the crops of your land until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine or oil, nor any calves of your herds or lambs of your flocks until you are ruined. 52They will lay siege to all the cities throughout your land until the high fortified walls in which you trust fall down. They will besiege all the cities throughout the land the LORD your God is giving you..........................
62You who were as numerous as the stars in the sky will be left but few in number, because you did not obey the LORD your God. 63Just as it pleased the LORD to make you prosper and increase in number, so it will please him to ruin and destroy you. You will be uprooted from the land you are entering to possess.
64Then the LORD will scatter you among all nations, from one end of the earth to the other. There you will worship other gods—gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known.
