1 | Should we be dishonest to make friends? | Luke 16:9 | Conan111 | 3639
What is meant by "...[making] friends for yourselves by means of the mammon of unrighteousness," and why is this critical to our being received into the eternal dwellings?

4 | Do you have to be baptized to be saved? | Rom 6:3 | Conan111 | 2383
Well, cjjeep, the way that I see 1 Peter 3:21 is that it is affirming exactly the opposite. By "baptism now saves you," I believe that is clarifies itself by stating "not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God...through the resurrection of Christ." It is separating here the physical baptism, that which cleans the flesh, from the spiritual baptism, which takes place upon our "appeal to God." As for Romans 6:3, there is nothing there that speaks specifically of water baptism. The remainder of the passage retains the spiritual, not physical, analogy. Verse four certainly does not allude to our physical burial with Him. Our spiritual burial with him is a part of our spiritual baptism. |

5 | Can man refuse God's invitation? | Luke 14:16 | Conan111 | 2287
Well, I know that this is an incredibly divisive and controversial subject and that we may never know for sure about this until we get to Heaven, but I will share my point of view anyway. I think that this is not unlike the wedding feast discussed in Matthew 22:1-14. This passage borrows many phrases from the passage in Luke (going to the highway, etc). One big difference in this passage, however, is the closing verse. Matt. 22:14, "For many are called, but few are chosen," I think, shows very clearly the intent of the verse. This passage, as I see it of course, Christ provides validation Romans 9. It is clear (to me) that the slaves gathered those who were chosen and that those who were not chosed were not wearing "wedding clothes" and were thrown into that place of weeping and knashing of teeth. I would love to hear some feedback-either on here or on email. |
