3 Is this speaking of Christ or believers? John 1:13 Brian#9 188341
  George sir;

Verse 13 speaks of the sonship of verse 12.
Jamieson, Fausset and Brown say it better than I can.
Which were born, [egenneetheesan ]. Observe this word "born," or begotten. It was not a name only, a dignity only, which Christ conferred on them: it was a new birth, it was a change of nature-the soul being made conscious, in virtue of it, of the vital capacities, perceptions, and emotions a 'child of God' to which before it was a total stranger.
But now for the Source and Author of that new birth- both negatively and positively.

Not of blood- not of 'superior human descent' as we judge the meaning to be,

Nor of the will of the flesh- not of 'human generation' at all,

Nor of the will of man- not of man in any ways in which his will brings anything about. By this elaborate, three-fold denial of human and earthly source of this sonship, how emphatic dose the following declaration of its real source become!

But of God. A sonship strictly divine then, in its source this was which Christ conferred on as many as received Him. Right royal gift which whoever confers must be absolutely divine. For who would not worship Him who can bring him into the family and evoke within him the life, of the children of God? Now comes the great climax, to introduce and raise us to the altitude of which the foregoing thirteen verses were penned.

Barnes Notes brings out 6 points;
1] that if man are saved they must be born again.
2] that their salvation is not the result of their birth,or of any honorable or pious parentage.
3] that the children of the rich and the noble, as well as of the poor, must be born of God if they will be saved.
4] that the children of pious parents must be born again; or they cannot be saved. None will go to heaven simply because their "parents" are Christians.
5] that this work is the work of God, and "no man" can do it for us.
6] that we should forsake all human dependence, cast off all confidence in the flesh, and go at once to the throne of Grace, and beseech of God to adopt us into His family and save our souls from death.

5 Job 1:6, Is Satan also a son of God? Job 1:6 Brian#9 185737
  Good morning Aminat,
As you have NASB here how about;

Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. ESV

The angels are call the 'sons of God' due to their 'relationship' to God the Father in this verse. As Satan once was but at this time is not. This is the reason even thou he is among them. He is separate from them in the verse.
You might also take a look at John 6:70
May the Lord Bless your study,
Brian

7 Source of "Sin begets sin" James 1:13 Brian#9 182419
  Evening Bulldog2k,
I found "sin begets sin" used by A. Fuller in my electronic copy of Bible Illustrator O.T.

Searcher gave the example in 2 Sam. 11 of David and Bathsheba.

The same principle is brought out in
2 Tim. 3:13
But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

As Machaira said, an extra-Biblical saying that is used to explain a attribute of sin.

I hope this has helped you.

11 holy spirit-jacobs ladder dream Gen 28:10 Brian#9 181292
  Hello Biblelover756,
I am a little confused by your question.But may this be of some help.

Gensis 28:13 (from Jamison, Fausset, and Brown Commentary)

I am the Lord God of Abraham,...The Divine Person who appeared repeatedly to the patriarchs expressly called himself the Lord[Yahweh] on two occaions only-namely, once in His earlier communications with Abraham (Gen.15:7), and afterward on this occasion before us, which was apparently the commencement of his miraculous conversation with Jacob. Having shown to these patriarchs that He possessed a rightful claim to the name Yahweh, He in subsequent appearances to them assumed the name El Shaddai (God Almighty);while the name Yahweh was often applied both in his manifestations(Gen. 18:19, 22:19) and in their ordinary conversation (Gen. 24:3,7; 49:18) to the great and glorious Being of whom He was the Angel or Messenger.

Thus, the names Yahweh and El Shaddai appear to have had in the patriarchal age that degree of distinct application which the names Lord and God had in the language of the apostles (1 Cor.8:6). The patriarch's usual name for the First Person (the Revealer) was the Lord (Yahweh): for the Second, El Shaddai (God Almighty) (Kidd 'On the Divine Names')

Did the Lord(Yahweh) have an influence on Jacob? Yes, Jacob's actions (Gen. 28:17-22) brings this out

12 heb 1:7 quote of ps 104:4 Ps 104:4 Brian#9 179778
  God's day Grace,

A quote from Keil and Delitzsch Commentary on the Old Testament may help.

"It may with equal right at least be interpreted:
Who makes His messengers out of the winds,His servants out of the flaming or consuming fire. And this may affrim either that God makes use of wind and fire for special missions, or that He gives wind and fire to His angels for the purpose of His operations in the world which are effected through their agency, as the materials of their outward manifestation, and as it were of their self-embodiment,"

20 No worries, just god Matt 6:34 Brian#9 176424
  Jason, Brian here. I can only tell you what works for me. I do not do it by my abilities. I keep "self" out of the picture. ME, MYSELF, AND I is not my focus. CHRIST is and what HE wants. HE is LORD and as LORD, HE deserves all of my focus. Reading and studying the WORD hours every day. Not only helps me stay focused on HIM. It increases my faith,gives me peace that I do not understand.Gives me the right verses when I need them. Useing 1 John 1:9 and 1 John 1:7b all day long to enable me to have a one to one relationship with the FATHER through CHRIST. Praying HIS WORD back to HIM has been blessing me, again beyond my understanding. The use of that verse and a half enables GOD the HOLY SPIRIT to do the teaching when studying the WORD. As Jabez prayed, 1/4 of his prayer, keep evil away from me. Remember the sparrows and the lilies, are you not worth more? May this help, the key is to keep yourself in a one to one relationship with CHRIST. Sinless so GOD can hear you.
Brian#9,
