1 | Believe verb form, tense and mood | Acts 16:31 | zach† | 37038
In the familar story of the Phillipian jailer. The jailer asks: " Acts 16:30 "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" At which point they said to him: 31 "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." The question I have concerning these verses is this: in verse 31 what form, tense, and mood is the verb "believe" in as found here? Secondly the phrase from verse 31 "thou shalt be saved" Is that in present, as well as future tense, or does that refer to the endurance of one who has believed? 2 | Samuel or Saul? | OT general | zach† | 36600
In 1 Sam. 15:35 it says; And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; nevertheless, Samuel mourned for Saul. Is this verse saying that Saul died before Samuel? From reading 1 Sam. 28:7-19 I am led to believe that Samuel died before Saul, not after. So who died before who? Grace be multiplied unto thee zach† |

5 | tribulation vs. wrath | NT general Archive 1 | zach† | 35310
I have heard it said that the difference between tribulation and the wrath of God is: Tribulation is Satan's wrath The wrath of God is God's anger which will come upon the ungodly. Anyone care to comment? Here is a few verses with the words "tribulation" and "wrath" Mt 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. Rev. 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 1Thess. 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. 1Thess. 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Rev. 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand? Rev. 16:1 And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth. In Christ zach_† |

6 | Does faith require maintenance? | NT general Archive 1 | zach† | 34886
Please excuse my ignorance in asking so many questions But I feel compelled to ask this one also to see what imput this forum can provide me with. So please bear with me once again. Fenelon I believe is attributed with the quote: "Let go, and let God" But in 2 Tim. 4:7 it didn't appear to be Paul's philosophy of the day when he stated: 2Tim. 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: In this I see 3 "I haves" of Paul, he said: 1) I HAVE fought the good fight. I also cross reference this with the following verse: 1Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. I think Paul was saying we have been enlisted as soliders in the army of Christ, theres a real battle thats being waged. Do we have to take up the armor and get dressed for battle, or does God dress us? Do we follow Him into battle? 2) I HAVE finished my course -- here is the second I have of Paul from this verse 3) I HAVE kept the faith. I know that believers are kept by the power of God through faith. (1 Pet. 1:5) So do these kept verses contradict each other? Does faith require maintenance on the part of those who have it? 7 | Do not quench the Spirit | 1 Thess 5:19 | zach† | 34875
What exactly does it mean in 1 Thess. 5:19 when it says: "Do not quench the Spirit" I find the following from Strongs concerning the word "quench" 4570 sbennumi (sben-noo-mee) a prolonged form of an apparently primary verb; TDNT - 7:165,1009; AV - quench 7, go out 1; 8 v 1) to extinguish, quench 1a) of fire or things on fire 1a1) to be quenched, to go out 1b) metaph. to quench, to suppress, stifle 1b1) of divine influence So from this definition of "quench" what can we conclude that this "quenching of the Spirit" actually means? 8 | Rev 3:16 lukewarm | Rev 3:16 | zach† | 34763
In Rev. 3:16 does "lukewarm' mean complacency? Could it be speaking about someone, or some church who is cooling down spiritually? Could it be referring to a person, or church who was once on fire for the Lord, but is not any longer hot, but lukewarm and in danger of becoming cold? Or could it be referring to someone or some church, who began in the faith, but is no longer progressing and who are not experiencing an increase in the spiritual climate or temperature within the body of believers? Or _______________ you fill in the blank In Christ zach† |

9 | Is sanctification a joint effort? | Bible general Archive 1 | zach† | 34634
Concerning the topic of sanctification I want to ask; 1) Is sanctification complete in the believer? 2) What is the difference between positional and progressive sanctification? 3) Is sanctification entirely a work of God, or does the believer have to co-operate in the sanctification process? 4) Is sanctification ever complete in this life within any individual? 5)Are the Bibical commands which call us to holiness and perfection, commands to the individual which involve joint effort on the part of God and the believer? I know thats a mouthful, but hopefully I can receive some excellent feedback from this forum on this topic In Christ zach† |

10 | Mt. 27 Dead men walking | Matthew | zach† | 34614
Here is something that has puzzled me for some time now and i hope someone can provide some good answer for what I am about to ask.I will use the NASB text. (just after Christ yielded up His spirit (Mt. 27:50) Mat. 27:51-53 says: "the earth shook; and the rocks were split, and the tombs were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep (meaning they died) were raised; and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered and appeared to many. Now my question is this: With such an unusual event such as this happening in Jerusalem, wouldn't you suppose more would have been written about this? I mean here were many bodies of dead saints raised to life and they entered Jerusalem and appeared to many. I can vididly imagine if that were to happen today, CNN, FOX and CNBC would be there with live coverage So why don't we find more written on this. Or has any one come across any historical writtings that might have mentioned this event? In Christ zach† |

11 | Tribulation before rapture? | Matthew | zach† | 34612
In Matthew 24:29 NASB it says: "But immediately after the tribulation" (then it goes on to say what will happen after the tribulation. Here is a list of what according to scripture will happen according to Matthew 24:29-31 NASB 1) The sun will be darkened 2) The moon will not give its light 3) The Stars will fall from the sky 4) the powers of heaven will be shaken 5) the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky 6) all the tribes of the earth will mourn 7) they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory 8) He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet 9) they will gather together His elect from the four winds. All Scripture from NASB Question: I hear so much talk about a pre-tribulation rapture. But if this scripture is correct as I must believe it is, then isn't the rapture in this text placed after the tribulation? In Christ zach† |

13 | thou hast left thy first love | NT general Archive 1 | zach† | 34575
What does Rev. 2:4 mean when it says: "thou hast left thy first love"? Secondly can this verse be cross referenced with 1 Tim. 5:12 which says; "they have cast off their first faith"? What does this mean? Are these verses intended for a certain group of people, or are they written also for our learning, admonition and warning? Rom. 15:4 and 1 Cor. 10:11 In Christ zach† |

14 | Is Limited Atonement Bibical? | NT general Archive 1 | zach† | 34392
Before I ask my question, I would first like to provide you with some personal back-ground information concerning myself. When I first received Christ into my heart and life, God instilled within me a hunger and a thirst to read His written word. I just couldn't get enough of it. I began attending a Reformed church, and adopted all their beliefs as my beliefs. I read Calvin, and others of the reformed faith, and was in unity with their thinking. But the more I read God's word and allowed God's Holy Spirit to teach me from His word, the harder and harder it became for me to any longer accept the teachings of Calvinism represented within TULIP. Today I especially have trouble accepting the "L" of TULIP which stands for "Limited Atonement" So my question is: Do you personally believe "Limited Atonement is Bibical, or not? And why not. What Scripture do you use to support your beliefs. I know this is a highly and hotly debated topic, but I think it is one that with some discipline on our part, can be fairly discussed In Christ zach† |

15 | fall upward? | 1 Tim 4:1 | zach† | 33281
Thank you Robert: But if I believe all Scripture is inspired by God, then I must take 1 Tim. 4:1 for what it is worth. When Scripture says in 1 Tim. 4:1 that in the latter times some shall fall away from the faith, it does not say here that some false professors will fall away. It simply says some will depart (leave) the faith. Again I ask; how can one fall from a height which he never attained. Can I fall from a ladder without first being on the ladder? I cannot fall from a ladder I merely profess to be on. I must actually be on the ladder before I can fall from the ladder. I cannot fall upward. I must believe scripture, that there will be those who depart from the faith, and if even one could depart from the faith then others could also.
16 | in Him | Rom 11:22 | zach† | 33279
Curt thank you for taking time to answer this as i am yet trying to collect my thoughts on this. However the one thing I notice in John 15:2 is that there are 2 types of branches, but I see that even the branch that does not bear fruit is said to be "in Me" meaning in Christ. And to be in Christ is to be his. Also see 2 Cor. 5:17 where it states: 'if any man be IN CHRIST he is a new creature." I think the "in Him" of John 15:2 is never looked at or taken into account. Do you have any other thoughts concerning this touchy topic? zach |

18 | Some will depart from the faith | 1 Tim 4:1 | zach† | 33238
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith 1 Tim. 4:1 Question: 1. If I read this verse correctly then it must be possible to fall away from the faith. The KJV phrases it this way. 1Ti 4:1 ¶ Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, So in the NASB it says fall away from the faith and in the KJV it says "depart from the faith. Question 2. How can a person not in the faith depart from the faith? Don't you have to be in the faith before you can depart from it? For example: I desire to depart from Chicago airport. Don't I first have to be in Chicago, before I can depart from Chicago? 1 Tim. 4:1 does not say some might depart from the faith, rather it says: "some will depart from the faith." Does this mean some will depart from the faith, there once held profession, and possession and become apostates, and lose their salvation? |
