661 | The possible hindrance agsinst being use | 2 Cor 8:12 | skccab | 194418
Hi Brad, Gye, I think maybe I might be able to help here. If I"m wrong Miller, sorry for poking my nose in :-). Many years ago I received about the same kind of teaching. The terms were different: instead of Miller's "filled with" and "immersion in," I was taught the difference between the "indwelling" of the Spirit (at salvation) and an "infilling." You guys are absolutely 100percent right. It is all the same, G-d gave us everything we need all at once and forever. I think maybe a distinction is being made between the ordinary daily walk in the Spirit and the times when the Spirit is really heavy (such as in corporate praise and worship, or when we're telling someone about Yeshua). At one time I thought it was a "different" infilling of the same Spirit. At that time I was under Pentecostal/Charismatic teachings. I won't say that they actually taught it that way, it's just the way I understood the teachings. I believe now, it's more of a stirring up of the very Spirit that is always there. Most of the time He's doing His work very quietly, but sometimes you can "feel" the Spirit so strongly, it's easy to think that it's a "new" infilling or indwelling. Am I making any sense, or just making matters worse? Shalom Cheri |

662 | does God still send prophets? | 2 Cor 11:13 | skccab | 214513
Cowboy, What credentials do you possess that affords you the right and ability to ascertain BradK's witness as being false??? BradK is one, among many here on SBF, that has no credentials to his name but the One Whom he preaches and teaches. If it's in the Scriptures, BradK speaks it, if it is not, you will not hear it from him. Brad, I couldn't be quiet on this one :o) Cheri |

Greetings Brad, Thanks for posting these "predictions." I can be pretty gullible, but even I would not fall for this guy's jokes!! I don't know how he sold himself to so many others, it's amazing!! He's laughable. Cheri |

Hi Mark I don't know if Hopalong had this verse in mind, but could it be the one from Acts 7:57 where after Stephen finsihed preaching it says they cried out in a loud voice and stopped their ears and ran upon him in one accord. I can't think of any others. blessings cheri |

668 | Mistaken View Or False Doctrine? | Eph 1:13 | skccab | 205293
Shalom, Yes, I noticed that I missed that part (I'm at work, which is a pretty good excuse for being scatter-brained, this time anyeay, lol). So, since you asked, it sounds like just mistaken views to me. I see false doctrines as usually being malicious for one reason or another and these just sound like mistakes because they don't deter from that which is necessary, nor do they line someone's pockets with believers hard earned money. Although, I'm not so sure about the tarrying at the altar one - that could really put a stumbling block in front of a fervent believer. It probably wouldn't be for malicious purposes but it could still prove to be disastrous, in more ways than one! (I was one of those that got told that some 30 years ago!) Again, just my opinion. 669 | Mistaken View Or False Doctrine? | Eph 1:13 | skccab | 205351
Hi Lionheart, and God's shalom to you! How very sweet of you to say that! Forgive me for taking so long to get back to you - been a very busy day. I agree with you, for sure. I think baptism got in the mix simply because people just seem to want to make what is so simple so very difficult and convoluted. Isn't it sad, that it is just human nature to want to earn something and not be beholden to anyone? How we could possibly think we could, in any way, earn what God so graciously FREELY gave us is beyond me, too! But, again, I don't think that it's of malicious intent, just misguided, misunderstanding of the Truth. Just teaching what they were taught by those who received the same teaching, etc. Cheri |

670 | ... | Eph 2:15 | skccab | 211201
Shalom BradK, The word used in Rom. 10:4 that was translated "end" is telios which means "goal." Goal is not necessarily an end of something. As you courted your wife, your "goal" was marriage. Did reaching that goal cause you to end your courtship, or did it just deepen your lifelong goal of courting your wife? To me, the path to reaching that goal is to do as God commands, and for the most part, as long as you put the Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might and Love your neighbor as yourself into visible action, then you'll pretty much fulfill all the rest of the Torah, with a few exceptions. Those exceptions are very easily fulfilled because I'm grateful my Father redeemed me from the grasp of sin and death and I love Him. Speaking the Truth in Love also :o) Cheri |

671 | ... | Eph 2:15 | skccab | 211241
Brad, That is my goal as well. One way to know Him is to obey Him. I can sit and read about Him and talk to the walls about how I love everyone OR I can get out there and do as He says. I only know: think or do. As difficult as it is for me now, I'm still a doer. So I guess you're right, we're approaching from different orientations. but the operative word is "approaching" :o) Cheri |

672 | How Far Are We To Be Tolerant? | Eph 4:2 | skccab | 206453
Shalom bowler, Just thought I'd tell you something a pastor shared with me once about other people's faults. He said: Many people will try to admonish you to overlook the fault. But that is not really an easy thing to do for a long period of time. I would suggest instead of overlooking, you look over that person. And as you look over that person, you'll see the hand of God on that person's head, covering him, protecting him, loving him. And if that person's little faults are not a problem to the Almighty, then just who are we to be so picky? I've never forgotten that. And I spend an awful lot of time looking over people!! :-) Cheri |

No, CDBJ, you haven't messed my head up (someone else gets that credit hahaha). I thought I'd followed that thread back to the beginning, guess I didn't. Thanks for your reply though. Right now I don't have a home church, searching, and I just found this forum a day or so ago, so for now I guess this is the substitute for the personal interaction that I'm missing. I am enjoying it greatly, your name, among some others especially. Thank you. |

675 | Are there any true prophets/prophetss' t | Eph 4:11 | skccab | 194488
Brad, May I interject a question here? The prophets of old had the Torah (as opposed to our canon that you speak of), but there were still prophets. They also had the much of the Prophets on scrolls and what they called the Writings, didn't they (I may be wrong here)? But they still had the prophets. So why would our having the printed Scriptures as they are today have anything to do with whether or not we still have prophets. Wouldn't the man/woman who goes into areas that don't have the Bible readily available be seen as prophets - speaking forth the Word of God? Shalom Cheri |

677 | Are there any true prophets/prophetss' t | Eph 4:11 | skccab | 194503
Shabbat Shalom Chuck, I'm well aware there are false prophets around, have sat under a few of them before many years ago :-). What I'm wondering, along with some others, is just because we now have the Book in printed form, does that in itself negate the need for prophets? Were there not prophets at the time when the Tanakh was available? Would you not say that someone like Billy Graham stood in the office of Prophet for he was sent to those needing salvation, he spoke forth the words of God to those who had not known? I know we think of him particularly as an evangelist but many of those 5 ministries overlap each other don't they? Cheri |
||||||
678 | Would Jesus be considered a prophet? | Eph 4:11 | skccab | 194654
Hi Steve, I gotta put my 5cents worth in here now. My understanding of the ministries of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, Teacher is that they overlap to the teacher. The Apostle would/could stand in all offices, the Prophet would/could stand and operate in the offices of Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher, and so on. The only office being singular would be that of Teacher. (Just because someone can teach does not mean they are capable of pastoring, but a pastor certainly has the capacity to teach. And the pastor of the 100 member corner church is not called to evangelize a crowd of 50,000; but the evangelist is quite capable to pastor that same corner church, etc.) So it shouldn't matter whether John was "classified" as a prophet - he was an Apostle and had the ability and calling to act in any of the other offices as was deemed necessary at any given point in time. Or am I wrong? Cheri P.S. Before you ask, I don't know of any Apostles for 2007, nor for 1907, nor 1807. That doesn't mean that they are none, I just don't know them :-). |

Brad, I'm nowhere near being able to look up Greek or Hebrew words, but what would that verse be in Hebrew? It may have been written in Greek, but it was written by a Jew who was steeped in Hebrew and Jewish idions. Would looking into that verse with a Hebrew lean maybe give an idea as to what the "perfect" is? Still simply just reciting the aleph-bet and stumbling something awful with the words :-) Cheri |

680 | How important is growth? | Eph 4:12 | skccab | 202100
Shalom y'all, I'd just like to Amen! Brad's observation. And I would like to add something my own pastor said once, and I've never forgotten the analogy: He said that he's our earthly shepherd and shepherds don't give birth to lambs. Lambs beget lambs. He's there to feed and nourish us that we may have strength to go through the birthing processes. So many times you see someone right on the verge of giving "birth" to a new believer, and what do they do? They haul that almost birthed lamb to their church expecting their "shepherd" to finish the process!! As Brad stated, car-washes, bake or garage sales are not bible studies but things like those are very good places to bring "almost persuaded" folks. I know of a few churches that even have a day set aside 2-4 times a month for stay-at-home moms (and Mr. Moms!!) to get together for fellowship at their local mall while their kids are looked after at the church - another great place to take "almost believers." The church service should not be for entertainment but for equipping the saints to go out and do what the Lord told us to do! Mt. 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..." Just my 2cents worth :-) Cheri |
