101 | Sell what you have-give alms | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 212302
Flyman, You have been given numerous answers and commentary on this verse. And every last one of them is correct. I feel absolutely no condemnation that I have a car, a computer, internet, clothing and food enough. I rarely have extra but when I do, I find a way to bless someone with that extra. That's how I read that command. Under the Law of Liberty that you have in your Master you are perfectly free to sell all that you have and God be with you. Once you have given all away and have no more to give, please let me know how you are doing. I lived that way when I was very young and survived, but I was NOT a blessing to anyone when I had nothing to offer but needs of my own. Yes, God provided during my ignorance, but at the expense of others who sure could have put what they gave to me to much better use. It could have gone to people who truly had nothing and had no way to get what they needed, when I was perfectly capable of working for my living. I am NOT proud of those days at all!! I praise my God that He saw fit to keep me alive long enough for me to realize my foolishness. For I wasn't following Him, I was too busy trying to find food, shelter, clothing, etc., just daily surviving. Maybe it was to admonish you that today in 2008 you cannot physically follow Him and sit and listen to Him teach - that is what He was saying to those in the gospels, who could do that. (I sometimes envy them!!!) And the part about hating family and such, stands true today in that when it comes to who is FIRST and FOREMOST it is to be Him, and not mother, father, wife, husband, child, or anything else. As an example, right now in my apartment building there is a big secular party with a live band going on, but I observe the Sabbath. There is nothing wrong in a secular party, I'd have gone last night, but I do nothing during this 24-hour period that has anything to do with anything other than study, prayer, worship, reading, writing about or talkiing about Jesus, my Master (though in the freedom that we have in Jesus, I could be downstairs right now if I wanted to go). I choose to put Him first over a fun party and I'm having a wonderful night, I've got my praise music on, Bible open, and talking to you about the God of heaven and earth. I'm not missing anything at all!! (I hope I don't sound like I'm boasting because I'm not, I'm simply trying to give you a very viable example of "hating" anything that might take your mind off putting Him first. I worship Him all the other days of the week as well, but I treat the Sabbath as a little dress rehearsal of the world to come where it will be HIM 24/7 and I love it and I can't wait for the real thing!) Maybe since you can't seem to find the answer you want, you should take the advice another responder gave you, and quit looking at the tree and view the forest for now. The tree will become self-explanatory soon enough. Meanwhile, be blessed. And as Kcabm14 told you, if God wants you to sell all you have, you would be doing it and not asking questions about it, you would just know that you know that you know that you are to do it. Shalom Cheri |

103 | Assuming this covenant was renewal of th | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 212586
Greetings Senicienta, I'm sorry Senicienta, I made an assumption that maybe I shouldn't have. Perhaps your Bible doesn't have them, but most Bibles have either center-column, end-of-verse, or bottom-of-page references that will send you to another place where a word is translated in the same manner, an idea is joined together, an act is performed or described or explained, etc. As a "for instance" my Bible has as a reference for Ruth 4:7, Deut. 25:7-10 where that act is instituted originally. (I just happen to be reading Ruth right now.) Sometimes the references are helpful in your search, sometimes not so much :o) Certainly, re-ask if first responses are not helpful!! Cheri |

105 | why so much space on tabernacle details? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 212655
Shalom Dashel, The Tabernacle that Moses saw was the one in heaven. God wanted it made on earth to the letter according to His direction. We mortals learn best by repetition. Also, the Tabernacle is extremely symbolic, everything to do with it, the utensils, the boards, hooks, colors, materials, all of it, points to Messiah. It will be a lot of fun for you to dive in, and learn all you can; but don't try to take it all in at once. Let us know what you find out!! Have fun Cheri |

106 | Who is the generation? | Bible general Archive 4 | skccab | 212966
Good afternoon, Kcabm, It is not in good form to just tell someone that they are wrong, and certainly not very humble. It is much more honorable to offer the possibility of error with backing scripture - and then to humbly offer a different interpretation, also with backing references. A really wonderful teacher must always be aware that he/she is NOT the final authority, and that he'she is certainly not incapable of being in error. (We have only one such Teacher in that category!) Shalom Cheri |

Doc, I have to kinda admit, I got really lost in Goldworthy (?). Can you re-state what he was trying to say? Sometimes, I need 1st grade talk :o) Cheri |

Shalom John, You're jumping in is just fine. I was just totally lost in that quote from the fellow. I couldn't see any correlation either but it sounded like I was suppose to see something.... Sometimes I'm just thick. Cheri |

Hiya Bro, I did re-read it. I think my problem is I just don't see any particular nation as posed in the original question being portrayed. And the quote just didn't seem to fit. As Peter once said about Paul, Doc can sometimes be hard to understand (so I guess we're both in pretty good company, Doc with Paul and his words, and me scratching my head with Peter, going "huh???") :o) And then later, it's "duh!!! Helloooo!!" Cheri |

Shalom Doc, I've already discussed this with John. I had trouble with the quote and the portrayal of any country in it. I got lost in it. As far as any assumptions, I go with Gen. 12:3 plus others that escape me at the moment. I believe that God views Israel and the nations. If we are born-again of Messiah then we, as individuals are viewed, individually, as part of Israel (and just as 10 righteous people could have saved Sodom, they can also save the nations in which they live today). But nationally, believing individuals may suffer along with those nations who rise up against Israel. I believe that Jer. 31:35-37 and 33:19-26 is still God's heart (concerning physical Israel and those who have spiritually joined themselves to Israel). He hasn't changed. I'm nowhere near as good at words as you are, Doc, so I hope I didn't mess this up too much.... :o) My main trouble, again, was the connection with the quote and the attempt to "see" any given country linked to it... Cheri |

Shalom Justme, That was a very interesting post. Thank you. I now use the NKJV, but everytime I have to go look up a scripture out of e-Sword, I have to use the KJV cos that's what is in my memory. I never can remember the other versions' rendering of passages... Yes, God truly has used the KJV. :o) Cheri |

Dear PO Box, The answer is in the Book. Read. Study. We, as Christians, cannot be a part of cheating, even if it's only the cheating of yourself the joy of learning. The mom in me will tell you the very same thing I told my younhg'un - an honest best-effort D is far better than a dishonest, unearned A. Cheri |

Shalom Vintage, You've made some valid points, for sure, but in what context? There are some who believe that it all took place in 70AD and we are now in the 1000yr reign??? Of course, I would beg to differ. (If we are in a reign of peace, I sure would hate to see what a period of discord is like! lol) I'm prety laid back on the end times speculation, it's enough to know that I have a part in it, somehow, somewhere, sometime. For the present, my part is to make the life and breath God has given me today count for somethng, that He shines through. If you get it figured out, let me know :o) Cheri |

Yes, I agree, Gill is very insightful. Also, here in these verses we not only have the first promise of Messiah, but we have the first foreshadowing of the work of the Cross - the blood of the innocent (the animals for their skins) covering the sins of the guilty. The Word is sooo marvelous!

I, too, was interested in reading more about this book, as well as the other writings you mentioned. Maybe I can save you the time and effort - they fall drastically short of what we Protestant Christians are used to (I say Protestant because many of them can be found in the Catholic Bible). The ones that I read a bit from took me back 30plus years to my days of Hermann Hess's Sidhatha and Kahil Gibran's The Prophet. Beautiful books but just stories. Stick to the Bible as we are blessed to have. It's enough. Thank you for listening. |

Hi Doc and John, Might I add Bill and Gloria Gaither's lovely words on God and His Church? "God has always had a people. Many a foolish conqueror has made the mistake of thinking that because he had driven the Church of Jesus Christ out of sight that he had stilled its voice and snuffed out its life, but God has always had a people. The powerful current of a rushing river is not diminished because it is forced to flow underground. The purest water is the stream that bursts crystal clear into the sunlight after it has forced its way through solid rock. There have been charlatans who, like Simon the magician, sought to barter on the open market that Power which cannot be bought or sold, but God has always had a people - men who could not be bought and women who were beyond purchase. Yes, God has always had a people. There have been times of affluence and properity when the Church's message has been nearly diluted into oblivion by those who sought to make it socially attractive, neatly organized, and financially profitable. It's been gold-plated, draped in purple, and encrusted with jewels. It's been misrepresented, ridiculed, lauded and scorned. These followers of Jesus Christ have been, according to the whim of the times, elevated as sacred leaders and martyred as heretics. Yet through it all there marches on this powerful Army of the meek - God's Chosen People who could not be bought, flattered, murdered or stilled! On through the ages they march - this Church, God's Church Triumphant - Alive and Well!" Thank God for those that went before us to pave the way and show us that indeed God still has a People! And no matter how watered down some churches (the organizational part, the buildings) try to make the Word, there will always be a People of God. I intend to be one of them, and in your responses to others, I know you are too. Blessings Cheri |

A continuation - If no one can give an answer for things so horrible, or help you understand - we can at least pray with you and for you that you may be strong. And we can let you know that not everyone who calls themselves Christian will hurt you. Most of us are what Jesus wants us to be - full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness (Gal. 5:22). Blessings (and there are blessings for you too dear, for Jesus loves you so much) Cheri |
