361 | Sanctification - set apart FOR God's us? | Acts | Rowdy | 118121
Well said and Amen! However, I would like to add a thought or two. We should remember James 1:2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does. This is also part of the sanctification process and I'm thinking this nation is approaching such a time and need of purification. It does seem that God might visit some discipline to us, His children as cited in Heb 12:4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, 6because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." 7Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? 8If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. 9Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! 10Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. 11No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. 12Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. 13"Make level paths for your feet," so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. God bless all those who study and obey God's Word. --Rowdy |

Re: "turn His back to His own Son" 33At the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. 34And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?"--which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" We know that God hates sin so why else would He have darkness come over the earth at such a time when His Son is fulfilling the Father's plan so perfectly? How do you explain this and the verse above? Re: little apprehensive about going to hell Lk 22:42"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." 43An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. 44And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground. And Matt 26:38. What else could be troubling Jesus so as to cause this much anxiety? What is your explanation? Re: devil's keeping Christ in Hell, I would refer you to my post no 118115. As you have already surmised, my previous post has much conjecture and conclusions but that is to be expected when a person asks Why. Would you mind telling me why this is such an alien concept to you and Hank and others that are so harsh in reading and criticizing my posts? I've explained this numerous times about the fact that many times the Bible does NOT give a clear cut and specific answer to every imaginable question so God does expect us to use our minds and conclude proper conclusions from the Spirit of His Word. I would sincerely appreciate your response. Thanks. Also maybe you can explain why no one wants to respond to my challenges from several weeks ago wherein I DO cite several scriptures? God bless. --Rowdy |

363 | How often must we die and be born again? | Acts 8:22 | Rowdy | 118116
I can only respond with scripture as follows: 1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. This seems pretty clear to me but basically it means as long as we established and accepted that initial gift of salvation as cited in Acts 2:38, then our biggest obstacle keeping us out of Heaven thereafter is our own human tendancy to keep sinning (either omission of good deeds or an ocassional slip and some sinful action). We must recognize this tendancy in ourselves hourly or at least daily and be constantly ready for Christ's return as depicted in the marriage feast parable with ten virgins. Your response? --Rowdy |

What make you think that Satan had anything to do with anything connected with the Holiness of God; in you statement, “it would be enough for the Devil to keep Him there forever.” The devil has nothing to do with the perfect plan of God and he has nothing to do with hell or the lake of fire other then the fact that he will suffer there like all the rest that don’t fear God! OK, you've answered one question but you didn't respond to the one about the Devil's tempting Jesus in the desert after Jesus was baptized. IF there was NOT even a slight chance during this exchange of Jesus' slipping and sinning, then what's the purpose of this story in our Bible? Further, what's the value of Heb 4:15 if what you say is true? It seems you have a difficult explanation to craft together. But I await your reply. God bless. --Rowdy |

Matt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Any serious Bible student recognizes the NT sub-divides into 2 different basic categories. The conversion of all unbelievers into christians and then their continued growth and maturity in a spiritual relationship with our Lord. A person could compare this to the process of gaining an education during the childhood phase of each human being, on through high school and/or college, and then move on to the next major phase of life, employment and a continued life of learning. The most important thing to our God is to get us in His family headed to His home in Heaven. He wants all to keep studying His Word, keep growing in faith and maturity in His love and the ways we show His love to our fellow man, just as His Son said upon His farewell to His beloved disciples. God bless. --Rowdy |

Matt 27:46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?" So how else would you explain Jesus' statement from the cross as cited above? I acknowledge your statement but what I DON'T see is your response to the original question about "Why did Jesus pray to have the cup pass from Him?" Let's see how you handle it. God bless. --Rowdy |

371 | What do you like about the church? | Eph 2:22 | Rowdy | 118074
I really do sincerely appreciate your opening and starting this thread of dialouge. I sense you feel that it was a failure but I think it was and is a great success. I think it helps to remember that God created all of us and He wants ALL of His creation to come home BUT he knows only a "remnant" will find the way. This concept is well established in the OT and is maintained throughout the gospel story and on into the NT with Jesus' story of the straight and narrow to Heaven and the broad way to Hell. What am I saying: I'm saying that out of all our Lord's creation, He already knows there's only going to be a small portion to make it to Heaven. If it was any other way like a majority of us made to Heaven, then it would be too much like our world instead of His world. Remember our ways are NOT like God's ways; our thoughts are NOT like God's thoughts. His foolishness is far better than our highest thoughts. Isaiah 55:8 and 1 Cor 2:20. So in any given scenario of wide discussion with the kind of variety of backgrounds as represented by this Forum, we can only expect to see a similar response as the Lord gets to His Word. You may have noticed that a few of my posts to this Forum have met with a similar spirit of negative feeling. But I (one of many I'm sure) want to encourage you to keep the faith and keep studying. You're in good company with all those persecuted in the past 4,000 years plus. God bless. --Rowdy |

I have to agree with the spirit of Kalos' difficulty. Your question is far too vauge to be discussed intelligently on this Forum. There's a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience represented by the Forum participants. So why don't you help us out and pinpoint the particular aspect of the church to which you're referring? I'll even say pretty please with sugar on top. Thanks and God bless. --Rowdy |

373 | A 2nd Human Error? | 2 Kin 8:26 | Rowdy | 117853
I see the contrast but don't think much about it. If this is the kind of slight discrepancies your friends/enemies are submitting to you, I don't think we have anything to worry about. Most probably, this too can be explained in the way different cultures handle their arithmetic and the many different translations the Bible has been through. My bottom line is: these kind of slight discrepancies is not going to shake my faith in God's Word, not even "one iota." God bless. --Rowdy |

You can get a little more balance on this subject by reading some of my posts by inserting these numbers in the Quick Search to the right of your screen. 117709, 117588, 117554 and 117549 I don't really understand this facination with the OT. A thorough study of the whole Bible clearly leaves the serious Bible student with the solid conclusion that the OT was most definitely applicable BEFORE the cross but now in this dispensation the NT with Christ's words and those of His Apostles are in charge. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

I think you must be looking for this passage: Ex 33:12 Moses said to the LORD , "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.' 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people." 14 The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." 15 Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" 17 And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name." 18 Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory." 19 And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD , in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." 21 Then the LORD said, "There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen." If this is not it, I don't know what else you could be referring to. God bless. --Rowdy |
