I have to agree with WTB, very well said. In this dispensation, we MUST have Jesus as the focus of our lives if we actually hope to go to heaven. God bless. --Rowdy
162 | Spirit/spirit?Is Spirit given or spirit? | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 122333
As I've mentioned before, I agree with you wholeheartedly when God's Word (our Bibles) refer to the Word, it should be capitalized as coming from the Godhead. As a matter fact, I've recently been trying to remember to capitalize almost Everything that is clearly coming from the Godhead. This is quite a ministry for you, isn't it? All I can say is Thank God for you and people like you to keep people like me on the straight and narrow OR at least somewhere close so I can find my way back. God bless. --Rowdy |

164 | references to church unity | Eph 4:3 | Rowdy | 122330
Although I would rejoice with you, dear friend about your growth, I must remind you that the Lord's second coming will happen when very, very few people will expect it. Both Jesus and Paul confirm this very clearly as follows: Matt 24:43 "But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 1 Thess 5:2 For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. If we do things the Bible way, that is follow the pattern God gave us in the NT, we can't help but grow. The simplicity of God's Word and the simplicity of the church is very attractive. The Lord knows that the world needs His Grace and Forgiveness. God bless. --Rowdy |

166 | speaking in tongues | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 122303
It's quite possible, speaking in tongues and other miraculous powers may have lasted throughout the lifetime of one who received the "laying on an Apostle's hands." But after the death of that last person, yes, we can be assured all miraculous powers as dispersed by humans ceased. I also think we can conclude as to why God didn't want this phase of Christianity to continue. In the books of 1 and 2 Corinthians, we see a tremendous amount of strife and jealosy, centered a lot around these miraculous powers. As long as there was a chance of some christians getting these powers and some others living their lives without them, there would continue to be this stressful and trying time. Our God and Father knows us so very well and He knew our human side would peek out in spite of these abilities. He really wants our faith to grow without this form of assistance from the Holy Spirit. Once again, I'm convinced the main purpose of these miraculous powers was to serve as a sign (an endorsement) from God that the Holy Spirit really was in favor of what these christians were saying and doing. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

167 | speaking in tongues | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 122302
If I may butt in, speaking in tongues is a rather difficult and complex subject which is another good reason to stick with the way our Bibles, God's Word handles this topic. Every single time, this ability is mentioned in the Bible, it is very clear that the message is from the Holy Spirit AND the message was clearly understood by the audience in spite of the speaker having never studied that language. As a matter of fact, Paul instructs the christians at Corinth thusly: 1 Cor 14:27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God. 29Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. Do you or anyone else on the Forum know of anyone on this earth that speaks in such a tongue recognizable as a common language in some country? For that is the standard we see in the Bible and we MUST "test the spirits" as commanded to keep false teachers from wrecking havoc in the Lord's church. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

I'm not quite certain of the position you're taking with this post. Do you have someone or do you know for a fact of someone who can perform miracles as I've described? It's a fairly straight forward question and easy to answer. I do hope you're not advocating sherking our duty and the Lord's command to "test the spirits" so as to keep false teachers at bay. God bless. --Rowdy |

How many witnesses certified this blind person to have been blind from birth? If you'll look carefully, you'll see a contrast between what Jesus refused to do and the failure of a miracle due to a lack of faith on the part of the recipient as is claimed by modern miracle workers. Please don't misunderstand. I'd be the last person in the world to deny that miracles are done. They're performed by God directly to the recipient as in the remission of cancer given up by doctors, etc. What I'm saying we must apply the same standard we see in our Bibles, thus the need for absolute proof. According to the Bible, there were two ways to get these powers: 1) directly from the Holy Spirit in Acts 2 and 10 and 2) laying on of the Apostles hands. So since we don't have anyone about 2000 years old, there's very little likelihood of human beings have such powers. But again, if there's anyone that supports such an idea, we at least should agree to use the Bible standard, correct? Again, we are going to "test the spirits" as commanded and do that testing with the only standard approved by God, correct? In my mind, there shouldn't be any disagreement, can there be?? God bless. --Rowdy |

170 | And your question is... | John 5:24 | Rowdy | 122245
I was trying to draw you and Hank out of your comfort zone and motivate you to think but alas I guess I must clarify. Notice I gave a hint: God is spiritual. It is my belief and the belief of a great many christians with whom I worship that God is a Spirit and we (the whole world) are physical, finite creatures with a very limited capacity for thinking of and ability to describe things that are spiritual. As you know already, this whole universe was created in an instant, complete and fully mature just like He created Adam and Eve complete and ready for a full life as humans. (At least, I hope you know and believe in that, just as it's described in the Bible.) Now from that, we can infer that the whole universe is dependent of the Perfect Will and Design of our Lord God Almighty. That is, when He gives the word, the whole universe will burn up and be destroyed just as quickly as He created it. So with nothing physical like oxygen or any other fuel, it's difficult to support the idea of the "fires of hell" or the "streets of gold" and all the other physical descriptions of Heaven and Hell. I believe that these descriptions are symbolic for the benefit of our physical and finite minds so we could conceive of those two ultimate destinations for our souls. You see, our soul is basically spiritual by nature and when this universe no longer exists, we'll all go to meet God at the Judgment Bar on that fateful day. So how can there be weeping and gnashing of teeth when we won't have any eyes or teeth? I tried to set the stage for this kind of open minded thinking with my "parable" of the ants but that didn't seem to have to end result I was looking for, at least with some few. So, this discussion all boils down to the basic question: Is Hell a literal, physical location where the disobedient to God will go? Or is a spiritual condition without the benefit of God's prescence which will make it a very miserable place indeed? This really shouldn't be such a difficult concept. After all, there is a large group of people that take a lot more symbolic language, mainly from Revelation and Elijah and come up with some pretty fantastic ideas like Premillinalism and the Rapture. Now, do you have some specific questions on this topic? I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of scriptures to add, other than those I've cited in the past. I await your reply. God bless. --Rowdy |

Thanks for the encouragement. It's a tough ministry but a productive one. Although I must admit I have looked back over most of my posts and have determined they comply with the requirements of the Forum about as good as most anybody else, including yours. In that regard I have to settle for being average, but occasionally I do need a good humbling. God bless. --Rowdy |

173 | Is Hell fire literal that burns forever? | Matt 13:40 | Rowdy | 122120
I thought I'd try to answer the question you pose. Remember in the following, Apostle Peter is writing to christians about christians: 2 Pet 2:21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A dog returns to his own vomit," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire." Rev 2:10 promises a crown to those who are faithful but what do you think goes to those who are unfaithful. This topic has been discussed at great lenth. It is probably one of the most controversial topics on the forum. Insert the words "Grace" or "Falling from Grace," and you'll get a multitude of posts and various opinions. But the important guidance in this area comes from God. What does He have to say about it? All I can do is quote from Paul 2 Cor 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And in Acts 20:28 Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood. 29For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. 31Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. So you see, it's not only possible christians can "fall from grace," it was predicted by the Holy Spirit that they would. Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

174 | If you see with God's eyes... | Matt 6:22 | Rowdy | 122110
This verse 22 is part of an introduction to Jesus' main point in this chapter which is Matt 6:31 "Do not worry then, saying, 'What will we eat?' or 'What will we drink?' or 'What will we wear for clothing?' 32 "For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Thus if we've got our priorities aligned with those of our God and Father, He will lead us and show us how to find this true light in His Son, the author of all life and happiness in this dispensation. I hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

175 | Is Hell fire literal that burns forever? | John 5:24 | Rowdy | 122109
You seem to have conveniently forgotten about another passage in Psalms. This is just an excerpt: Ps 22:3 Yet You are holy, O You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel. 4 In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You delivered them. 5 To You they cried out and were delivered; In You they trusted and were not disappointed. 6 But I am a worm and not a man, A reproach of men and despised by the people. It's not a totally new concept to see oneself as being humble to the creator of the universe but I'll readily admit it's no longer fashionable in this world. I do hope you're learning to read my posts with an open mind. But regardless, God bless. --Rowdy |

I just posted this same note to Hank. Take a look. Quoted from Paul, probably the wisest human this side of the cross. 1 Cor 1:18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent." 20Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. I could also quote the last few chapters of Job with all the unanswerable questions from God. I'd be interested in seeing your answers to that quiz. Care to try? If you'll consider my statement a little more carefully, maybe with an open mind, you may discover another meaning between "I don't really know for certain and I think...they really do exist." Hint: God is spiritual. Please re-consider these thoughts and get back to me. God bless. --Rowdy |

You seem to forget our God is timeless as He is without beginning and He is without ending. The designations we're discussing is for our benefit. God blessed these labels so that we as His children would know and recognize the truth in them. In this dispensation, Jesus is to receive ALL the preiminance and is to be the main focus of our worship. He is our mediator between us and our God as He and He alone is the High Priest. By the way, our ages don't really have any value in this discussion, but somehow, I gather you already knew that. Throughout the world for all time, past and future, there's always going to be those older and younger than one's self. The most important factor of aging is the rate and level of maturity in our Lord's relationship and our spiritual growth therein. Since you offer no scripture in support of your statement, I'll respond in kind and not insult you. I do, however, still pray that God blesses you with an open mind and that you keep on studying. --Rowdy |
