241 | Are you a true believer? | Rom 8:39 | Pastor Glenn | 68233
Exactly, The question was incomplete. The question is usually incomplete when we sin also: "I have sinned, so did I just loose my salvation?" The first question should be: 1. Was I saved to begin with? 2. If yes, then was I walking in the spirit or in the flesh? 3. If I was walking in the flesh, then I am carnal. So how do I get a closer walk with the Lord? Have I been filled with the Spirit? We must be willing to do whatever it takes to get free from the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life: Matthew 5 Adultery in the Heart 27 "You have heard that it was said to those of old,[3] "You shall not commit adultery.'[4] 28But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. Matthew 18:8"If your hand or foot causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life lame or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the everlasting fire. 9And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire. |

242 | The question exists in Paul's Theology | Rom 9:18 | Pastor Glenn | 138296
Hello Nwells, I wanted to respond to your two questions: 1. “My question is one of our view of how God has mercy and how God hardens people. …Can a fallen man (meaning a sinner, before regeneration) do anything to please God? If he can - what can he do?” There is another question that must be answered first because your question implies that faith comes only AFTER regeneration. Is this what you believe? Heb 11 5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, "and was not found, because God had taken him"; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. If we believe as I do that faith comes first, then Heb 11:6 answers your question. If not then we cannot agree on this question. 2. “Second, you said: "God has no need for us to perish (eternal damnation in Hell)" If God did not want people to go to hell, would anyone go to hell?” Another scripture answers this: 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Also: Eze 33 11 Say to them: "As I live,' says the Lord GOD, "I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why should you die, O house of Israel?' Matthew 25:41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: These scripture clearly answers your second question. God does NOT want people to go to hell, but many will. Remember also that Israel is God’s “Chosen” people, but all of them are not saved. Pastor Glenn |

244 | how to be saved | Rom 10:9 | Pastor Glenn | 74401
John, This is an excellent list of related verses, but how do you tie them in with John chapter 3? What comes first, being born again or accepting Jesus? Your explaination seems to be: being born again comes first by election after hearing the Gospel. Please don't be offended, but it seems that Jesus could have told Nicodemus "You must be elected" instead of "you must be born again". If Romans chapter 9 did not have to be reconciled with Romans 10:9 then I would just have to believe only election was being taught. I know you are probably tired of these subjects, but I am always pondering these things from scripture to scripture. The way I see it is that scripture is saying that: 1. the heart of man is desprately wicked, but he IS capable of making ONE choice in his heart and confessing Jesus with his mouth. 2. He is then born spiritually again by God through the Holy Ghost. 3. As long as he continually chooses to walk in the spirit, he does not walk "according to the course of this world", but he can still choose to walk in the flesh. I believe in election only in the sence that God knows who will accept Jesus by His foreknowledge. I do not wish to start something that will lead to bad feelings so if you choose not to discuss this I will understand. Joshua 24:15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." God bless, Pastor Glenn |

Want2BChrist_Like, As you may already know, there are many with struggles similar to yours. For me at one point in my life it was lust of my eyes (covetousness), at another it was lust of my flesh (sexual desire while unmarried), and yet another was the pride of life (I liked to appear to be better than others). The struggle is not sin; however, yielding to temptation is sin. I have overcome these struggles, but even after being born again they still come back: Romans 7 14For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. 15For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. Galatians 5 Walking in the Spirit 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[3] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21envy, murders,[4] drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24And those who are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another. More scriptures concerning temptation: Luke 22:46 Then He said to them, "Why do you sleep? Rise and pray, lest you enter into temptation." 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. 1 Timothy 6:9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. James 1:12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. 2 Peter 2:9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment, |

Schmythe, You asked: "you seem to say that the answer to everyhthing can be found if we look for it in the bible. I am curious in what verse does it say that the jews of this time wanted a king so they would not have to deal with God?" This can be found in 1 Samuel chapter 8. Also, 2 Tim 3 15and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. |

Schmythe, EdB simply gave an analysis of man's sinful nature versus God's perfection and holiness. Many scriptures taken together tell us how man shys away from God's light, due to their sinful nature. John 3 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God." Exodus 19 21 and the LORD said to him, "Go down and warn the people so they do not force their way through to see the LORD and many of them perish. 22 Even the priests, who approach the LORD , must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out against them." Exodus 20 18 When the people saw the thunder and lightning and heard the trumpet and saw the mountain in smoke, they trembled with fear. They stayed at a distance 19 and said to Moses, "Speak to us yourself and we will listen. But do not have God speak to us or we will die." |

There is nothing wrong with discussing things with others. However, godly council is best: 2 Cor 6 14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15What harmony is there between Christ and Belial[2] ? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people."[3] 17"Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you."[4] 18"I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty." |

Yes Ray, I go with the capital "Spirit who gives life". When it comes to the "meat", we do not get more spiritual by deeper intellectual discussion or intellectual growth. A baby might eat meat, but his body will not be able to digest it. We must always humble ourselves, pray and seek God's face to continue to grow spiritually. When it came down to intellectuallism, there was none greater than the Scribes and Pharisees. But this is what Jesus said of them: Mat 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Mat 13:12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Mat 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. Mat 13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: Mat 13:15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Mat 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. Jesus told the woman at the well: Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

Ray, You quote Matthew 13:15 and John 9:40 without any comments. You also said: "Pastor Glenn, may I suggest that you use a version that capitalizes Deity in your studies. I can go with "God is a Spirit" but I could not go on and says that we "must worship him in spirit and truth." If He is a Spirit, then acknowledge Him as such." I looked up these scriptures in 3 different versions. They all fail to capitalize spirit here. I see this as a discription of His spirit nature, as opposed to a physical nature. So I see no problem here. The KJV is what I used, it said "God is a Spirit...". However, when it says that we "must worship him in spirit and truth.", it refers to "our" spirit (lower case) nature. NASB: John 4:23 "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. John 4:24 "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." KJV: Joh 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. Joh 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. NIV: 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." 254 | How can anyone be saved? | 1 Cor 2:14 | Pastor Glenn | 61060
"...that God elects people conditional to their positive response to the gospel." God leaves us the choice: Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore CHOOSE life, that both thou and thy seed may live: Every man has enough "light" to make the right choice: Joh 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. We just need to believe in Christ: Joh 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Joh 1:13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. Joh 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Joh 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. Joh 12:33 This he said, signifying what death he should die. God has dealt every man the measure of faith needed for a fair choice: Rom 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. I believe that "election" is based on the fact that God knows who will make the right choice, since he sees the future. I think there is more scripture on this. God bless, Pastor Glenn |

John, You wrote: "...Without the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit applied to a man’s heart, no one would ever believe in Christ and repent. Genuine repentance is the fruit of a regenerate heart...." But it is posible to taste of the Holy Spirit and still turn back: Heb 6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. John, 1 Cor 2:14 DOES NOT APPLY to choosing Jesus Christ. This scripture, in context, refers to spiritual growth AFTER salvation. After salvation we still have a natural nature that wars against the flesh. He is saying for us (believers) to walk after (strive for) spiritual things. When we allow ourselves to indulge in drinking, cursing, lusting, or other carnality, we are walking after the flesh. God has separated the choice for Jesus. This is what it means by His being THE LIGHT. This is what the old testament types and shadows refer to. This is why there is only one way to salvation. Everyone knows. Everyone. We all have the spirit of life: Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. That spirit of life is what is refered to in John 1:9That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.[NKJV] Rom 8:29For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. "whom He foreknew, He also predestined " We are only predestined because God "foreknew" we would choose Christ. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

John, Here is a similar scripture: Gal 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Why tell a believer to walk after the Spirit. Wouldn't that be automatic for someone that is "Elect". It sounds like a command (with the choice to refuse or obey). You said: "You also said that: "We all have the spirit of life". Would you tell me what you mean by "all"? " All men (believers or not) have the spirit of life: Ecclesiastes 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. The point is that all men have the "light of life" to make a fair choice for Jesus: John 1:4In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. I must confess that I am just starting the "really" understand some of these scriptures myself. I pray that others will much more understand and expound. God Bless, Pastor Glenn |

John, You said:"But my strongest concern is your contention that all men have the spirit of life and therefore can believe. Paul uses the term once in Rom 8:2" For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death." But here it is a reference to The Holy Ghost. Your proof text is Ecclesiastes 12:7 "and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it." This is pretty thin evidence to build a new doctrine on, don't you think? ..." This is not a "new doctrine". I thought every Christian knew that without the spirit of life, the body dies: James 2:26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. "...What other texts do you have regarding "the spirit of life"? " John 1:4In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. Gen 2:7And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath (spirit, not air. God is a spirit, He does not breath air.) of life; and man became a living being. Genesis 7:22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit[7:22 Septuagint and Vulgate omit [of the spirit.] ] of life, all that was on the dry land, died. Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Ecclesiastes 3:21 Who knows the spirit of the sons of men, which goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, which goes down to the earth?[3:21 Septuagint, Syriac, Targum, and Vulgate read [Who knows whether the spirit ... goes upward, and whether ... goes downward to the earth?] ] James 2:26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. If the choice for Jesus is said to be "works", then this scripture applies: James 2:17Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your[4] works, and I will show you my faith by my[5] works. 19You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! 20But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[6] 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? 23And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness."[7] And he was called the friend of God. 24You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
