31 | Who was Pilate's wife? | Bible general Archive 2 | Norrie | 119631
There is a book called Pontius Pilate by Paul Maier that deals w/Pilate. He had references for all his chapters. It is basically an historical novel but he did a lot of research to get it right. Her name was something like Porcula, I don't have the book here. :) |

33 | Bib Ref on weapons of war today being OK | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 10082
I want to thank you all for your responses. I do believe in defending ourselves and believe that if someone is trying to do harm, we have the right then for self defense. I would imagine defending one's country would be in the same catagory as defending one's person or family. Then the commandment fabade murder which is not the same thing as accidental killing, killing in self defense, fighting in a war or executing criminals.

35 | Why no gender-neutral language in NASB? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 10110
Before feminism came in, man was considered the species, then it was male or female. That was back when you were a salesman, not a sales associate or a draftsman, not a draftsperson, etc. I thought it was silly getting so technical of that when it started and still do, I'm not very politically correct.

I think the problem is that you cannot take 100percent of what anybody says, you have to look thru for the good and reject the bad. Some people look for bad in everything. I know I used to listen exclusively to Ken Copeland for years, never heard him say anything wrong and I had many tapes, got his magazine, been to several believers conventions, then somebody showed me what CRI said he said. Well, if he said what CRI said he said, that was wrong, but I never heard him say anything like that and believe me, I listened! After that tho, I quit listening to him and everybody on TV, so I'm not getting fed near like I used to, sometimes I feel like I'm starving spiritually because I don't know who to trust anymore. Then I read this off of Kent Hovind's site: When I hear that someone is in disagreement with me I do what I think the Bible teaches one should do. I contact them directly if possible to try to sort it out. For example: After many people called me to say that Hank Hanegraaff, the "Bible answer man" of Christian Research Institute, www.equip.org, had made disparaging remarks about me on his national radio program, I called to try to speak with Hank to see what the problem was. I was not allowed to speak with Hank but his PR man talked with me for nearly an hour. Recently a friend of mine contacted CRI to see what their complains were. He got a letter back with the following complaints they have with my beliefs with my response in []: CRI writes: He [Dr. Hovind] Believes in: Bibles codes (to use the bible-encoded message to predict the future.) [This is silly! I defy anyone show anywhere where I have taught this.] The King James Version only is a Christian bible. [Also not true. I do use KJV and discuss problems with other versions, but many fine Christians use other versions. Someone using the very liberal RSV led me to Christ. I would rather see someone read any version instead of Playboy magazine.] Comes close to say that young earth as an acid test to see if you are a Christian or not. [This is ridiculous! Many fine Christians believe the earth is billions of years old. I don't think they have studied the subject well enough to see that putting death before sin creates a serious theological problem, but I have never said this was an acid test to be a Christian. Hank's PR man is a Hugh Ross follower so this may be the source of the problem. We have a series of videos with me debating Hugh Ross if you want more on this.] That the ucp bar code contains 666. [In my seminar I show that the guard bars used at the beginning, middle and end of the UPC codes is the exact same pattern used for the number 6. I don't know what the mark of the beast is or will be but it seems to me (and to many others) that the UPC code is indeed a part of the prophecy in Rev. 13 and 14.] Cont. |

Some people today are buying things by scanning their hands. [I have said in my seminar that I have had 3 people tell me they have seen this happen. I have never seen this nor claimed that I have.] Gospel in the stars (i.e. The gospel in the stars theory attempts to disconnect or redeem, the constellation and the stars from their pagan association to reveal their original meaning. [In response to a question asked of me after a seminar I present the information about the zodiac as one option. Many have suggested this in the past. Dr. D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Ministries has a great book on this topic. I do not know if there is anything to it or not, nor do I teach it dogmatically. It is an interesting field of research. That is all I think about it. If Hank disagrees that is fine but he does not need to accuse me of doing something wrong, or attempt to discredit my ministry, for even mentioning it. Good students of scripture can study various topics and decide for themselves without me or Hank telling them what they can or cannot study.] Pyramid methodology (that the great pyramid was built by divine inspiration, and its measurements and inner rooms can be used as a Prophetic time line, each inch representing the foretelling biblical events past and future. The great pyramid is called the bible in stone, revealing the divine plan of the ages. [In response to a question asked of me after a seminar I present the information about the pyramid as one option. Many fine Christians (and some cults) have suggested this in the past. I do not know, nor do I teach dogmatically, anything they accuse me of here.] Believes in the Bermuda triangle. [same answer as No.7] On web site, He practices not filing federal and state income taxes. [Read the answer on my web site for yourself. I love my country and believe everyone should obey the law and pay all taxes they owe. I file every form and pay every tax I am required to. If Hank is implying that I am breaking the law he should show me where I am wrong not give me a back handed slap like this.] Hank has spoken evil of me several times on his program, yet never once has he called me to verify the truth or given me a chance to defend myself. He owes me that much according to scripture. Hank has done much good for the cause of Christ and I wish him well but he has handled this situation improperly in my opinion. He needs to read the "E" in his own web site acrostic. "CRI is committed to the maxim; "In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, and in all things charity." The topics he blasts me for are not "essentials" nor is he right in his thinking about me. In Christ, Kent Hovind |

38 | Was Abraham a Muslim? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 10142
I'm not disputing that w/changing the Bible or any other book into different languages, that they may be misinterperted but as far as the OT goes, they had only that one language which I've read was meticiously copied, if one mistake was made, the whole scroll was thrown out. Then as far as the NT, people died because they believed what was written, esp. the letters. Grant Jefferies had an excellent book on this but I can't remember the exact name right now but he showed excellent evidence for the authenticity of the scriptures.

You sound like a very intelligent, calm person who rationalizes responses and is very peaceful and respectful. I have read many books lately and from what I read on newsreports and see on TV, Moslems seem to be and always have been very militant, are persecuting Christians and anyone who disagrees with them. How do you rationalize your ways against their ways? This is the same religion, right?
40 | What is your religious background? | Bible general Archive 1 | Norrie | 10162
Thank you. You didn't sound like an Arab Muslim. :) They seem to be more militant in their religion. You sound as tho you are just someone who has spent a lot of time questioning. Maybe you were in a church, Pentecostal or whatever, but were just embracing their beiefs accd to how they say they believe rather than having a personal relationship w/Jesus? I know I grew up Catholic but I had no idea who Jesus actually was. I knew all the church doctrines, etc, was a whiz at religion but had no idea about Jesus and salvation. I eventually went the other direction to where I didn't believe anything good about any religion, esp. about Christianity and the Bible, but eventually I did meet Jesus and that changed my life. There are many Christians who love Jesus but can't find a church they want to attend because of the doctrins or preconceived notions the various churches has, but these people read their Bibles and really love Jesus. I've been saved over 20 yrs but in the past 6-7 yrs, just joined a church because I just couldn't find one I was comfortable with. Just don't throw away learning about Jesus because of the various Christians you may have been exposed to that may or may not be wrong in their beliefs. It's always best to go the the source, the Bible, and find out what the Bible says, not what so n so says the Bible says, that's where many people make their mistake. Then I do agree that some of it is beyond my capacity to understand, so it is good to find a good church if you can where there are good Bible teachers who have studied the Word and can elaborate on things you can't understand, but always be open to the Holy Spirit because man is definately falible. :)
