Tongues is some sort of language manifestation by the Holy Spirit. In Acts it's when they preached in one language and people heard them in whatever language they spoke. Then there's the prayer language that you have no idea what you're saying, it's supposed to be a Heavenly language but I have heard of it being just another language from someplace else on globe too (such as I didn't know you spoke ancient Hrbrew or Swahaili). As you can imagine, I don't have it either. :) But there are Pentecostals and maybe a few other demon. who think that if you don't speak in tongues, you haven't been baptized in Holy Spirit. Then there are other who say that nonsensical babble is from the devil so...

365 | DOES THE BIBLE TALK ABOUT CHRISTMAS TREE | Judg 4:4 | Norrie | 24403
Part 2 But, do you ask, what means verse five, that "they can neither do good nor can they do evil"? Why this gift-laden tree celebrates one as a god, declared so in this same passage. And this verse tells us the one celebrated can do nothing, is but a dead man--a funny kind of a god wouldn't such an one be? "But,"--on the contrary,--"Jehovah God is the true God," showing this gift-tree is tied up to a false god. What further about him? "Thus shall ye say unto them,"--say to all Christmas observers,--"the gods that have NOT made the heavens and the earth, these shall perish from the earth, and from under the heavens." Verse 11. And in this same passage we hear God say observance of such honors to this god (simply Christmas, as shown by the Christmas Tree) is going to bring such "indignation" from Him that "the Nations" (plural) shall "not be able to abide His indignation"! 2. As to eating in connection with Christmas,-- which means Christmas candies, cake, pies, Christmas dinners,--the Scriptures are again very plain. Eating is a chief characteristic of the Yule season. Look now at Isaiah 65:11-12. "But ye that forsake Jehovah, that forget My holy mountain that PREPARE A TABLE for fortune, and that fill up mingled wine unto Destiny, I will destine you to the sword, and ye shall bow down to the slaughter; because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but ye did that which was evil in MINE eyes, and chose that wherein I delighted not!" "Fortune" is one of the literal names for this god as we have seen above (Cicero's Works, De Divitione, vol. 3, p. 77). The King-James (Authorized) version retains the words "Gad" and Meni." Gad is the perfect participle of the verb that means to assault, and is a name for Nimrod as the originator of war as the records of antiquity abundantly show him to have been; and Meni means the Numberer,--a name for the Moon which numbers the months. Just as the Babylonian messiah was worshipped as the star constellation of "Orion, the mighty hunter," so he was also deified as the "Lord Moon," or, "The Man in the Moon." Divinely destined to the Sword are all who partake of Christmas "eats" says Old Testament in Isaiah! What says New Testament? New Testament commands that we never drink or eat any thing in memory of Jesus Christ save the "Lord's Supper" which we are told is never candy, pies, cake or a meal, but is the bare ceremonial partaking of unleavened bread and a sipof the fruit of the vine. This, says New Testament, is the ONLY eating permissable in connection with remembering the Lord Jesus Christ! And yet, you are a "New Testament Christian," are you? Very well, then, if you really are,out go all Christmas candies, drinks, pies, cakes, dinners,--according to both Old and New Testaments! 3. As to Christmas Gifts,--still the Scriptures speak very plainly. Such gifts are described in Jeremiah, chapter ten, which we reviewed above,--the gold and silver gifts, the articles of clothing, the toys and articles all the work of "skilled workmen." All such are there positively forbidden by positive command,--"learn it not"! Also it is there where the Christmas gifts are told of that Jehovah God says His "indignation" shall be poured forth for such on all Nations wherein people so observe, that they shall "not abide His indignation"! Then in Psalm 16:4 (American Revision) we read that Jehovah God says of those who give gifts in connection with a god (in connection with any god) that "their sorrows shall be multiplied" and that He will not take their names on His lips! |

366 | DOES THE BIBLE TALK ABOUT CHRISTMAS TREE | Judg 4:4 | Norrie | 24400
WHAT THE SCRIPTURES SAY But what the harm? We would be fair enough to say there is no harm and that such is the True Story of Christmas and all its origins, if it were not for the Scriptures. But the Scriptures speak. 1. As to the Christmas Tree, the Scriptures speak plainly. Turn to Jeremiah, chapter ten, and we find that even in the ancient time of that prophet, that Christmas, with its Tree, was already a worldwide custom! The chapter begins, "Hear the word which Jehovah speaketh unto you, O house of Israel. Thus saith Jehovah,"--the words which follow, then, are words of Jehovah God, twice over declared so! Why this great stress on fact that what follows is from Jehovah God instead of being some cranky or silly notion? What does He say? "Learn not the way of the nations--." Then here is something which is already international, worldwide, in its scope! What is it? "For the customs of the peoples are vanity!" The dictionary defines "vanity" as meaning "empty, destitute of reality." Then we are going to learn of a custom that is "destitute of reality," that is not what it is represented as being, but it is a sham. That is, it is a custom that celebrates a thing as being something which really it is not! What is the custom that thus is warned against by Jehovah God? "For one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe." Here, then, is a going to the woods and the getting of a Tree. What next? "They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers that it move not." "They deck it" means they dec-orate it, and we are told with the golden and silver tinsels. Here also is the nailing it upright. "Like the palm tree" either means it is ever some evergreen, or, perhaps refers to its uprightness, that it fall not over, the why of its being fastened with hammers and nails. Then come the presents on and about it, verse 9: "There is silver baten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the artificer and of the hands of the goldsmith; blue and purple for their clothing; they are all the work of skilful men." Now what is this but disclosure. Cont. |

367 | Are Christmas and Easter pagan in origin | Gal 4:10 | Norrie | 24392
I did a search to find an appropriate catagory for this email I got today. Check out url at bottom too. It was outlawed until 1870. Did you know that christmas was actually outlawed in early America? Do you remember the "turning the tide" Revolutionary War victory of General George Washington over the Hessians on christmas eve? Was that some sacrifice? Did they fight for freedom against tyranny on christmas eve? The answer from history, both cultural and militarily, is a resounding NO! There was no "christmas sacrifice" because christmas wasn't celebrated by Americans. They knew the Germans would be ripe pickings because christmas was a German celebration that was celebrated in drunkenness (as is APPROPRIATE if you observe this day). December 25th was celebrated in honor of that evil pagan god long before the birth of The SAVIOUR. The wreath, so much used at Christmas, was used then, too. It was sacred to Bacchus, the god of drunkenness and revelry. Also, the tree, giving of gifts, and mistletoe at this time – the whole works were all part of that worship. Congress was in session 12/25/1789 - - the first christmas under America's new constitution. The New York city council instituted the city's first police force in response to xmas rioting of 1828. christmas wasn't declared a federal holiday until 6/26/1870! 5. He descended into hell. Did this ever get resolved, did He or didn't He? I remember Copeland taught yes and wasn't this one of his false teaching? Brain, I believe all that except for the question on #5. The thing is, if Cath stuck to that, it would be OK but it's all the branching out that gets them into trouble. :) I believe a Cath can still be a Christian, but question why would a Cath who is a Christian would want to stay there? If you were a Mormon and became a true follower of Jesus, you'd have to get out, same w/Islam, Hindu, etc. Of course there are other Chriistian denom that are questionable today too, they started out right but have fallen intro apostacy. Any church, whether it's a whole demon. or just a rouge church that teaches apostasy-get out!!! |

Part 2... Occasionally the secret police would send a man to ask: Will you renounce your faith in Jesus Christ and be a good Muslim again? They would try to tempt me with the offer of money and a car, my freedom, and a job with the secret police. I said no. When the authorities realized I would not give up my faith in Jesus Christ, they decided, with no explanation, to let me out of prison on bail. The secret police told me not to go to any church and said if they saw me in church they would arrest me again and kill me. Muslim law requires that anyone who converts from Islam to another religion should be killed. If another Muslim were to kill me for any reason, the government would excuse him, and he would not be arrested or even punished. I am considered a traitor to Islam, deserving to be killed. MY CHOICE IS TO SERVE JESUS CHRIST. |

This is a true testimony. I'm leaving off the man's name. For some of these brothers and sisters it is important that the area where they live now, or where they originally come from, is not too closely identified to ensure either their own safety or that of their families. Islam is the main religion in fact, the state religion in my country. Our law is subject to the demands and teachings of Islam. But I am a traitor to Islam. I was born into a Muslim family and therefore knew nothing about Jesus Christ. I had many nominal Christian friends, and I asked one of them for a Bible. When I read it, I was surprised to find that God loves me and made a way to forgive my sins. I learned that because Jesus Christ died on the cross, I could be saved and would not have to die for my sins. In studying Islam I had not found the way to know God. In studying the Bible I found that only Jesus could satisfy my hunger for Him. I decided to believe in Jesus Christ and follow Him. When I did that, my life changed in a very good way. I had peace for the first time. I was baptized and became a member of a church. Then I began to speak about my newfound life in Jesus Christ in many churches and among my friends. One day in December 1981 I talked with some people in a taxi about Jesus Christ. They led me to believe they were open to hear about the Lord. When I left the taxi, they asked for the address of my church and said they would like to attend. I gave them the address, not knowing I had already been reported because of my Christian faith. That evening they came to the church, bringing the secret police with them. I was arrested without a warrant or any legal grounds. When I arrived at the jail, one of the guards asked why I was there. When I told him it was because I was a Christian, he called the barber to shave my head. They kept me 5 days in solitary confinement, and I was not allowed to call my family or friends to tell them where I was. The guards beat me and said I could go free if I would renounce my faith in Christ. When I refused, the officials transferred me to the prison for the most dangerous criminals in the country. I was never given a trial by a court of law. I was put in a small room in solitary confinement for the next 8 months. Although it is a law that all prisoners should have two blankets, when I asked for covers they said, No. You are a Christian. You will not get any covers. I slept on the rough cement floor, no bed, no blankets and continued through the winter without even the basic necessities other prisoners were given. Despite the extreme cold, I had an open window in my room and no heating. I received one meal a day made of lentils. The had of the prison told me not to speak with anyone, as he was afraid others would believe in Jesus Christ. When the guard saw me speak with anyone, he would slap me hard and push me. Once when I was speaking with another prisoner who asked for a Bible, the head of the prison beat me with a whip. Many soldiers came to my door and said, You are a very bad man. You are an infidel. The door to my room was closed all day except for a 5 minute break to go to the rest room. The rest of the time I stayed alone in my room. Other prisoners were allowed to leave their rooms freely from 9 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon. For a month and a half my family did not know where I was. When they asked for information, the police said they did not know. I made the acquaintance of a prisoner who was permitted to send letters out of the prison. He sent messages to my family and friends, telling them where I was. They came to the prison but were told I was not there. My brother, an officer in the army, asked the secret police to tell him where I was so he could visit me and try to get me to renounce my faith in Jesus Christ. After his visit they decided to let three members of my family come, but they forbade visits of any friends, thinking they would be Christians and would try to encourage me. I was not allowed to have any money, although all the necessities such as hot water in the winter and extra food were acquired with bribes given to the guards. My friends wanted to give me food, money, and clothes, but the authorities refused. For 2 months I had only the clothes I had been wearing when arrested. Finally, my family was able to give me clothes and some food, and another prisoner who had extra privileges quietly gave me two covers. But still I had no bed. The secret police warned my family not to help me very much. They wanted to make things hard for me so I would give up my faith in Jesus Christ. Members of my family were afraid they would be killed. I thought you meant when you said Cath means universal that they were speaking for everybody-sorry! But that seg. I posted sure reads like Cath only, escept maybe Muslims. I remember arguing w/a Latter Day Saint when I was a kid, both of us claim our religions were only one going to heaven, all others going to hell. Remember, I was raised strict Cath. I haven't been a part of them for 30 yrs but I sure was indoctrinated for 20! Then all my older relatives inxcluding my dad died Cath, Mama just left them about 5 yrs ago which was a miracle in itself because I thought she'd never leave. You wouldn't believe some of the stories Mama tells about how they shafted her and she still came back for more-unbelieveable! I think I posted a few if you do a search. :) |

Brian, I'm sure the Cath Catechism doesn't speak for every Christian! I would think that it's basically RCC views, they sure wouldn't be speaking for Baptists or AOGs, etc.-see what I mean? If they mean Russian or Greek Orth, I might can accept that tho, aren't they basically offshoots? My mother has a copy of that text. She bought it for latest RCC views back when she was still one. What's that about Moslems too? They sure don't believe in Jesus as Son of God and Savior. |

Lisa, this came out of latest Cath Catechism, how do you explain it? QUOTES FROM CATHOLIC CATACHISM 846: "OUTSIDE THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH THERE IS NO SALVATION" How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers? Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Roman Catholic Church, which is his Body: Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition. the Council teaches that the Catholic Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Catholic Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and hereby affirded at the same time the necessity of the Catholic Church which men enter through Baptism as a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse to enter it. Does the Roman Catholic Catechism make any exceptions to the above doctrinal statement by naming another religious group or denomination? (Yes is 841) 841 "The Catholic Church's relationship with the Muslims: "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us adore the one merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day." In Catholic Doctrine, the only religious group that is named that can be saved without the aid of the Catholic Church is the Muslims. |
