21 | How can we be sure in God's Will ? | Bible general Archive 2 | Ken John | 116830
Emmaus, I appreciate the lengths you have taken to help me understand this very difficult area of one's walk with God. It has been a personal challenge for me as I realise that my past actions have not always been in God's Will. Our own selfish needs(the old nature) causes us to take a course in life that is not accepted by God so communication with Him in prayer is ineffective. Prayer is a very important part of my daily life but, recently, I find God's answers in short supply. I can only point to my own failures and ask myself "am I in God's Perfect Will?" If not what needs to change? I wonder how many other believers ask themselves the same question? Blessings, Ken. |

I cannot agree with what you have written about speaking in tonques for this sign has ceased today. No one is speaking in tongues in this age of Grace. If they are then I am sorry to tell you that they are fakes. There are many fakes in this world today. There was a period in Acts but Paul tells us about this in Scripture. No one was more charismatic than Paul, yet the Lord revealed to him that those sign gifts were going to cease: "whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away" (1 Cor. 13:8 KJV). Now we turn to the prison epistles, the four letters written shortly after the end of the Book of Acts, while Paul was a prisoner in Rome—Ephesians, Colossians, Philemon and Philippians...and we find that there is not one word about tongues, or the gift of healing. Even where we might have expected Paul to write of tongues in the passage about being "filled with the Spirit" in Ephesians 5:17, he has nothing to say about tongues. And as for the gift of healing, we read of a co-worker of Paul's, Epaphroditus, who fell seriously ill during this time (Phil. 2:25-30) and Paul no longer had the gift of healing, and was no longer able to heal as he did only a few years earlier in Acts 28:9. The sign gifts were no longer operating at the time that Paul wrote the Prison Epistles. |

Thanks for your reply. I have no intention of upsetting anyone but do believe what Paul has written and that speaking in tongues is not for us today in this Age of Grace. Do you know of anyone speaking in tongues? Do you understand what they are saying? What is your view of Paul's Ministry and why was he chosen by God ? Peace and Grace in Christ Jesus, Ken John. |

Thanks for your input and I agree that Scripture informs us about the past but what happens TODAY ? I would suggest quoting out of context leads one along the misinformed path because Paul continues in 1 Corinthians 13 and 14 to explain more fully about speaking in tongues. Please read these chapters again especially 1Cor14:4ff. Peace and Grace in Christ Jesus, Ken John |

Yes, thank you kindly, you did explain what you believed speaking in tongues was about. My understanding is from Scripture (KJV) and I am sorry but I must believe what Paul is telling us. The Pentecostal Church which I have attended has no one speaking in tongues but they are all lovely believing followers of the Lord Jesus Christ. The big question has always been, when did these gifts cease ? The answer is that the sign gifts ceased at the end of the Book of Acts. Why was this so? Paul explains this in 1 Corinthians 13:8-12ff. However, what does he mean in verse 10 by "But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part WILL BE DONE AWAY." The gift of tongues, prophecy and knowledge were only in part, they were incomplete. They did not communicate the full knowledge that the Lord had to reveal. In Greek, as in English, this is a neuter pronoun,"that thing which is perfect." Paul was not writing about the coming of "HE who is perfect." but of the coming of a "thing" which is perfect. When it came, then the gifts which were only "in part" would cease. In the letters written during the Acts period, the Lord had only revealed to Paul "part" of the dispensation of grace (Eph 3:2)but He had not revealed the entire message to Paul. It was still only "in part" during the Acts period, but with the close of the Book of Acts, the Lord completed the revelation of the "MYSTERY" (read Eph 3:3,4,9 and Col 1:26,27 etc). "That which is perfect" was finally revealed in ALL ITS FULLNESS to the Apostle Paul and, at that moment, those things which were only "in part" passed away from God's Program. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 13:12ff "Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known." When Paul wrote "now I know in part," he used the common word for "know," the Greek word "gnosis" but then, when he wrote "but then I shall know.." he changes the word from "gnosis" to "epignosis," TO FULLY KNOW. In other words Paul has full knowledge of God's message of Grace for US TODAY. I hope this will help you understand why and when speaking in tongues is no longer today. Peace and Grace in Christ Jesus, Ken John. |

Today many Christians have had an experience that they think is the Scriptural "gift of tongues" and they have asked "what to do?" It may be a psychological experience or even a spiritual experience. There are several possible explanations, but clearly, from the Word of God, it is NOT the Spirit's gift of speaking in tongues. Many have been taught that to speak in tongues is a sign of salvation or that the Holy Spirit is dwelling within, so it is a relief to discover the truth from Scripture that this gift is not in operation from the Lord today. Read Paul's instructions to the prophets at Corinth in 1 Cor. 14:30-33. Peace and Grace in Christ Jesus, Ken John. |

Hello tgc, thanks for your response to my post. I am not too sure what you are meaning "couldn't that be the Bible?" Would you please clarify your question as I am quoting from Scripture (KJV bible) and not my own thoughts. Peace and Grace in Christ Jesus, Ken John. |

Thanks for your response and may you be truly blessed by God working in your life. I don't know why the Apostle Paul wrote what he did but, no doubt, God used him as a messenger to us so that we would understand this change that signs are ceased today. You are a child of God as I am and the Cross is God's complete and full remedy for sin (Romans 5:1-2). We are complete in Christ (Colossians 2:10-11) thus we are blessed with ALL so signs have passed away.(Ephesians 1:3) God's Grace is sufficient for us who walk with Jesus. Peace and Grace in Christ Jesus, Ken John. |

32 | being baptized | Matt 3:6 | Ken John | 118422
Emmaus, I am not saying that Paul was not baptised in water as a Jew. Paul was not sent to baptise but to preach the gospel. Baptism in water is the religion of Israel and not really essential for believers today. Paul was sent as the Apostle of Grace, in which age we are now living, so our baptism is by the Holy Spirit. What was said by Jesus and His twelve disciples regarding water baptism was intended for the Nation Israel and not to believers today. Ken. |

Emmaus, My sincere apologies I completely misread what you had written and agree that Paul was baptized in Christ (Rom 6:3KJV)"Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?" Baptism is the working of God as you have stated. Do you agree that there is no importance to water baptism in this age of Grace ? Ken. |

34 | being baptized | Matt 3:6 | Ken John | 118602
Emmaus, You may be interested in the commentary from Barnes in connection with Matthew 3:16. "Out of the water - This shows that he had descended to the river. It literally means, “he went up directly from the water.” The original does not imply that they had descended into the river, and it cannot be proved, therefore, from this passage, that his baptism was by immersion; nor can it be proved that even, if his baptism was by immersion, that therefore the same mode is binding on people now. In order to demonstrate from this passage that immersion is essential, it is necessary to demonstrate: (a) that he went into the river; (b) that, being there, he was wholly immersed; (c) that the fact that he was immersed, if he was, proves that all others must be, in order that there could be a valid baptism. Neither of these three things has ever been demonstrated from this passage, nor can they be." Reading the other verses from Scripture which you have quoted, I am unable to see the connection between the Holy Spirit and water baptism. Ken |

37 | The Transfiguration of Jesus ? | Matt 16:28 | Ken John | 109256
Okay maybe I need to study these verses again and clear my mind as to what I was attempting to convey about the Humanity of Jesus. Yes they met God but there is more to the Transfiguration. Maybe this is a picture of Jesus showing Peter,James and John their future; as was the case with Moses and Elijah. These disciples are today with Jesus as we will be one day. When they had come down from the mountain, they get back to lunatic earth and a lack of Faith as is evident with many of us, Matt 17:14-20. KJ

Hi Emmaus, I have studied all that you have written to me and must apologise for misunderstanding what you meant. Your answer clarified my thoughts and I wish to thank you brother for giving me a good clear answer. I find that if I ask too many questions through this forum I have quite a job keeping focused and can lose track so please excuse me. Blessings KJ

40 | Matthew 19:24 is a puzzle for me ? | Matt 19:24 | Ken John | 108932
Thanks for your answers to my question and I was delighted to learn something about this gate "nicknamed" eye of the needle becuse I had been told that before today. Now brother Tim Moran has sown doubt in my mind, so can I believe anything you tell me or must I continue to pray and trust God to lead me to the right answer. After nearly 18 years of walking with Christ I must admit losing faith in man. Blessings, KJ |
