It is inferred from the following: He created us in His image and it was very good: Gen 1.27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 31 ¶ And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. He didn't require us to fall: Jas 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: And He said He always gives us a way out: 1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. He has commanded us to be perfect: Ge 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect. De 18:13 Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. 1Ki 8:61 Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day. Mt 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. 2Co 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. And he has given us the means: 2 Tim 3.16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. Nobody but Christ has done it. But we should not take comfort in numbers, but instead be encouraging one another to Holiness. Thanks for asking. |

It would be helpful for me if you would explain what sins people don't have to worry about being obedient to because they are unable to resist them. Thanks. |

I referred to 1 Cor 10:13 above when claiming that men had the ability to resist temptation. Thanks for agreeing. The question is if men are able to resist temptation. 2 Pet 2:7 indicates that Lot was able. |

Thanks. I suspect you didn't follow the thread. I made the statement that men are supposed to resist temptation. Others are claiming that men don't have the ability. I was trying to show the fallacy by extending the argument: If we are unable to resist, how can we be culpable. The one claiming that we shouldn't have resisted sin has yet to answer. I guess I am not very good at making my intentions plain. |

Hi Newwine, This just cannot be true. There are lots of unsaved people who change their behavior through behavior modification techniques. It certainly doesn't get them saved, but it does help them resist temptations. Look at 12 step programs. The law is given to constrain the behavior of evil-doers. Not to guide the saved. If all it does is condemn them, it isn't useful in this life. But if the penalty of the law prevents them from breaking it, we all benefit in this world. 1 Tim 1.8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; 9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, 10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; The position that I have taken is simply that Jesus' Holy and perfect life in the face of the same temptations we have, produces shame in us for not resisting temptation. I really do not understand the opposition to that statement. I do not understand how people say that we shouldn't have resisted temptation. If I err, I prefer to err on the side of preaching holiness rather than condoning sin. If the life of Christ does not put one to shame, then I would suspect that one does not understand their own sinfulness. |

I consider John MacArthur a mentor since I heard him every day on the radio as a new believer. However in this case he is only partly correct: "The Word of God is not a puzzle. It does not speak in riddles. It is not cryptic or mysterious. It is plain and obvious to those who have spiritual ears to hear. "The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple" (Psalm 19:7). --John MacArthur He is correct in saying that the fundamentals are clear. However, God says He speaks in riddles: Nu 12:8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches [02420]; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses? Ps 49:4 I will incline mine ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying [02420] upon the harp. Ps 78:2 I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings [02420] of old: Pr 1:6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings [02420]. Eze 17:2 Son of man, put forth a riddle [02420], and speak a parable unto the house of Israel; Da 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences [02420], shall stand up. Pr 1:22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Pr 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. Christ showed the disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13 ff) how all the scriptures spoke of Him. Until He showed them, none of the teachers had seen it before. Those hidden pictures of Him are still hidden in the Old Testament like watermarks behind the literal in types and shadows. |
