  Greetings Rozaren!

As Hank mentioned, I'm not sure that we can help much since we believe that God spoke through the prophets. Thus, Amos wrote what God spoke through him to Israel.

If the purpose of the question is to imply that Amos wrote what he wrote because of the cultural situation of his day, than we are crossing over from Bible study to pure speculation.

If the question is asking what cultural situation God was addressing through Amos, than your best bet is to simply read Amos and find out what God says there.

Your Brother in Christ,

Tim Moran

I'm not implying that Amos wrote because of the socio-political sit. of the day.

Ok this is ENTIRE question..

Discuss the work of Amos as one of the influential prophets of ancient Israel. In your presentation, give particular attention to the relationship between the socio-political situation and the shaping of the prophetic traditions.

It's a bit complex...

  Hi, Rozaren...

Perhaps these will be useful:

John Calvin:
http://www.ccel.org/c/calvin/comment2/amos.htm

John Gill:
http://www.studylight.org/com/geb/

Matthew Henry (he'll have a more devotional approach):
http://www.ccel.org/h/henry/mhc2/MHC30000.HTM

Jamieson, Fausset and Brown:
http://www.ccel.org/j/jfb/jfb/JFB30.htm

And some sermons by Charles H. Spurgeon:
http://www.spurgeon.org/index/r_am.htm

However, you'll find that these scholars will not approach the question in the way in which you have worded it. They all had the sola scriptura presupposition.

In Him, Doc

PS I wouldn't use them in your bibliography, either. It might adversly effect your grade at a Roman Catholic institution.
