What exactly does mansion mean when spoken of in the bible?
2 | what is a bible mansion | John 14:2 | MJH | 173822
The Greek word translated as Mansion in the KJV is incorrectly translated. As DocT has said, it refers to a room added to the father’s household. The idea that we are to forgo materialism here on Earth, so that in Heaven we can have our own personal "mansion" is inconsistent. If one expects to find a personal mansion in the world to come, he or she will be disappointed (if that were possible) when he or she arrives to find, not a mansion, but a community of people living together, not with glorious things, but with glorious relationships. This is the point of the scripture at hand, living with the Father and His family. MJH |

I'd rather live eternally in my Father's home than in a mansion across the street, that's for sure! :-) But isn't this promise for the New Earth rather than heaven? Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God." (Revelation 21:1-3 ESV) |

Doc, YES YES YES! It is a pet peeve of mine that so many people speak of spending eternity in heaven when that is not accurate. I kept to the "heaven" term because I didn't want to deal with two misunderstandings in one post. But it is nice to see I am not the only one who is bugged by this. (I think I used the term "The world to come" in my post as well which is what I usually do instead of saying heaven?) MJH |

5 | what is a bible mansion | John 14:2 | DocTrinsograce | 173830
Dear MJH, I've posted on the "interim state" before. I do believe that the dead saints go to heaven. But I do not believe that this is their permanent or ideal abode. God is restoring His creation. Men were created to be embodied souls. After the restoration is complete, all men -- whether saved or lost -- will exist eternally in bodies. Good point, though, not wanting to mix too many corrections in one post! :-) In Him, Doc |

Doc, I'd like to see the post on the Interim State. Do you know the ID? I personally don't know. I figure either you are in "heaven", or that when you die, you are no longer bound by the fourth dimension of time and are immediately at the second coming/judgment. I do not give credence to purgatory nor to un-conscious sleep. But from scripture, I have had little to go on. Since I have not "studied" this in depth personally, I'd love to read your thoughts. Dear MJH, Yes, the whole heaven thing is based on passages like 2 Corinthians 5:8. Of course, in Revelation we are presented with visions of saints in heaven, etc. Let's see, the posts where I talked about the Interim State were #159593 and #164291. It also appears that said something or other about it in #168409. Now, of course, you can't hold me to consistency. All three posts might say something different! :-) The older I get the more consistency strikes me as a minor nusaince not worth the effort to maintain! :-) I think the key point I meant to make is that the Interim State is an abnormal rather than ideal one. In Him, Doc |
