  The sea is a symbol of the world. Remember it was the sea that Christ calmed and which will be as calm as glass in the end. Andrew and Peter were called to be fishers of men in this sea. We cast the net as often as he wills but know that it is the Spirit that directs the men into the net.

  Dear Steve,

This is a nice sentiment. However, the Bible is not entirely allegorical. Therefore, in a sound exegesis of the Word, we must not make things have symbolic meanings unless the Scripture itself gives us that authority. The interpreter does not have that authority.
