| Hi Gal5:16, I'm going to suggest leaving Gen 17:7 as it reads and go to verse 19 for the comparison with Gal 3:18. Verse 19 deals with the covenant established with Sarah and Abraham and their son Isaac. That verse has the promise of God in Christ, when Abraham has been told that they will have a son. Genesis 17:18ff, "And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before Thee!" But **God said, "No, but Sarah your wife shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendents [Lit. seed] after him." Galatians 3:16-18, NKJ, "Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, "And to seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your Seed," who is Christ. And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in **Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise." The **stars are for comparisons. The Seed should come to whom the promise had been made. | Who is this Prophet that came from Galilee? John 7:41and 52. Who is this Seed that should come? Galatians 3:19. Looking at John 7:42 and Galatians 3:17 can we see that the covenant was being ratified by God in Christ. Did Christ come from the Seed of David as well as the Seed of Abraham? Matthew 1:1, "The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son [Son, NKJ] of David, the son [Son, NKJ] of Abraham." From the heart, Ray |

| Hello, Ray! The Plan (God's) existed from the very beginning. Genesis 3:15 is a charged verse depicting the Spiritual struggle of Satan vs. Jesus (amplified in Revelation 12). This seed will come into a human form in Jesus through the lineage of David who is Abraham's successor (Matthew 1:1, 2-17). Jesus was often spoken of as the great prophet and, since He seemed to have originated in Galilee, it was an easy built-in excuse for the unbelievers to base their apprehensions on. A parallel thought existed that said that no one would know where the Messiah would come from--since Jesus was Born in Bethlehem, Judea, exactly as the prophecy fortold these people were prooven oh so wrong! They were so determined to bring Jesus down a peg or two, that they missed the prophecy completely: they truly did not know of his origins (celestial/earthly). Remember that God's Word will not fail. Yes, it is true that the promise was originally made to Abraham, the father of faith, (who expected the coming of Christ) but he did not experience the encarnation of the Word (though Jesus tells us that he did, in the Spirit: John 8:56). Then the promise was made also to David, who wanted to build a temple to God; he was told that he would have a decendant occupying his throne for ever (what mere mortal could do that?)--Jesus, the eternal Priest and King fulfilled the Promise! (Hebrews 1:8, 4:14-16) Ray, that Promise was alive because it was God's Promise. God did not give a specific time He just said I will keep my Promise (Hebrews 11:1-40). And you are correct in saying that God ratified the covenant in Jesus--Matthew 11:10-15. Jesus is our Promise, our Inheritance! God Bless! |

| Hi JCrichton, Thank you for a well-written response in which I would find little if anything to disagree. Yet, as a person interested in capitalization it is not the answer that I was hoping for. I was looking for a response that would recognize the Seed and the Prophet. Instead, you gave me the seed and the prophet; you spoke of our Promise, our Inheritance, as if the Plan revolved around us. Forgive me for being that blunt and strong in my words. And I speak only from looking at your capitalization. Thank you for your Scriptures. Hebrew 11:11, "By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised;..." Galatians 3:19b, "...until the Seed should come to whom the promises had been made." The promises were made to Abraham and to his Seed. And the promised Seed has come. | Hello, Ray! In my fervor to study the Scriptures I will no doubt err in expressing my thoughts. I believe that Jesus is God so when I write something expressing my views I emphasize a word/title by capitalizing the first letter. Words such as plan, salvation, promise, inheritance,etc. if I refer them to Jesus most likely I will capitalize them. And because I am running with various thoughts, I may lose the point that, as in your case, is being made about Biblical capitalization. I did not mean to disrespect your position nor our Lord's Divinity. God Bless! |
