923 | Why can't I speak in tongues yet ? | Acts | skccab | 204296
Shalom Joann, Doc is certainly right, you most likely have been taught wrongly. I know that I was taught that speaking in tongues was the ONLY sign of baptism of the Holy Spirit. But in Torah (I'm sorry, I donlt know exactly where, and my Bible has been packed away for vacation), when God took of the Spirit that was on Moses and distributed it to the 70 elders who were to help him, my bible says that they prophesied (not spoke in tongues or unknown utterances), that one time, and that one time only So now we have 2 different signs of the Holy Spirit. And how about the 3pack a day smoker who, without thought or effort suddenly no longer lights up. Or the one who could put a football locker room to shame by their foul mouth suddenly, also without thought or effort on their part, their language is totally cleaned up. I think the sealing of the Holy Spirit is different with each individual as God sees fit. Which is what everyone else has been telling you. Just live you life to glorify the Lord in all you do and what He has planned for you will happen just as He wants it to, in His time. Meanwhile, relax, and enjoy the journey. :-) Cheri |

924 | "can you explain to me Acts 2:46-49 | Acts | skccab | 213081
Shalom Dcmartin, My bible only has to verse 47 in Acts 2...(some times they vary). I'm not sure what you don't understand, but I'll try to explain what I understand of the passage... This was the extreme infancy of the church and it was still mainly made up of Jews, just another sect of Judiasm. They continued daily in the temple with one accord - they still said the prayers 3 times a day in their local worship area (the Temple, for these spoken of), preached there the gospel that the promised Messiah had come, they took their meals with fellow believers in their different homes V. 47 they were continually praising God as He showed them favor and more and more people were added to their fellowship. If you're confused about the statement "those who were being saved" - salvation in a one time thing but a life time of attaining. Little by little, day by day, one's life changes as they follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. Hope this helps Cheri |

928 | Holy Spirit - indwelling / infilling | Acts 2:38 | skccab | 188245
Hi all, I checked the Search mechanism, but didn't really get the info I was looking for - so maybe it's time to bring up the subject again. What are anyone's views on the difference between the indwelling (at the time of receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior) and infilling (at the time of asking for it) of the Holy Ghost? All thoughts are welcome, please blessings cheri |

929 | Holy Spirit - indwelling / infilling | Acts 2:38 | skccab | 188249
Jeff and Lionheart, Thank you for your input. I am a restored believer (of about 15mos now) out of the 70's Pentecostal arena. Just had some questions. Back then (I can't say about now) the Pentecostals did distinguish an indwelling and a filling. I was just wanting to get a fresh handle on it. You both helped much. blessings cheri |

Shalom Mrs. Dean, I'm very sorry to hear the trouble you are having finding a welcoming church. I can identify, it took me 2 years to find my home - but one is out there for you when it's time. Meanwhile, Oneplace.com has well over 50 pastor/preacher/teachers that you can listen to with your husband at home. And we here at SBF may not be as good as real arms to gather you up and hug you or real faces that crinkle with smiles when we see you - but we're here for you. And many of us have our email addresses listed in our profiles - they are there for a reason. None of us mind giving cyberhugs and cybersmiles when a sister or brother needs one!! I join sister Azure in praying for you. Cheri |

933 | Ananias and Sapphira paid for their sin | Acts 5:9 | skccab | 213051
Shalom Keliy, Let me say first that I'm at work and not on my own puter, so if you need scripture references, I can get to them way later tonight. But I consider the act of these two NT people goes back to the Torah where it says that once a thing is purposed in one's heart to give to God, it's His - it's not to be changed, not even for something better (and if one did change what was purposed then BOTH would belong to God). Annias and wife purposed to give ALL and then held some back - what they held back already belonged to God, it had become holy because it was His and they abused it. (I figure you probably know where this law is but if you need me to reference it, I can do so when I get home.) :o) Cheri |

934 | Ananias and Sapphira paid for their sin | Acts 5:9 | skccab | 213057
Hiya Keliy, After I pressed the submit button I realized my response didn't answer your question - which by the way is a very good one. (If you get a viable answer elsewhere please share it with me via email in my profile.) I'm very happy that you are enjoying Mr. Tom :o) His teachings have a way of just opening up sayings and events that took place in the NT in a way I've never viewed them before...and certainly sayings and events of the OT era that I've never been taught before. Are you listening to Genesis? Have you gotten to chapters 48-49 yet? He does an awesome job on those!! Shalom Cheri |

935 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | skccab | 195293
Shalom y'all I've had a question for awhile but haven't really known how to phrase it - not sure still that I can phrase it correctly - but here goes... To start, I understand the word used in Deut. 6:4 "echad" is a word similar to the Christian view of the Trinity, more than singular but yet One. I don't have a problem with the view of the 3 as we see it in Matthew at Yeshua's mikvah, He in the water, the Holy Spirit descending upon Him as a dove and the Voice of the Father being heard. In fact, I love the picture that verse gives. But in Acts 7:55 where Stephen sees the Son of Man standing to receive him (I love that picture!!) apparently also sees the Father (or so that is the impression the verse gives). Is this the only place where the 2 are "seen" together? And how is that possible? Am I reading that verse wrong? Or is it only the glory that he saw and just assumed the Father was there, and was He? Learning :-) Cheri |

936 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | skccab | 195295
Morning Doc, Pretty early for ya!! Thanks for the quick reply. Gonna have a lot to ponder on here. Is it even comprehensible? It doesn't sound like it!! It's so big, God is growing bigger than my mind can see! This is a good thing, but confusing!! |

937 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | skccab | 195307
Shalom my dear brother, Thank you, you are always such a help. What I was trying to say in my poor way is that God is coming out of the "little box" I've had Him in, and that's a very good thing. More and more, week by week, day by day I'm beginning to relate to Isaiah's vision of the Lord in Isa. 6 and to John's vision of Him in Rev. 1. It's awe-inspiring, it's frightening, it's confusing, but it's wonderful. We have such a God and He's concerned about us!! I'm sorry, I've just finished reading many prophecies about the Promised Seed, King to come and I"m awe-struck and rambling. :-) Cheri |

You misunderstood, again, but that's ok, getting used to it
939 | Did Stephen see the Father? | Acts 7:55 | skccab | 195326
Shalom sweet brother, I probably shouldn't have said "little box" but I was picturing Him bursting out of the "littleness" my own mind had been keeping Him in. I don't know, maybe so that I could comprehend Him. But He's too big, He's incomprehensible! If I want to grow, I have to let Him be the Awesome God that He is. I can't apprehend Him but He can apprehend me! Am I making sense, or not being clear again? See, I wasn't putting Doc down, he's a dear. I just sometimes can't say in black and white words what's in my heart and get misunderstood. But that's ok. Thank you for helping me see this. :-) learning and loving it Cheri |
