41 | When and where Moses put in the Nile? | Ex 2:5 | roverjbh99 | 7261
The scripture says: Pharaoh's daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her handmaid to get it. She opened it, and saw the child, and, behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, "This is one of the Hebrews' children." (WEB) You can't conclude from that passage were Moses was dropped off at. Looking at a map of the mid-east and Africa will show that the Nile is a pretty long river. Moses could have been dropped anywhere in the Nile River area. As regards to the date, Henry Halley writes that it could have been 1200-1400 BCE. Hope this helps. Joshua |

46 | satan and angels cast out? | Is 14:12 | roverjbh99 | 56756
Isaiah 14:12-14 is your best bet. It says (Quotes are from RSV): "How you are fallen from heaven, O Day Star, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! You said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High.' |

50 | delivered from sin, satan, or both??? | Matt 6:13 | roverjbh99 | 4239
some translations render the first clause of this verse as 'evil' (as the NAS95 does) and others as 'evil one'. My question is: Did Jesus pray for us to deliver us from evil (sin) or the evil one (satan)??? Help!!!
51 | where does peter say | Matt 16:28 | roverjbh99 | 46386
You are refering to 2 Pt 1:16-18: 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased," 18 we heard this voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. --- Unless otherwise stated, all scripture quotations are from the Revised Standard Version, Copyright (c) 1946, 1952, 1973 by the Division of Christian Education of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the United States of America. |

52 | I'm Back! | Luke 13:4 | roverjbh99 | 56772
It's been a long while since I posted. Since then, I have moved from Hawaii to Virginia. When I have posted, I have been a stauch NRSV user. Now, after lying to myself so long (over language towards gender), I have dropped the NRSV and have gone to the RSV. Since that, I have felt better and liberated. Now on to the questions: Recently nine Miners were pulled from a shaft alive. I praise God for that. I am wondering, why did God let those nine miners live but let 3,000 plus people perish on 11 Sept 01? Second question: Is the Universal Life Church scripurial? Thanks Everyone! |

54 | Who wrote the letter to the Hebrews? | Hebrews | roverjbh99 | 8360
I have always belived that Timothy wrote Heb. Why? Because in some KJV Bibles there's a small note that says the book was written from Italy by TIMOTHY. Bruce Metzger and Henry Halley accept Pauline authorship; J. Vernon McGee lays out a defense of Pauline authorship. Only God knows.
55 | Joshua or Jesus? | Heb 4:8 | roverjbh99 | 9393
Does this verse refer to Jesus or Joshua (The Son of Nun) giving people rest? I took my favorite translations (KJV, ASV, NRSV, WEB, NKJV, and NAS) and compared them. The results are below. 56 | The cannonization of Jude | Jude | roverjbh99 | 9603

58 | what about the K J V | Rev 3:10 | roverjbh99 | 25142
I use many translations, including the NRSV, NAS, NKJV, AMP, and RSV. When a reading is not clear, I use the WEB, KJV, NET, ASV, and the ALT. I generally favor the more "critical" translations, because I clearly believe the TR/M-Text has many doubtful passages such as Mark 16:9-20, 1 John 5:7-8, John 7:53-8:11, etc. If are concidering a translation, I recommend the NRSV. It's clear and its based on the best MSS we have and clearly have and marks the doubtful passages I listed above. It also uses inclusive language for humaninity and NOT for the Godhead. |
