822 | Who is the 'young man' in Mark 14:51? | Mark 14:51 | prayon | 7153
Hi Nolan! It is indeed believed that it is Mark himself. If it was anyone but Mark why did he not give his name? If it was Mark and I were him I wouldn't givce my name either. :o) prayon
823 | who was Simon of Cyrene | Mark 15:21 | prayon | 41512
Greetings, Simon was a man from Northern Africa who began as a spectator, watching our Lord as He was led out of the city. The soldiers forced him to carry the cross. What an honor that must of been for him for all eternity. If simon was at first forced to become personally involved in the physical cross of Jesus, it appears later that he chose to take on the spiritual meaning of the cross for himself. prayon
824 | who was Simon of Cyrene | Mark 15:21 | prayon | 41721
Greetings, You can come to this conclusion because both of his sons recognized the Christian church and Paul mentions Rufus with warm affection (Romans 16:13). The sons were probably young at this time since Simon must of been young and fit enough to carry the cross. I doubt that the soldiers would of chosen an older man to carry the heavy cross. Simon had to of encouraged them in the Christian faith. prayon

826 | WILL YOU KNOW YOUR LOVE ONES IN HEAVEN | Luke | prayon | 2241
Also see 1Cor15:51-55. Here Paul tells us that at the sound of the trumpet we will rise and our bodies will be made imperishable -"THIS mortal body will put on immotality"(v.53). We will keep the same bodies but they will be made imperishable - no sickness, no handicaps, no limitations. ALLELUJA!!!
827 | the conversion of Zaccheus | Luke | prayon | 19959
Luke used the story of Zaccheus to show us that some people are considered untouchable due to their jobs, looks, beliefs, or political views. Zaccheus was apparently a very unpopular tax collector. Luke teaches us that we should not give into social pressure to avoid these people, but instead, like Jesus we should reach out to them and show them the love of Jesus. When we do this sinners can be saved. prayon
828 | What is the lesson from Lk 18:9-14 | Luke | prayon | 35668
Greetings; In addition to what Benjamite wrote I add the following: The Pharisee prayed aloud where everyone could hear him. Self-righteousness is dangerous. It can lead to pride and can prevent us hearing from God. When we are not humble and pray aloud for others to hear our achievements we receive our rewards at that time- do not expect more from God. (Matt 6:5). "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble" (1Pet 5:5b). God's recognition is more important than man's. prayon |

830 | Luke on material possessions | Luke | prayon | 35680
Greetings and welcome to the forum! Jesus is pointing to a higher issue here than the family inheritance mentioned in verse 1. He is stressing the importance of a corrct attitude toward the accumulation of wealth. Life is more than material goods, far more important is our relationship with God. The good life has nothing to do with being wealthy - so we are to beware of covetness (greed for what we don't have). We need to learn to tune out all the earthly enticements and instead concentrate on living in a good relationship with God. The man in the parable died before he could use in his barns. Wealth and planning for retirement is good but it only lasts a short time. We must be more concerned about what we have to take with us into eternal life. Jesus challenges us to think beyond earthly goals and to use what we have been given for God's kingdom. Faith, service, and obedience are the way to get rich with God. Hope this helps. prayon |

832 | Humble birth | Luke 2:7 | prayon | 26922
Whether it has significance or not, one thing that we can get from this passage is that we should not limit God by our expectations. The Jews were looking for their expected Messiah to be born in a holy place but God had different ideas. Also, at the time of Christ there was a tax that was taken on all the trees on a persons property; therefore all trees were cut down so the people would not be taxed. The stable that is referred to is actually a cave. It was a very dark and dirty place. God is at work wherever he is needed in our sin darkened and dirty world. prayon |

833 | Who wrote Luke? What generation is Mary? | Luke 3:23 | prayon | 72064
Greetings Shallae and welcome to the forum. The first 4 books of the New Testament are called the gospels. The Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke are known as the synoptic gospels. They all take a common view of the life of Christ, and emphasize Jesus' humanity. Matthew emphasizes Him as the King or Messiah. Mark emphasizes Him as the tireless servant Luke emphasizes Him as the Ideal Man The 4th gospel, John, emphasizes Jesus' diety and presents Him as the Son of God. Whereas the book of John is a gospel, 1John is known as an epistle or letter. There was a lot of heresy in the churches at that time that denied that Christ was God incarnate. John wrote the letter to expose false teachers and to give believers the assurance of salvation. There are 2 different geneologies of Jesus in the NT. The first one is in Matthew 1:1-16 and shows how Jesus lineage through His earthly father and proves His legal right to the throne. Luke 3:22-38 gives His lineage through His mother and proves His blood-right to the throne. I hope I have answered your questions. If you have more let me know. prayon |

834 | EXPLAIN VERSE 10 IN MARK CHP:5 | Luke 4:34 | prayon | 171834
Greetings Romanz and welcome to the forum! There are different views as to what this verse means. One view is that they did not want to go back to perdiction from where they came from but that would not be sending them to another country. I believe that the word country should be taken literally. The area that they were in was Gadarenes which was a heathen country where the people did not know God.They wanted to stay in that country because they knew the dispositions and tempers of the people in the area. Their authority and power were great here and they could act with less restraint. They did not want to go to a new place that might of been full of Christians where they would not of had the same authority. prayon
835 | Up to what extent should I give? | Luke 6:30 | prayon | 86723
Greetings Bnbriones, I will answer the 2nd question first. When someone asks something of you the first thing you should do is take it to God and ask Him what His will is in the situation. If God tells you to give the person what he needs then do it. However, God can see the whole picture and sometimes will tell us not to help in the situation. We are to give to the needy but only when God puts it into our spirit to do so. If that person does not pay you back then that person will have to answer to God. You can not do anything about that person breaking their promise to you. If you hold onto the situation then it will turn into anger and resentment which is not of God. If God told you to give to this person then God will reward you for your obedience whether or not you were paid back or not. Give the situation over to God and let Him deal with this person. He may just convict the person's heart to honor his word. prayon |

837 | To judge or not to judge? | Luke 6:37 | prayon | 15579

838 | What do you think? | Luke 6:42 | prayon | 144864
Greetings, What you say is very sad. Too many of God's churches judge others which is exactly what Jesus told us not to do. Many do it because of what their appearance looks like, some for other reasons. It sounds as if this is what happened at this church. For whatever reason the church judged this man and found him unworthy of going to their church. The reason he is welcome in another church is because the newer church is not judging him. We are told to hate the sin but love the sinner. Because many churches don't too many people are "run out of church" and never return because of the past experience, thus keeping them out of church and away from a relationship with God. Hope this helps. prayon |

839 | What do you think? | Luke 6:42 | prayon | 144886
Hi Hank - In reading the scenario I think the church was in the wrong. First, it says the "church had a vote and decided that they had to move". Why did it take the church to vote? The preacher should of dealt with the situation. He knew about the situation, Shouldn't he of gone to see both of them on his own without the church forcing him (and to me that seems like what happened) and at least tried to council them instead of saying that their "sin was the number one sin greater even than murder." Where does the bible even say this? Second - "The church did not pray for this couple" - why not? That should of been one of the first things they did - before even contacting him. Third - "no one from the church came to invite the young lady to church". Why not? Possibly because they felt she was not worth it? The preacher did ask the young man to come back to church "but he no longer feels welcome". Why not? Something must of made him feel that way. I just thank God that he didn't do like some would and leave the church but instead found a church that he felt comfortable in. I am not saying that the couple were right - they weren't. Pure and simple they were living in sin. prayon By the way would you please call the rain back over to your side of the country? It is getting ridiculous over here..... |

840 | What do you think? | Luke 6:42 | prayon | 144887
The thing is that we are to condemn the sin - not the sinner. I think that it is possible to judge that a person is sinning and approach them in a loving manner and still not condemn the person at the same time. Too many times we judge the person as being evil and unworthy because of the sin that they are doing or in. That is why so many people refuse to go to church, etc. In confronting the person I think that it is very important to remember that God loves the person and Jesus gave His life for this person. What else is important to remember is that Satan is a deceiver and this person is being deceived by Satan into believing that he is not commiting a sin. The couple was definitely in the wrong and was living in sin without a doubt. I just have a problem with the way they approached him (read my reply to Hank). prayon |
