681 | delivered from sin, satan, or both??? | Matt 6:13 | prayon | 4254
There is debate on this question and nobody really knows for sure. In Greek it is ambiguous, but according to the International Bible commentary it is believed that the personal reading is better, for God uses Satan as the tester. It may well be that the original Aramaic was just as vague. Hope this helps
682 | Our forgiving others / God forgiving us? | Matt 6:14 | prayon | 10548
The Life Application Commentary describes it this way - Jesus gives a startling warning about forgiveness if we refuse to forgive others, God will also refuse to forgive us. Why? Because when we don't forgive others, we are denying our common ground as sinners in need of God's forgiveness. God's forgiveness of sin is not the direct result of our forgiving others, but it is based on our realizing what forgiveness means (see Eph. 4:2). It is easy to ask God for forgiveness but difficult to grant it to others. When we ask God to forgive us for sin, we should ask ourselves, "Have I forgiven the people who have wronged me"?
683 | can fasting be from one item like coke | Matt 6:18 | prayon | 41516
Greetings inyouth2002, I disagree with searcher. There are many who can not abstain from food because of health issues. If abstaining from food is the only way to fast many would not be able to. In E. L. Towns book "Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough", he tells us there are 4 types of fasting. 1. The normal fast is going without food for a definite period of time but ingesting liquids. 2. The absolute fast allows no food or drink at all. 3. The partial fast is one that omits certain foods or is on a schedule that includes limited eating. It may consist of eating one meal a day, or eating only fresh vegetables. 4. A rotational fast consists of eating or omitting certain families of foods for designated periods. For example vegetables may be eaten only every fourth day. Fasting, TO ME, and this is my personal opinion, is the giving up of something you truly love, sacrificing it in order to honor God and spend time with Him. I can not abstain from food for medical reasons so when I fast I have abstained from different things. Sometimes it is a certain type of food, sometimes it is something different. I have abstained from TV for example because I used to watch TV a lot. It was something that I sacrificed to spend more time with God. I believe the main thing is that you abstain from something that you truly desire to do or eat - something that a SACRIFICE on your part to give up, not something that you feel you can "do without" easily. I advise you to do what you feel God is leading you to do whether it be sacrificing food or something else. prayon |

684 | Fasting and prayer | Matt 6:18 | prayon | 110167
Greetings, Fasting is designed to weaken the flesh and to strenghthen the spirit. Jesus views fasting as a voluntary way to attain humility and for reflecting on God's word. God looks at your true motive for fasting. It does not matter that you only spend 2 hours in the word. He would not want you to neglect your daughter or your responsibilities. I might add that we are to "Pray without ceasing" (1Th 5:17) so even if you are not able to have more study / prayer time than you are you are still able to pray. Praying in tongues does not neccessarly cause you to hear more from God but what it does do is have you praying in line with God's word. "Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered." (Rom 8:26) The majority of the time our flesh wants to pray what we think is needed but when we pray in the Spirit we pray for that which we do not know about "For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. (1Co 14:14). As for how long to fast, fast for however long the Lord lays it on your heart to fast whether it be 2 hours or 20 days. What matters is that you are in obedience to Him. prayon |

686 | Can Christians listen to r and b music | Matt 6:21 | prayon | 125034
Greetings Nakia, Yes most definitly. Christians can listen to any type of music they want. The thing that determines what music we can listen to is the words. Be sure that the words are pure. Remember: Whatever you give attention to you RESPOND to... Whatever you respond to you CONFORM to Whatever you conform to you BECOME prayon |

687 | money | Matt 6:24 | prayon | 166828
Greetings and welcome to the forum! You didn't say what aspect of money you wanted references to.. In reference to giving: Mal 3:10 "Bring one-tenth of your income into the storehouse so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this way," says the LORD of Armies. "See if I won't open the windows of heaven for you and flood you with blessings. 2Co 9:7 Each of you should give whatever you have decided. You shouldn't be sorry that you gave or feel forced to give, since God loves a cheerful giver. On relation to faith: Luk 16:10-11 Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with a lot. Whoever is dishonest with very little is dishonest with a lot. Therefore, if you can't be trusted with wealth that is often used dishonestly, who will trust you with wealth that is real? Phi 4:19 My God will richly fill your every need in a glorious way through Christ Jesus. Pro 11:28 Whoever trusts his riches will fall, but righteous people will flourish like a green leaf. Love of money: Heb 13:5 Don't love money. Be happy with what you have because God has said, "I will never abandon you or leave you." 1Ti 6:10 Certainly, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who have set their hearts on getting rich have wandered away from the Christian faith and have caused themselves a lot of grief. Ecc 5:10 Whoever loves money will never be satisfied with money. Whoever loves wealth will never be satisfied with more income. Even this is pointless. Psa 37:16 The little that the righteous person has is better than the wealth of many wicked people. Hope these help. prayon |

688 | Worry, Cannot trust ppl and Criticism | Matt 6:25 | prayon | 60184
Greetings Lialia, We worry when we do not trust God or rely on Him totally. I got an email today that I am including to you that I think will help you to stop worrying: Moses and the people were in the desert, but what was he going to do with them? They had to be fed, and feeding 2 or 3 million people requires a lot of food. According to the Quartermaster General in the Army, it is reported that Moses would have to have had 1500 tons of food each day. Do you know that to bring that much food each day, two freight trains, each at least a mile long, would be required! Besides you must remember, they were out in the desert, so they would have to have firewood to use in cooking the food. This would take 4000 tons of wood and a few more freight trains, each a mile long, just for one day. And just think, they were forty years in transit. And Oh yes! They would have to have water. If they only had enough to drink and wash a few dishes, it would take 11,000,000 gallons each day and a freight train with tank cars, 1800 miles long, just to bring water! And then another thing! They had to get across the Red Sea at night. Now, if they went on a narrow path, double file, the line would be 800 miles long and would require 35 days and nights to get through. So there had to be a space in the Red Sea, 3 miles wide so that they could walk 5000 abreast to get over in one night. But then, there is another problem...............each time they camped at the end of the day, a campground two-thirds the size of the state of Rhode Island was required, or a total of 750 square miles long........ think of it! This much space for camping. Do you think Moses figured all this out before he left Egypt? I think not! You see, Moses believed in God. God took care of these things for him. Now do you think God has any problem taking care of all your needs? As for the not being able to trust people and critcism I am not sure what you are asking. Could you be a little bit more specific about the situation. If you feel more comfortable in emailing me feel free, the address is in my profile. prayon |

689 | What is the kingdom of God ? | Matt 6:33 | prayon | 126849
Greetings Zam zam and welcome to the forum! The God's Word translation makes it a little easier to understand what Christ means: "But first, be concerned about his kingdom and what has his approval. Then all these things will be provided for you". You seek the kingdom by seeking God. Seek - (to seek literally or figuratively; specifically to worship God - be about, desire, endeavour, enquire , require) His face - seek a relationship with Him daily. Make your single aim to be have God to reign in your life and your heart. The kingdom of God "comes not with outward show" (Luk:17:20) but is chiefly that which is inward and spiritual (Rom:14:17). Seek him with your whole heart. Hope this helps. prayon |

690 | Is it wrong to preach against sin? | Matt 7:2 | prayon | 60567
Greetings Pastor Glenn, NO! Absolutely not! Can I say it any stronger? Matthew 7:2 does not prohibit all types of judging (v.16). There is a righteous kind of judgement we are supposed to exercise with careful discernment (John 7:24 - Do not judge according to appearance but with righteous judgement). Censorious, hypocritical, self-righteous or other kinds of unfair jugements are prohibited. In other words the type of judgement that tears another down in order to build one's self up. Judge not means condemn not. Condemning others so blinds our spiritual vision (like a beam of wood in the eye)that we are unable to see to help take the speck out of anothers eye. When preaching your are to condemn the sin i.e., lying or stealing. Preach that sin is what will lead you to absence of eternal life. Do not preach against a person, preach against the sin. An attitude of "if the shoe fits...". The hearers of the Word should then decide whether it applies to them. If you did not preach against sin and say that it was wrong how do you think that your congregation would learn that sin leads to death? It is your responsibility to preach the truth, whether you step on toes or not. You are the shepherd and your congregation is your flock. You must answer to God concerning the actions and condition of your flock. Do you want to go in front of Jesus and tell Him that you did not want to preach aginst sin because you didn't want to judge anyone? As for the "church goers" - Maybe they don't want to hear it because when they hear it the Holy Spirit moves to convict them and they don't want to give up the sin. Remember, the devil will use anyone he can to stop God's word from going out. John the Baptist was beheaded because he upset Herodias by condemning her sin. Herodias married Phillip, her fathers brother. John openly rebuked the sin of incest strongly. The daughter of Herodias asked for John's head because her mother wanted revenge on John. Because of his promise he had to give it. He was grieved because he did not want to behead John. So I guess you could say that John was beheaded because he preached against sin. What would of happpened if John hadn't followed his call to preach against sin and prepare the path for Jesus? prayon |

691 | ALL christians in speaking out on sin? | Matt 7:2 | prayon | 60576
Greetings again, Yes you have my permission. I think there is a slight difference. Where as you are responsible for your sheep, Christians are basically responsible for themselves. Christians are to witness to nonbelievers and let them know what is sin but not on the level you are. When questioned, Christians however, must call a sin a sin. They are not to sugarcoat it either. They too will one day have to stand before God and explain why they did not tell someone of a sin. Imagine how it would be if that person missed heaven because a Christian didn't want to judge them or hurt their feelings. Like you, they must hate the sin and love the sinner. agape, prayon |

694 | Listening to God | Matt 7:7 | prayon | 61039
Greetings vildan and welcome to the forum, The first way to learn to hear God is to pray. "Make me to know your ways O Lord; teach me your paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long" (Psalm 25:4-5). Ask Him to let you hear Him. "Whatever you ask me I will give you up to half of my kingdom" (Mark 6:23). "Whatever you ask of God, God will give you" (John 11:22). Then listen. He will speak to you in a quiet voice. The story of Elijah teaches us that God speaks more frequently in whispers than in shouts. God also uses others to speak to you. It might be through a person who you are having a conversation with, or through the radio or TV. Hope this helps. prayon |

695 | Spirtual Gifts | Matt 7:13 | prayon | 8580
Ezekiel, The gift of tongues (the ability to speak by inspiration of the Holy Spitit in a language which has not been learned) is still alive and well today. Many people have dimissed the gift of tongues, because they have not understood the value and significance of the gift. Those people deprive themselves and those who they influence of much blessing. 1Cor 12:7-10 lists the nine spiritual gifts, one being tongues. None of the other spiritual gifts have disappeared why should this one? Throughout the history of the Church there is a record of believers who exercised the gift of speaking in tongues, including such men as John Wesley, Charles Finney and D.L. Moody. Paul tells us that he would "like all of you to speak in tongues". He knew that this letter would be spread throughout the world, therefore by not naming the Corinthians in particular he meant it for everyone. He also tells us in 1Cor 14:4 theat "he who speaks in tongues edifies himself"; he is "building up" his spirit. The daily use of tongues in worship and d prayer will keep the spirit strong. In answer to your question asked in a previous post, How do you receive it? all who have received the baptism of the Holy Spirit have the ability to speak in tongues. All you have to do is to then speak out in faith and the Holy Spirit will give it to you. it is as though the Holy Spirit takes over your tongue and vocal cords. However, people receive it at different times - God's timing. Some people receive the gift upon baptism, some much later. I have spoken in tongues for quite a while and I can tell you that it is a very uplifting and rewarding experience. prayon |

697 | How can we discern false teachers? | Matt 7:15 | prayon | 109623

700 | Why can't he tell anyone? | Matt 8:4 | prayon | 166876
Greetings and welcome to the forum! Miracles tend to draw public attention and Christ did not want the publicity the miracle would draw to hinder His ministry. However, that was exactly what happened according to Mark 1:45 (When the man left, he began to talk freely. He spread his story so widely that Jesus could no longer enter any city openly. Instead, he stayed in places where he could be alone. But people still kept coming to him from everywhere). prayon
