301 | Christianity and beliefs | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 41029
Greetings charlottetu, 1. Most assuredly I am a committed Christian 2. I became a true Christian at the age of 30. I thought I was a Christian before that but I never truly knew what it meant to be one and I neither walked the walk or talked the talk. 3.If I was to pick a denomination it would be Church of God in Christ - Pentecostal. 4.I am confirmed by God. 5. I communicate by praying, praising, worshiping, listening and reading His word. I also believe that God will communicate with you through other Christians. 6. I do my best to go one or more times a week. 7. I believe in the one true and living God, and that Jesus Christ died for my sins and on the 3rd day He rose. 8. I have eternal salvation and a peace and joy in my heart that can only come from knowing God. 9. It means to be a student and a follower. 10. Yes, I am both a student who is ever learning and a follower of Jesus Christ. 11. Yes, I believe that when you encourage or enable someone to do things that are sinful then you are going against Christianity. I did both of these before I became a true Christian. 12. There are too many things to list that I wouldn't do anymore. In short I can say that I try not to do anything that goes against the teachings of the bible, although I do sin just as any other human being sins. Your welcome, prayon |

302 | What are the synoptic Gospels? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 60237
The gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called the synoptic gospels because of their common structure, perspective and contents. In fact all the material of each can be set in parallel columns in such a way that all three records could be seen together or "synoptically". The similarity of these gospel may be seen in their general outline of Jesus' life and activity, details of style and language, and at times exact or nearly exact verbal statements of Jesus. The gospel of Matthew, Mark and Luke differ from the gospel of John. John has a certain quality that puts it in an altogether different category. John was the oldest of all the disciples and his book was written last. In writing his book last he had time to delve into the deeper truth concerning Jesus, the divine son of God. It was important that this deeper meaning be supplied to the world so God caused John to supply this particular key to understanding the gospel already told in the earlier gospels. Whereas the earlier gospels focused on the miracles of Jesus and the peoples reactions to them John focused on certain words and works of Jesus and omitted many incidents (including all parables) in Jesus life. John called the miracles signs and focused on their spiritual significance. He had one aim in mind, to show that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, and by believing in this one could have eternal life. prayon |

306 | The geneology of Jesus? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 72070
Greetings, In addition to what EdB said there is another difference. In Matthew the geneology goes from father to son forward. It begins with Abraham and ends with Joseph showing the Legal or royal line of Jesus. Matthew also includes the names of 5 women; Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Mary and Bathsheba (the wife of Uriah v.6). In Luke's geneology it starts with the son and goes from father to son backward starting with Jesus and ending with Adam. prayon |

307 | Does it matter where you go to church ? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 72158
Greetings Christian Tim, Yes it matters very much where you go to church at. There are many churches that claim to teach the word of God but twist it to fit their needs or be what the congregation wants to hear. A good church should have the following qualities: It should preach the word of God as God means it, whether it "steps on anyones toes" or not. It should call a sin a sin. The Word should not be given to line up with what today's people think is appropriate, nor should it be preached to be politically correct. The pastor should have certain qualities himself (see 1Tim 3:2-8). In seeking the right church it may take some time. Try different denominations. When you go to a church check your Bible to be sure that what is preached lines up with the word of God competely and totally. When you go to a church allow the Holy Spirit inside you to direct you. If you have an uneasiness then that is not where you are supposed to be. If you don't have a peace in your spirit then move on. When you do attend the church you are to make your home you will feel a peace in your heart and in your spirit. This is where you should stay and plant yourself. prayon |

308 | Does it matter where you go to church ? | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 72174
This is true. Before one can rely on the Holy Spirit to give direction in your life you have to know the difference between emotional response and the Spirit's response. I guess I answered you the way I did because my spirit prompted me to. It knew that you would know the difference... :o) prayon
309 | Describe Jesus in Matt and John. | NT general Archive 1 | prayon | 91702
Greetings Jaanie and welcome to the forum. Each gospel portrays Jesus in a different way. Matthew which was written about 60 AD presents Jesus as the might king and emphasizes the power of Christ. It is a teaching gospel and portays Jesus as a lion (see Eze 1:10). The book ends with His resurrection. Mark is believed to be the first gospel written about 58AD. I presents Jesus as an obedient servant and emphasizes the service of Christ. It is a narrative gospel full of action. It portrays Jesus as a ox and the book ends with the ascension. Luke was written after Matthew and presents Jesus as the ideal Son of Man. It emphasizes the sympathy of Christ and is carefully documented. It portrays Jesus as a man and ends with the coming of the Holy Spirit. John was the last gospel written about 98 AD. It presents Jesus as the divine Son of God and emphasizes the wisdom of Christ. It is the spiritual gospel and portrays Jesus as an eagle. It ends with the return of Jesus to earth. Matthew, Mark and Luke are called the synoptic gospels and take a common view of the life of Christ emphasizing the His humanity. John's gospel emphasizes His diety. Hope this helps. prayon |

313 | Did Adam die lost? | Genesis | prayon | 7155
I believe that Adam went to heaven. In Genesis in the story of Abel and Cain it tells us that Abel obeyed God's teaching by tithing and that he was a good servant. The Lord had regard for him (Gen 4:4b). He also had a great faith as he is the first member of the hall of faith in Hebrews 11. In order for Abel to feel this way and to honor God as he did he had to of been taught about God by Adam. If Adam had taught him this he must of known of God's love and forgiveness. I am sure that Adam, knowing he had done wrong, asked for God's forgiveness and was forgiven because He is a loving and forgiving God. prayon

318 | "queen of heaven"? | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 23789
Greetings Nolan! In addition, Ishtar in my commentary states that she was a Mesopotamian goddess of love and war. After the fall of Jerusalemm the refugees from Judah who fled to Egypt continued to worship her (chap. 44). A papyrus dating from the 5th century BC found at Hermopolis in Egypt, mentions the queen of heaven among the gods honored by the Jewish community living there. prayon
319 | I need discussion questions from Nahum 3 | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 34084
Greetings! In verse 4 it talks about how Ninevah used its beauty, prestige and power to seduce other nations. She was beautiful on the outside. But on the inside she was vicious and deceitful. Beneath beauty sometimes lies seduction and death. Sometimes we let people seduce us by their beauty and lure us into sin. A lesson in verse 8-10 is that no power on earth can protect us from God's judgement or be a suitable power in our lives. Don't insist on learning through personal experience, instead heed the lessons that history has already taught us. We don't like the idea of being ruled harshly, so we do what we can to stay on good terms with a powerful leader. Deep down we would like that type of power. But power is seductive so we should not scheme to get it. Those who lust after power are always destroyed. Hope this helps some. prayon |

320 | Gen, 1:1-3 Gap theorythe fall?? | Gen 1:1 | prayon | 125601
Greetings and welcome to the forum Empty, There is indeed a theory called the "Gap Theory" that there was a gap of time between Gen 1:1 and 1:2. If the earth was created a fruitful place and then became a wilderness (see Jer 4:23-28) then there could be a gap of time in there. 2Peter 3:4-7 leads some scholars to believe this is indeed true. During this time a pre-Adamic race many have existed on a pre-Adamic earth. In addition Lucifer and his angels may have ruled over the nations. This is very possibly the time of the fall of Lucifer which the bible mentions but never elaborates on. In Gen 1:28 the KJV says to 'replenish' the earth. Gen 1:9 also says to 'replenish' the earth this time referring to the time of Noah. Why did the earth need replenished the first time? Hope this helps. prayon |
