1261 | Mount Sinai or Zion? | Heb 12:22 | prayon | 11535
Many awesome things happened on Mt. Sinai. It was the mountain that the law was delivered to Moses and the covenant between God and Isreal was sealed and where God revealed his presence. It has also been called the Mountain of God, or Mount Horeb. The mountain played a significant role in the spiritual developement of Moses. The Lord's presence on this peak came to symbolize divine protection. Paul uses Mount Sinai to symbolize the Old Testament. Mount Zion (or Sion in the KJV) was another favorite abode of God. Psalm 2:6 refers to Zion as "my (God's) holy hill", the "holy habitation of the Most High (Ps. 46:4), "Mount Zion which He loves", is where God "built his sanctuary like the high heavens (Ps 78:68-69), and Psalm 48:1-2 calls it His Holy mountain, beautiful in elevation. It is also where David's tomb is located and where the upper room of the last supper took place. On numerous occations it is referred to as a metaphor for security and protection (Ps 125). The New Testament continues this imagery using the term "heavenly Jerusalem" in reference to the church (Heb 12:22),and the gospel message (1Pet 2:6). In the New Testament it represents the newness of true worship and the "new Jerusalem" where Christ's redeemed will live with Him. John also states in Rev 14:1 that he looked and saw Christ standing with the 144,000. I would choose to live on Mt Zion for the reasons mentioned above. prayon |

1264 | What does the blood of Abel speak? | Heb 12:24 | prayon | 11534
Abel's blood cried for revenge, it was the blood of sin. Christ's blood cried for forgiveness. It is the blood of sacrifice. The ultimate sacrifice that gave us the new covenant, that is Christ shed His blood for us and our sin's.
1265 | When did His voice shake the earth? | Heb 12:26 | prayon | 11533
The only information I can find is He shook the earth at Sinai, however Solomon's temple was mentioned in the International Bible Commentary. According to the prophecy of Haggi (2:6) God now plans to shake the whole universe, so that only those things belonging to an unshakeable order may remain.
1266 | WHY COULDN'T THE RIGHTEOUS | Heb 13:2 | prayon | 20533
Greetings dltlshines, When Jesus says that we have fed him, gave him drink or welcomed Him He is referring to the acts of kindness that we do to others in whom he resides. As Hebrews says "by showing hospitality to strangers, we have entertained angels without knowing it" so also, do we entertain Jesus without knowing it because we never know whose heart he is living in. We do many acts of kindness that we do not remember doing or that we do unconsiously because we have the nature of Christ living in us. So it is with the righteous in this parable.
1267 | does God turn away from anyone? | Heb 13:5 | prayon | 18812
Greetings Little Helper and welcome to the forum! No God never turns His back on anyone. He is always there for anyone who asks Him to be. We can choose to turn our back on Him. I believe that when someone does turn their back on Him, he sheds a tear and then continues to put His messages in their pathway hoping to call them back into his flock. prayon |

1269 | Why is marijuana use prohibited? | Heb 13:17 | prayon | 68262
The law says that to smoke marijuana is illegal. God says we are to obey the laws that are set before us. Therefore, the verses below are where it states in the bible that marijuana use is prohibited. "Submit to the government and its officers" (Titus 3:1) "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves", Romans 13:1-2. prayon |

1271 | Building Endurance | James 1:2 | prayon | 171749
Greetings Jason, It means that whatever situation or trial we are in we should be joyful whether we are in that trial because of earthly things or whether we are in battle in the spiritual world. We should never be depressed or "down and out". God is instructing us to remain joyful in all situations. I have found that no matter how difficult the situation is, no matter what I am facing I can always find something to be joyful about and when I do that it makes the battle easier! prayon |

1273 | How much time spent on the Forum? | James 1:25 | prayon | 133734
Greetings Just me, I believe that being on the forum is the same as studying God's word. In order to answer the different questions that are posed you must research God's word to both correctly answer and provide scriptural back-up. I believe that you are spending too much time if you are neglecting the things that the Lord has entrusted to you such as providing for your family, your church, guiding and teaching your children. Hope this helps. prayon |

1274 | What is the law of liberty? | James 2:12 | prayon | 12007
As Christians we are saved by grace, not faith and not by keeping the old laws, but as Christians, we are required to obey Christ. God's grace does not cancel our duty to obey Him, it gives it a new basis. It is not longer an external set of rules but it a "law of liberty".
1275 | what about | James 2:14 | prayon | 58775
Greetings dasev, Mark 16:17 states: "and these signs will follow those who believe: In my name they will cast our demons; THEY WILL SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES; ....." The word never dies. It is still as strong today as it was then. prayon
1276 | how we ofend others with our mouths | James 3:3 | prayon | 33473
Greetings wkmaloff; The bible tells us that "the toungue gets out of control. They are restless and evil and always spreading deadly poison." James 3:8. "It only takes a spark to start a forest fire. The tongue is like a spark. It is an evil power that dirties the rest of the body and sets a person's entire life on fire with flames that come from hell itself." James (3:5b-7) We not only can offend others with our mouths but the bad words that come out of our mouths can make us unclean also (Matt 15:11). The words that come out of your mouth come from your heart. And they are what make you unfit to worship God (Matt 15:18). We must truly be careful of what we say at all times. We can hurt others with what comes out of our mouths. We can speak curses on others with our mouths. We can destroy a soul and we can even lead others away from God with our mouths. The words that come out of our mouth should always be acceptable to God and honor Him. prayon |

1277 | Is dressing like someone - submission | James 4:7 | prayon | 175289
Greetings and welcome to the forum! NO! Absolutely not! Submit: To yield, resign or surrender to the power, will or authority of another; with the reciprocal pronoun. Submission: 1. The act of submitting; the act of yielding to power or authority; surrender of the person and power to the control or government of another. 2. Obedience; compliance with the commands or laws of a superior. Submission of children to their parents is an indispensable duty. 3. Resignation; a yielding of one's will to the will or appointment of a superior without murmuring. Entire and cheerful submission to the will of God is a christian duty of prime excellence. (definitions from Websters Dictionary). We are to be obedient to the pastor and submit to the authority that God has placed in him. But submitting does not mean imitating or copying. The only person we are to imitate is Jesus Chirst (Eph 5:1) Hope his helps. prayon |

1278 | A woman of discretion embraces - | 1 Peter | prayon | 21798
smileysue, First Peter tells us that we must be submissive to the unbelieving husband so that he may be won over by our actions. Paul goes on to tell us in 1Cor 7:12-16 that we are not to divorce the unbelieving spouse because the husband is made holy through the believing wife and vice versa. In Isaiah 3 I dont believe you can count how many items they had. What the author was stressing was that the women of Judah had placed their emphasis on clothing and jewelry rather than God. They dressed to be noticed, to gain approval and to be fashionable. They were being self centered and self serving. smileysue, when you have quetions about more than 1 passage please put it in 2 different questions. It makes it easier to give a better answer. Thanks prayon |

When Rome burned by order of the emperor Nero and because of the persecution many of the Christians fled to other lands.
