841 | everyone saw the cloud and bowed down! | Ex 33:10 | prayon | 33652
Greetings Searcher! The pillar of cloud that came down was the presence of God. This is what the people bowed down to. The cloud was definitly needed because if the cloud had not been there all would of died because no one can see the presence of God and live. prayon
842 | everyone saw the cloud and bowed down! | Ex 33:10 | prayon | 33651
Greetings Jascott; The pillar of cloud that came down and stood at the entrance to the tent was the same pillar of cloud that led the Isrealites out of Egypt and through the wilderness - it was the presence of God. Exodus 33:20 tells us that no one can see God's face and live. Joshua, I believe, was left at the tent as sort of a guard to see that it was not disturbed. prayon |

843 | angels | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 33648
Greetings pgs, Angel means messenger. They are spiritual beings that serves God and supports mankind. They come fro God. According to Scripture, the angels were created before human beings; Job 38:7 tells of their presence at the creation of the universe. The bible also distinguishes between good and faithful angels and fallen angels or demons. Their main task is to serve God (Ps 103:21), to praise and glorify Him (148:2) and to join battle on His behalf (Gen e.g., Gen 19:1-29). There are accounts of angels throughout the bible. Most of the angels are not given names, two that are named however in the book of Daniel are Gabriel and Michael. prayon |

844 | Flow out of WHOSE innermost being? | John 7:38 | prayon | 33488
Greetings, In the previous verse the Lord cried out "If anyone thirsts let him come to me and drink." In the verse you are referring to the antecedent "his" is referring to the person who thirsts and goes to Christ for a drink of that living water. When he drinks in the water then out of his heart will flow more living water. The more we drink the greater our river will be. prayon
845 | Naomi's instructions to Ruth re: Boaz? | Ruth 3:4 | prayon | 33487
Greetings, You have picked a beautiful and powerful story to read. In the verses you are referring to Naomi is telling Ruth to act in accordance with the ancient Isrealite and New Eastern custom and law. It was common for the servant to lay at the feet of their master and even share a part of his covering. By observing this custom, Ruth would inform Boaz that he could be her kinsman - redeemer; that he could find someone to marry her or marry her himself. Since Boaz was a generation older than Ruth this overture would indicate Ruth's desire to marry Boaz herself, which the older gracious Boaz would not of initiated with a younger woman. What started out as family business ended up in a beautiful loving relationship that through the generations led to the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. prayon |

847 | What are generation curses? | Ex 20:5 | prayon | 33478
Greetings Beth, I agree with what srbaegon and jlpangilinan said but I wanted to add that it is important to remember that Moses promised us that God does not punish the children for the sins of their parents (Deut 24:16 and Eze 18:19-32), but as they said the children will feel the impact of breaches in God's laws. In addition a generational curse doesn't include only idolatry and such but can also include things like diaabetes, depression or any other thing that is "passed from one generation to the next". prayon |

848 | how we ofend others with our mouths | James 3:3 | prayon | 33473
Greetings wkmaloff; The bible tells us that "the toungue gets out of control. They are restless and evil and always spreading deadly poison." James 3:8. "It only takes a spark to start a forest fire. The tongue is like a spark. It is an evil power that dirties the rest of the body and sets a person's entire life on fire with flames that come from hell itself." James (3:5b-7) We not only can offend others with our mouths but the bad words that come out of our mouths can make us unclean also (Matt 15:11). The words that come out of your mouth come from your heart. And they are what make you unfit to worship God (Matt 15:18). We must truly be careful of what we say at all times. We can hurt others with what comes out of our mouths. We can speak curses on others with our mouths. We can destroy a soul and we can even lead others away from God with our mouths. The words that come out of our mouth should always be acceptable to God and honor Him. prayon |

849 | Adonay or Adoni in Ps 110:1 | Ps 110:1 | prayon | 33202
Greetings, According to the Eerdman's Bible Dictionary Adonai ia a divine name gennerally translated to mean "the Lord". At one time it became a substitute for the unspeakable name of God. The Masorites wrote the vowels of this name with the consonants of the name Yahweh (yhwh), indicating to the reader it was pronounced Adonay. In either spelling it refers to one person - "The Lord". prayon

851 | felled tree Isaiah 11:1 | Is 11:1 | prayon | 33004
Greetings Lightning56, Verses 11-9 talk about how Assyria would be like a tree cut down at the height of its power. Judah, the royal line of David, would be like a tree chopped to its stump. But out of that stump a new branch would grow. The branch would be Jesus. He would be greater than the original tree and would bear much fruit. (Life Appl Bible commentary). prayon

856 | Why the Old and New Testament? | Bible general Archive 1 | prayon | 31925
They are both connected and seperate. They are connected in the fact that they are the word of God. They are seperated in the fact that the OT is before Jesus and the NT is Jesus life on. We read both for a number of reasons. One is that to understand why things were said or done in the NT we must read the OT. For example, why did Jesus have to die on the cross in order for us to be set free? You can find the answer in Leviticus 17. Proof that Jesus life and death were also foretold in the OT (particularly in Isaiah chapter 53) telling us that He was the promised Messiah. The history of the nation of Isreal is also found throughout the OT which tells us a lot of how and why the Isrealites were the way they were. I have come to understand the NT much better after studying the OT. prayon |

857 | Will unbelievers be raised from Sheol? | Rev 21:8 | prayon | 31917
I still think that you have grouped together the unbelievers (thosse who have heard and don't believe) with those who have never heard. We are not referring to the unbelievers. prayon
858 | Will unbelievers be raised from Sheol? | Rev 21:8 | prayon | 31757
Joe Revelations says "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars"; what happens to those who were none of these? You can not believe in what you have never heard about or know nothing of. If you had never been told about God, knew nothing of Him, or never seen a bible how are you to believe? I believe that if those who have never heard live a moral life God judges that. The above scripture you quoted states that "because that which is known to them". God is referring here to the ones who knew but didn't believe. We are talking of people who have not been made known not those who had the opportunity to listen but didn't. Our God is a merciful God - I can't believe he would condemn those who never had the opportunity to hear of Him if they lived an upright, godly life style.
859 | Will unbelievers be raised from Sheol? | Rev 21:8 | prayon | 31740
Greetings, The way it was explained to me by someone is this was. If one never had the opportunity to be told of the one true God then God will judge them on their life. Whether they ever heard of the gospel or not they would still have a conscious. Did the person live by that conscious or were they a person without morals? Our God is a just God. He would not judge someone for not accepting Him if they had never had the opportunity to hear about Him. prayon
