81 | is masterbation a sin explain thxs | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 47773
SERENETIME- I can't figure out what the big question is here. God made man and woman to complement each other. He also states it is better to marry than to burn (with passion). There is nothing saying anything that solo sex is alright or an alternative. It also gives guidelines for not having sex with your spouse. There are cravings the body has and if let loose can gain control. The Lord always leaves a way out - usually prayer and turning to him. Sexual pleasure was made for one thing - to bring a man and wife closer together and for propagation. That is the ONLY place sex is acceptable. And yes, the bible says it is sin, not specifically, but it doesn't have too. Not for someone who truly wants to follow the Lord's will and not look for a way out of it. Debbie |

82 | Can anyone answer these simple questions | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 48411
luvconquers- It is a shame what atrocities are done in the name of religion - not just Christianity but all religions. But you have to look at the fruits of what people are doing to see how they stand in their faith. Christ preached love, God is a God of love and justice, patience and longsuffering. You have to read His word and look at the recurring theme. He sent His only Son to die the most horrible of deaths so you and I could stand righteous before Him, if we accept the sacrifice He made. We are to be like Him. He loved us, no matter what. Can we do anything less to others? Anyone that teaches or acts any different is not true to the Word of God or to what Jesus taught. It is their works that will tell you if they are true to what they confess to be. I am a Christian. I try to mold my life after Christ's. I am also human and fail, but I repent of my failures and, with God's help, will come a little closer to where God wants me to be tomorrow. I do know, the promises He makes me in His word are true. He gives peace. He gives joy. He gives strength. And He gives the ability to forgive. He also gives the ability to love - no matter what is done to me, and in being able to pray for and love (now I did not say "like"!), I have found my perception of others has changed. I don't know if this helps. I wish I could talk to you. But your bitterness and anger will only grow like fire. Those were not Christian you were talking about, but Satan sure used them to get you and others to question and rail at those who are. Just what he wanted. If I can help, please E-mail me at the address given in my profile with "forum" in the subject line. I pray that God will show Himself to you for what He truly is. I pray that He will give you peace and love and the joy that only He can give, for He is the author of it. Debbie |

83 | Feel so lonely and down over this burden | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 59133
Mae64- Don't make any hasty decisions aobut church attendance right now. When under stress, you don't know ir it will be the right one. Keep attending. Look to God. Then I would find out if the pastor even knew about the situation. Call him. Talk to him. Tell him your feelings. It sounds as if you have some caring people in your church. Are there any of them you could ask to pray with you and open your heart to? If after all this, you still feel that your pastor was not there when the need was so great and that he could have been, maybe it is time to look around. But give it time! Pray! Forgive! And then look at the situation when the times have evened out and they will even out. Remember, when we are the weakest and feel we are at the end of the rope, we see find it is Jesus holding on to the other end. He will give you strength. We may not see HIs hand now, but we will later. God bless you and give you peace. Debbie |

84 | Why r some people mentally ill? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 59134
Makarios gave some good examples for you. However, I do not discount the idea that demonic possesion is not a part of some of the cases today. Of special concern are those that have dabbled in the occult - which our culture in the U.S. seems to be promoting and making it seem innocent. I do think there are more than some would want to think and less than some would have you think. But the best answer on a general scale could be answered with the question "why do some people have heart disease, etc.?" God's peace. Debbie |

85 | Is it a sin for women to wear pants? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 59564
What a person wears is not stated, only that the "women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation...." in 1 Timothy 2:9. The whole point being, women should not dress in such a way as to bring unwholesome (?) attention to themselves. Debbie |

86 | divorce negates marriage? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 59743
I am going to take a stab at this. I think that the offended spouse, if the reason for the divorce was because of her spouse's infidelity, is not obligated to receive the other, should they decide to return. If the injured spouse would choose to remarry, it would be permitted. However, I believe it is in Malachi 2:16 where it is stated "I hate divorce" so if it is possible for the one injured to forgive and to be able to trust again to return to the marriage. If after the divorce, one or the other remarried someone else or had an affair, it would be considered fornication so the marriage would be broken. I do know that even in cases that look hopeless, marriages can be rebuilt stronger than ever. A person I know had her husband cheat on her after 18 years of a marriage that she thought was "ideal". She was in an apartment and was ready to sell her house when she decided to give her husband the forgiveness he sought. I can report their marriage is now as strong as it ever was, if not stronger. But it takes a brokeness on both sides for it to succeed. Debbie |

88 | LEFT BEHIND? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 60131
Praise God, Susan!!!! There are at least 12 - I have 11 of them. Yes, it is good fiction. I can't wait for 12. How much is based on fact? I would say none. After all, we have enough speculations with "experts" to back up our different views as to the end times just among we friends at the "forum"! Fact maybe as to the order of things happening - we know the first bowl comes before the second, etc. But it is good fiction, there could be a possibility that it would all go that way, but to give it to someone and say _ this is what you are in for if you don't accept Jesus? - Nah! Love to you all- Deb |

91 | Is praying to created beings scriptural? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 62751
Emmaus- You could ask anyone to pray for you. However we were specificaly told to pray for each other. Old Uncle Bob, even if he is with the Lord, is not omnipresent, and if you think he can hear every prayer request you and every other person who may ask him to ask the Lord for a favor for you as his own personal request, you are giving him the power that only God has, and, specifically, the role that Jesus has with the Father. My mother passed away not too long ago. Do I believe she is "watching over me?" If she is, then the glory of the Lord must not be too impressive. Also the angels must not be doing their jobs. The angels have always been the ones to do the Lord's bidding, not those who have died. And they can't be in two places at one time, according to scripture. Can they hear more than one person praying at one time? How many churches are praying to Micahel? How many individuals? Which one is he standing by to hear it? Again, they are not God. To understand why it doesn't make sense to pray to anyone other than God, a good example would be if someone came to my husband and asked him if I had any thread that he could use. My husband wouldn't have a clue where it was and so would not have the power to get it for them. Now if that person came to me directly, I could get it for him, or give him a yes or no. What sense would it make not to go directly to the throne of grace and make our request known? We are to be bold, not go around every way, not trusting the Lord to know His own mind. I am sorry if I sound harsh. I just feel I was mislead for many years. Debbie |

92 | Is praying to created beings scriptural? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 62773
If what you are proposing is true, then she is always here and can hear everything I say and do. Even if I do something that would make God displeased, she sees that. Would that not cause her pain? I thought scripture says there is no pain in Heaven? The only ones we know of that scripture tells us about, who died and who returned and we know thier reactions was Samuel (give me others, if I missed any)and he was not happy about it, nor did he show any concern about his relatives here on earth. I don't know how those in Heaven view us living, I think their joy is just to be in the glory of the Lord. When we join them, they will remember and recognize us, but anything we have done on this earth will be as nothing to them, the hurt we have gone through or have caused will not be known to them. The joy will be that there will be one more worshipping God truly in spirit and in truth. Anyway, all this is moot, seeing as scripture can tell us nothing concrete about this. I do resent the time that is spent praying to others when it could be time praying to God and being in His presence and developing a closer relationship with Him. Debbie |

94 | Where does this story come from? | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 65065
This is an excellent book (written by Phillip Keller) but I do not recall anything about breaking a lamb's leg. However, I can see how that could be used in relating to what the Lord could do to us. If a shepherd has a lamb that is continually straying and other's are following it, in order to save it's life, a broken leg would limit it's mobility, even after it healed. Doesn't the Lord do that to us sometimes? If we are involved in hurtful practices or have other sins in our lives that He wants to remove from us in order to use us - this could be pride, lust, etc.- He could allow a very painful situation to arise that would remove us from this sin so that we could live and ultimatly reap the joys of being in closer fellowship with Him. 98 | Brother's harsh letter - re: Mormon | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 71992
dat- I love 1 Cor. chapter 7. I have kind of been in your mess, divorced twice, and i know the forgiveness the Lord has. You have already repented of the divorce and acknowledged that it was wrong. That was the first step. Now it is time to move on. I am also married to a man, who although is Christian in the denominational sense of the word, does not understand the personal relationship of being a Christian. This is just as hard. However, since I gave my life to the Lord, repented of what I had done in my past and gave the future to Him, I have seen miracles happen in my life in my husband. It has not been easy, but trying ot live the way the Lord wants me to live, showing His love to my husband has worked changes him. By your actions, you may be working with the Lord to change your husband and bring him to a saving relationship with the Lord. I agree with EdB. Talk to your pastor. And read the bible and PRAY, PRAY, PRAY! Debbie |

Ok, Steve- Now that you have me thoroughly confused, when did Ahaz see that first "virgin birth"? I think I read there was some worship at that time of a "god" that was supposed to have been virgin born. Is that what you are referring to, or am I even more confused than I thought? Debbie |

100 | Finding 'Act as though you have faith' | Bible general Archive 1 | glory777 | 72399
Steve- As I have gone through and read this mess of a thread, i am reminded of Pharoah. No matter what proof he had laid on him, he refused to believe and his heart was hardened. I believe we are seeing a lot of this right here in the forum. In the last days people will turn away from the truth, scripture will be made out to be what they want it to be and, as we all can see, aften 1 is an example of this. I will not post further to someone who is not a true Christian and whose only desire is to lead others away from Jesus Christ - our Lord and God.The purpose of this forum is to help Christians understand scripture, not to twist it. Adding fuel to the fire is not helping. Aften 1 refuses to say what denomination, if any, he is affiliated with. If this is one of the teachings of it, it is not bible oriented and as such, he should not be here. Debbie |
