41 | Are there foods that are unclean to eat? | NT general Archive 1 | benjamite | 43433
First, let me say that I agree with your interpretation of Mark 7:15. Let me also point you to a couple of other passages. Considering that the Mosaic Law was given to the Jews, this is the instruction for Gentiles: Acts 15:19 "Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood." See 1 Corinthians 8, regarding what has been sacrificed to idols. Also, read Acts 10:10-16. Although that passage seems to use the food to symbolize people, (see Acts 10:28) I think we might still be able to apply it to actual food. I hope this helps. In Him, Benjamite |

42 | gap between Gensis 1:1 and Gensis 1:2 | Gen 1:1 | benjamite | 40480
There are some who, due to the apparent age of the earth, see a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. They hold to a literal 6 day "recreation", but see another existence as being possible. For a more detailed explanation, I'm using "Gap Theory" by A.F. Johnson from _The_Evangelical_Dictionary_of_Theology, (ed. Walter A. Elwell, c. 2001, Baker; Grand Rapids). "All the needed geologic ages in earth's pre-Adamic history may be found either between 1:1 and 1:2 or during 1:2." Some who have held this view are: Episcopius (d. 1643), J.G. Rosenmuller (d. 1815). In recent centuries men like Thomas Chalmers, William Buckland, John Pye Smith, J.H. Kurtz, G.H. Pember, Harry Rimmer, and H.C. Thiessen held this view. It is also in the First edition of the _Scofield Reference Bible_ (1909). The Bibliography on the entry is as follows: O.T. Allis, _God_Spake_by_Moses; Bernard Ramm, _Christian_View_of_Science_and_Scripture; D.A. Young, _Christianity_and_the_Age_of_the_Earth. I hope this information helps. In Him, Benjamite |

43 | Did God really want animal sacrifices? | Gen 4:4 | benjamite | 37702
Did you say animal sacrifice? How about this verse? (Another question - where do the skins of Genesis 3:21 come from?) Also, Obedience is better than sacrifice, it is true. However the Bible clearly states that there is none who is righteous (Romans 3:10). All have fallen short of God's glory. Read Leviticus 1, note that the first verse says that the LORD is telling Moses about the sacrifices (the proper way to do it). I hope this helps, Benjamite |

44 | Gifts to God or substitutes for sin? | Gen 4:4 | benjamite | 37725
I tend to disagree about Genesis 4. Note that both brothers gave out of their livelihood. Abel's gift was accepted. Cain's was not. It is my hunch that, in regards to sacrifices, there were some guidelines in place even at that time. Abel followed these. Cain did not. You might make the argument that Cain's problem was only his attitude, and because Cain and Abel did not sin in the same way that their parents did, they were not guilty at all. I think Cain's wrong attitude was reflected in his wrong action. I find it interesting that in Genesis 3:21, the Lord made garments of skin for Adam and Eve, but it never says what happened to the animals. Where did these come from? Here's my point: there are some things that happened back then that we aren't told.(e.g., What kind of animal died to provide clothing for Adam and Eve? or When did God tell Cain and Abel not to murder? Murder was wrong back then, but we are never told that it was.) Although the Mosaic Law was not yet given, we know that God did give some instructions - "don't eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil". In Genesis 6:5,"...the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." (NASB) They were wicked - they did things contrary to God's desire. From Adam to Moses, Death reigned. (Romans 5:14). Sin needs to be covered for people to come to God. That's what Abel's sacrifice did, and Cain's did not. |

45 | Where did God ask for sacrifices? | Gen 8:20 | benjamite | 37703
Could or should? For regulations (that man should, and how he should), start reading at Leviticus 1:1 and continue reading for a few chapters. :-) The thing is, the first 5 books of the Bible were penned by Moses, so we have the record of God telling him how to sacrifice the animals. (God may have told Abel, Noah, Abraham, etc. specifically how to sacrifice, but I don't believe it is recorded.) Also read Hebrews 9. I'm sure there are many other places to look, but these chapters should get you started. In Him, Benjamite |

46 | Moses Circumcised? | Exodus | benjamite | 32082
1. In Exodus 4:25, Moses' wife, Zipporah, circumcises their son. 2. From Joshua 5:5, "For all the people who came out (of Egypt) were circumcised, but all the people who were born in the wilderness along the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised." Under Joshua, the nation was again circumcised (same chapter). |

47 | Moses Circumcised? | Exodus | benjamite | 32130
1. We don't know which son, for sure. We might assume, from the context of "Israel is My son, My first-born", Ex 4:22, that it is the eldest son. 2. Was Moses circumcised? Yes. When? Presumably on the 8th day, Gen 17:11-12. Why is this probable? At this point, Moses was in the care of his mother, Ex 2:2. The Jews, according to Joshua 5:5, were circumcised before they came out of Egypt. When did Moses come out of Egypt? It happened sometime before then. Moses' when and where, i.e., geographic location: 8th day, Goshen. In Exodus 4, one of the sons is circumcised, Ex 4:25. That leaves the other son. At the very latest, he was circumcised in Joshua 5:3-5, at Gibeath-haaraloth. |

48 | Did Pharoah drown in the Red Sea? | Ex 14:23 | benjamite | 38779
Exodus 14:23 is probably as close as you'll come. Was Pharaoh in with the rest of his army? I think so. See also 14:30. In Him, Benjamite |

49 | Joshua 5:10, what date is that? | Josh 5:10 | benjamite | 35909
I'm not an expert in dating, as far as exact date. The Passover is in the spring (right around Easter - March or April). I usually date these events from the time of the Exodus (c. 1446 BC). 1446 BC - 40 years in the wilderness (BC counts backwards) so that would put us right around 1400BC. This is the third recorded Passover (cf. Exodus 12 and Numbers 9). Is that what you were looking for, or were you wanting something more specific? In Him, Benjamite |

50 | My question is did Solomon die in or out | 1 Kings | benjamite | 33430
We must add another verse to "muddy the water" a little. Nehemiah 13:26 says, "Did not Solomon king of Israel sin regarding these things? Yet among the many nations there was no king like him, and he was loved by his God, and God made him king over all Israel; nevertheless the foreign women caused even him to sin." God loved Solomon, despite what all Solomon did. I guess this speaks more of God's specific relationship with Solomon (instead of the other way around), but I thought it deserved mentioning. 51 | Only satan has evil/deceptive spirits | Job 1:6 | benjamite | 48270
Even Satan, himself, cannot act apart from the permission of God. Job 1:6-12; Job 2:1-6.
52 | Is sarcasm sinful? | Job 38:1 | benjamite | 63404
Is God being sarcastic in Job 38? It seems like it to me. Again in Amos 4:4-5, God is telling the people to "Come and sin". Is that really what He wants? No, but he knows that's what they will do. How about 2 Cor. 11:19? To paraphrase, Paul says, "You're so wise, but your friends are fools." Sarcasm is not sinful. Truth is more than just the words we say, it is how we say it. |

53 | I smell fire | Job 41:19 | benjamite | 56808
Perhaps, at one time, dragons really did exist. Maybe it was a type of dinosaur (if you'll allow for the possibility that the scientists are wrong and that dinosaurs and man actually co-existed). Now the question is, were all the stories of knights going off to fight dragons true? At this point in time, it seems to me that it is anybody's guess as to what these beasts really were - but no, they don't seem like gators to me, either. I, personally, don't have a problem believing that dragons did exist or that man and dinosaurs co-existed. Ben |

54 | READ ALL THAT YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON! | Ps 18:1 | benjamite | 48281
I like the imagery used here. One of God's own is distressed. When God's own person calls to Him, God acts mightily. God is permitted to be angry, is He not? Romans 1:18-32. He most certainly is. Knowledge is great. It must be accompanied by the fear of the Lord and love. Proverbs 2:5-6; 1 Corinthians 13:1-2. Without these, "Knowledge makes arrogant." 1 Corinthians 8:1 |

55 | "to spare the rod is to spoil the child" | Prov 13:24 | benjamite | 36482
I'm afraid that Proverbs 13:24 is about as close as I can get. I had to look this one up too. Apparently the familiar quote came from some other source. Perhaps Ben Franklin. :-) In Him, Benjamite |

56 | Does this talk about enslavement? | Is 60:12 | benjamite | 46210
Let's take this verse in context: v. 1, "The glory of the LORD has risen upon you." v. 2, "The LORD will rise upon you, and His glory will appear upon you" v. 9, "Surely the coastlands will wait for Me; And the ships of Tarshish will come first, to bring your sons from afar...for the name of the LORD your God, and for the Holy One of Israel because He has glorified you." This isn't slavery, at least in the sense of the early American atrocities. Granted it might be "paying tribute". This was (and is still) common. (I don't know where you hail from, in the U.S., April 15 was Tax Day.) Let's look at it from another way. Is there anything in this passage which suggests that this finds its fulfillment at any other time than during the future reign of Christ on earth (the millennium)? I don't think so. I see this as being fulfilled when the Almighty God, in the person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, is here on earth as King. Now the question is, if you're not serving God, what are you doing? Who are you serving? |

57 | Does this talk about enslavement? | Is 60:12 | benjamite | 46397
You're welcome. I'm not sure this is the most convincing line of argument, but perhaps the Lord will use it. God Bless, Benjamite |

58 | IT'S NOT GOD SPEAKING, IT'S THE DECEIVER | Jer 19:5 | benjamite | 48268
There is a difference between a carnivore and a scavenger. In this passage, eating the flesh of their sons and daughters is never called a good thing. Remember from verse 5 of that chapter, the rebellious people are already sacrificing their children to idols. God NEVER commanded them to do this. Trust the Bible, question all else. However, since you would question the Bible, how do you know that God is "wonderful, giving, and caring"? Are you using your own definitions of these words or God's definitions? |

59 | SATAN HAS THE MASSES FOOLED, WAKEUP! | Ezek 14:9 | benjamite | 48274
Righteous prophets would not be "deceived" in such a manner. The people were told to repent and get rid of their idols. The people knew this. The prophets knew this. The Lord says that those who do not, and who still try to come to Him, will be punished.
