2162 | What about song of Soloman? | 1 John 2:16 | azurelaw | 184366
Dear Orange, Many have given you biblical and sounded advice. However, may I add a little bit of my thought to your struggle. I wonder did God ever mention the ideal body weight and size in his creation of Adam and Eve. So, where did you get the standard of the ideal good shape? Are we so much affected by the worldly standard that we do not realize? Yes, God created things that are good and beautiful to the eyes. But that does not justify our being greedy like what Eve did. However, when it is a concern on the health problem, that would be another issue. We are responsible for keeping our body in good shape (I mean HEALTHY). If you are facing the problem of overweight that risk your health, yes, you need to deal (but the priority should be your spiritual well being) with it as well. (At this point, dear fellow members of the SBF, please bear with me this time concerning my below suggestion to this gentleman in tackling the overweight problem. I understand this is a study bible forum not a site of weight control) Orange, you should be well aware of the rules of a balanced diet together with exercise. However, if you fail to do exercise, you may try the food pyramid. Yes, everybody knows it. In fact, I am suggesting a meal pyramid. It is easy, just reallocate the portion of your every meal. Breakfast: The biggest portion of the day. Lots of vegetables and fruits, reasonable amount of rice or pasta or bread (carbohydrate), some meat (protein) Lunch: Half the amount of breakfast. Food can remain the same as breakfast. Dinner: One third of the breakfast would be ideal. If not, start with two fifth the amount of breakfast. You can eat vegetables and fruits and some meat (it would be ideal to skip meat if possible) as well. But NO carbohydrate food. Also note that the sequence of intake of food for every meal should be: Vegetables and fruits should be eaten first, then bread, pasta, grains next. Meat, egg, milk, etc should be the last. Remember to start your morning with a glass of WARM water. Please try that out. You do not have to starve your wife and yourself. :) My apology again to Lockman and other fellow members of SBF for the above content without any scriptural reference and is out of the context of bible study. :( Shalom Azure |

2164 | What would make this allogory? | 1 John 3:2 | azurelaw | 214137
Dear Bibleman, John and Doc I have to admit that I only realized who Watchman Nee is when I read about your posts and (by curiosity) check on the web this afternoon for his Chinese name which is very familiar with me and has gained a great reputation among Chinese Christian circles historically. Based ONLY on what I have known about his famous name, I have not considered him being viewed as a cult, and for this I am pretty surprised. What I know about Watchman Nee is just his name. Neither have I read about him nor any of his books. So, I may claim that knowledge-wise, I would not have any bias for or against him or his teaching. Yet, since he is a Chinese christian, I sentimentally hope that he would not be classified as heresy or cult. I think I should get either one of his books (The CHINESE edition of The Normal Christian Life or The Spiritual Man) to read for my better discernment :-) However, for the time being, I have googled and read about his testimony and a brief critque or commentary of Nee's theology (they are Chinese articles). Here are my temporal findings: 1/ His testimony It shows a great tendency and stress on feeling, special indvidual revelation from God and personal experience. This leads me to association him with charismatic and mysticism. However, it is also interesting to see, in his testimony, what he had experienced was the result of his total dependence and faith in God as he claimed. Another interesting thing is: when I also read some of his poems or short poetic diary writings in the supplement, I found them pretty biblical and scripturally grounded. 2/ Nee's theology (a brief analysis) The writer mentioned that Nee's proposition of the hirachical relationship of the pluralsim (correct term? please correct me if wrong) - spirit, soul and body - is unbiblical and too radical or extreme. Rooted in this theology concerning the spirit, soul and body, Nee limited a Christian's self-denial process onto the "soul". This is a narrowed view and ignores the fact that spirit and soul are unseparable. Another problem of Nee's teaching is his view on local church planting and its polity. Nee insisted one church one region and he strongly refuted and rejected denominationalism, thus caused more division instead of better unity. The above is just a bit of my findings and I definitely need to search more. Shalom Azure (a Chinese sister in Christ) |

2169 | Crying out loud Lord rescue me | 1 John 5:13 | azurelaw | 200181
Dear irene (blue.eyes), I am terribly sorry that you felt it negatively. Kindly understand and re-read the terms of use of the forum. Cheri has made the point to you that citing scriptural support is needed. We are taught to accurately handling the word of truth (2 Tim 2:15). My previous post would hope that you may clarify your statement "...i suggest to you to claim his word and take 1 text from his word and say everyday and you w ill see the difference..." as it could be misleading to advise that just picking any text from the Bible and recite it everyday in hoping to change things (I hope this is only my misunderstanding of what you said ). I don't doubt you have God in your heart, praise the Lord that you love Him so dearly; but I do hope that we can handle His Word properly and accurately so that we may grow in Him and are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming (Eph 4:14) My sincere apology for making you feel bad or misreading you (if it be the case). Shalom Azure |

2171 | Anything asked will be given | 1 John 5:14 | azurelaw | 202331
Dear Ian, Welcome to the forum. "Many people view an “answered prayer” as God granting a prayer request that is offered to Him. If a prayer request is not granted, it is often understood as an unanswered prayer. However, this an incorrect understanding of prayer. God answers every prayer that is lifted to Him. What we have to remember is that sometimes God answers "no" or "wait." God only promises to grant our prayers when we ask according to His will. 1 John 5:14-15 tells us, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of Him.” What does it mean to pray according to God’s will? Praying according to God’s will is praying for things that honor and glorify God and/or praying for things the Bible clearly reveals it is God’s will for us to have. If we pray for something that is not honoring to God or not God’s will for our lives, God will not give what we ask for. How can we know what God’s will is? God promises to give us wisdom when we ask for it. James 1:5 proclaims, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.” Familiarize yourself with what the Bible says about God’s will for your life. The better we understand God’s Word, the better we will know what to pray for. The better we know what to pray for, the more effective our prayer lives will be." - David Jeremiah To read more questions on prayer, you may go to : http://www.gotquestions.org Shalom Azure |

2174 | does someone know what it means. | 2 John | azurelaw | 238984
Dear Julie, John started this chapter with blessing emphasising on the truth that he wanted the readers to be mindful. As you may read through the whole chapter, you will find that while John urged them to love one another, this commandment should be exercised in truth, for Christ is the Truth (John 14:6). Love that exercised in truth is not "blind love" (see verse 10). From the context, John worried about the readers be deceived by false teaching(verse 7-11) and led away to reject the teaching that Christ came in flesh. Hope the above is helpful. Shalom Azure |

2178 | Why did God cast Lucifer out of heaven? | Jude 1:6 | azurelaw | 242407
Dear LiKiMa, Welcome to the forum. Those questions you asked sound like homework question and you have already answered your own question by asking "why did Lucifer disobey God" :-) Fallen angel sinned that's why they are punished (2 Peter 2:4). Jude 1:6 explains how did they sin. Angels are created as ministering spirits (Hebrew 1:14). Thus Jude 1:6 implies that they are not doing their own job but rebel against God. Shalom Azure |
