Dear EdB, Thank you very much for your explanation. See how a word spelled differently could cause unnecessary misunderstanding! I should also be mindful of myself for making the same problem. Thank you again. Shalom Azure |

1782 | Christ honoring position: wine/alcohol | 1 Cor 10:31 | azurelaw | 193251
Dear pastor63, Welcome to the forum. 1/ Drinking alcoholic beverage is not sin. John 2:1-10, Jesus changed water into wine at a wedding. Mat 11:19 Jesus rebuked the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. 1 Tim 5:23 Paul advised Timonthy to drink some wine for health's sake. 2/ Become drunk is sin. Rom 13:13 1 Cor 5:11 Gal 5:21 1 Cor 6:10 Eph 5:18 3/ Most importantly is that we should honour God and stumble not our brothers of less faith. Rom 14:21 1 Cor 10:31 Since the topic has been discussed before, you might want to do a word search for past thread. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

1783 | Should Women Wear Hats? | 1 Cor 11:4 | azurelaw | 204257
Dear Tamara, Mat 22:27-39 I believe what Paul taught would never be outside of the 2 great commandments. If wearing hats is observed as a moral issue according to the above scripture, you make your judgment on whether to wear it or not. I am also sure that you know God measures us by our hearts and motive, too. Just my 2 cents. It might be answering your question satisfactorily, but it is how I view the subject - whatever we do, do for the glory of our Lord. Shalom Azure |

1785 | Should Women Wear Hats? | 1 Cor 11:4 | azurelaw | 209218
Dear pooterputter, Opinion bears value when it is in accord with God's Word. I think the Bereans are good examples for us to follow in the course of how to deal with teachings we received. Acts 17:10 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Acts 17:11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so. 1789 | Am I ignorant | 1 Cor 12:1 | azurelaw | 212120
The Holy Word says: 2 Tim 3:1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 Tim 3:2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 2 Tim 3:3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 2 Tim 3:4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 2 Tim 3:5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. 2 Tim 3:13 But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. 2 Tim 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 2 Tim 3:17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. |

1792 | unsaved in ministry | 1 Cor 12:1 | azurelaw | 227866
Dear Lady, Brother Steve has given you a fine answer. I would like you to also consider another passage Leviticus 10:1-3 Lev 10:1 Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took their respective firepans, and after putting fire in them, placed incense on it and offered strange fire before the LORD, which He had not commanded them. Lev 10:2 And fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died before the LORD. Lev 10:3 Then Moses said to Aaron, "It is what the LORD spoke, saying, 'By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored.'" So Aaron, therefore, kept silent. See how God is zealous about His holiness and glory even His priests were not allowed to make offering whenever/whatever/however as they wish. Shalom Azure |

1793 | Gos Can Speak! | 1 Cor 12:3 | azurelaw | 219284
Dear teacher..., I don't quite get your point, sir. Of course God can speak and idols can't! The verse 1 Cor 12:3 you quote made a contrast between the true conversion to Christ (only by the Holy Spirit that one can say Jesus is Lord) and the denial of Christ (one that was without the Holy Spirit's work in him/her and claimed that Jesus is accursed). So, the point is not whether God can speak, but how God speaks and how He validates the converted to profess their faith. Could you please elaborate further? Thank you. Shalom Azure |

1794 | If we have any knowledge | 1 Cor 12:7 | azurelaw | 181927
Dear Steve, First of all, greetings to you and wish you a wonderfully blessed New Year. I love your note. I will save it in my file. It reminds me of how I stumbled and failed in the past due to my own arrogant and ignorant. However, my loving God did not forsake me but dealt me. It was really painful but totally out of His grace and love. 11 Heb 12:5-6 "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him; for those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom he receives." 1795 | gifts of Healing and Miracles for today. | 1 Cor 12:9 | azurelaw | 187239
Dear CDBJ, I agree. In addition, I would like to quote James 5:14-15 Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in FAITH will restore the one who is sick, and the LORD will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him. You must be baptized before serving in the choir ministry. Is this requirement biblical?
1798 | Baptized before serving in choir | 1 Cor 12:13 | azurelaw | 183195
My hearty thanks to both of you Bradk and CDBJ. I have just newly taken up the deacon post in handling the Sunday ministry section at my church. I have to be incharge of (this might not be the proper wordings) all things concerning Sunday service operation or administration which include choir arrangements (we have 3 choirs). I am reviewing the choir member entry system. I remember more than 20 years ago our church had the requirement of baptized choir members. I did not know if it was biblical or not at that time for I was still young by then. Since now, it is my responsibilities to review the system, I want to clarify this. Meanwhile, in David's time when he set up the choir, was there any specific thing in association with the idea of baptizing in the NT time? Thanks and Shalom Azure N.B.: Please also pray for me concerning my new ministry. |

1799 | Baptized before serving in choir | 1 Cor 12:13 | azurelaw | 183288
Thanks CDBJ. I agree with you that there is no point for a true believer not to be baptised whenever it is possible. I trust that no one in our church would be baptized solely or partly for the reason of being a choir member. What about children choir? We have a children choir. Some did not receive infant baptising. (Though there is no scriptural support for infant baptising). Is it that their parents hold accountable for them so as to decide the children be involved in the music ministry? Thanks. Shalom Azure |

1800 | Baptized before serving in choir | 1 Cor 12:13 | azurelaw | 183296
Dear Brother Doc, Thanks for your godly advice which I always value. You might have read my follow up note to brother CDBJ. You say: In some churches it is not uncommon to actually hire professional musicians for worship services, without concern for their personal relationship with God. Our church is very traditional and will not consider such kind of arrangement except for skill training. However, we have observed a few choir members (these young men/ladies are grown up in our church and are pretty gifted in music) diverted the service focus a bit with the tendency of self-centre (in other words - pride). Our elders and I are considering how to give proper guidance for adjustment. May I conclude that a choir member should be a baptized christian under the notion that a true believer will follow the Lord's instruction to be baptized. Concerning children choir member, I really don't know if there is any specific scripture for reference. However, I think I might get some clues from the below instances: Our Lord's concern on children: Matt 19:13 Then some children were brought to Him so that He might lay His hands on them and pray; and the disciples rebuked them. 26 Matt 19:14 But Jesus said, "Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." The little boy was willing to serve and contribute: John 6:9 There is a little boy here, who has [with him] five barley loaves, and two small fish; but what are they among so many people? Again, thank you all (Bradk, CDBJ, Doc, Justme, Jeff) who have helped me on the issue. God bless you all. Shalom Azure |
