1761 | Christ honoring position: wine/alcohol | 1 Cor 10:31 | azurelaw | 193251
Dear pastor63, Welcome to the forum. 1/ Drinking alcoholic beverage is not sin. John 2:1-10, Jesus changed water into wine at a wedding. Mat 11:19 Jesus rebuked the hypocrisy of the Pharisees. 1 Tim 5:23 Paul advised Timonthy to drink some wine for health's sake. 2/ Become drunk is sin. Rom 13:13 1 Cor 5:11 Gal 5:21 1 Cor 6:10 Eph 5:18 3/ Most importantly is that we should honour God and stumble not our brothers of less faith. Rom 14:21 1 Cor 10:31 Since the topic has been discussed before, you might want to do a word search for past thread. Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

1764 | Will God put on us more than we can bear | 1 Cor 10:13 | azurelaw | 193182
Dear ashelton, I believe most people make use of 1 cor 10:13 to convey the idea that God will not put more on us than we can bear. You have already noticed that this scripture talked about temptation. Temptations are also trials (in other sense) for believers to grow. But God does not tempt us (James 1:12-14). He makes use of our weaknesses to show His power and glory (2 Cor 12:9). Hope the above helpful. Shalom Azure |

1765 | What was the point of the temptation ? | Matt 4:1 | azurelaw | 193160
Dear Jesusman, Greetings to you, brother. I have to admit in my opinion, you have asked a good, but heavy question. Hope the dicussion would not fall into the tempter's hands to be argumentative, but instead we are blessed by God to learn more and be edified. In reading the interesting dicussion, I have attempted to make a search on the subject and found an aritcle in the below site which I think should be helpful for us to understand the issue. Hope you would take some time to visit. Shalom Azure http://www.apostolic.net/biblicalstudies/temptationofchrist.htm |

1770 | how to deal with jealousy | John 13:34 | azurelaw | 193017
Dear Itrummer, Welcome to the forum. I believe Gal 5:19-26 is helpful to answer your question. Please pay attention to verse 24-26 - which is the method provided to deal with jealousy. Gal 5:19 Now the DEEDS OF THE FLESH are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20: idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, JEALOUSY, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21: envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22: But the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23: gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law 24: Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires 25: we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit 26: Let us not become boastful, challenging one another, envying one another. (Caps are for my emphasis) Shalom Azure |

1771 | How much of Torah is to be followed? | Rom 7:4 | azurelaw | 192966
Dear Y'shua Ha Mashiach Talmid, Well, you've got a pretty long user name. I hope my post would not sound rude to you. I appreciate your diligent study on the Bible and your effort put in studying Hebrew, too. However, I believe we can still understand post pretty well even you write only in English. Your insert of those Hebrew words though seems rather interesting, I am sorry they would sometimes confused my reading. I believe you will also be confused if I use the same pattern to write my post in Chinese, say : sheng ling (Holy Spirity), fa li sai ren (Pharisee), Yage (James), xing ye quan shu (the New Testament)... and so on. :-) While making use of the original language in explaining scriptures are usually needed, however, when it comes to be overly used could cause redundancy. I apologize if I offended you. Yet, I think the media of communication in this forum is English unless where there is a necessity. zhu en chang zai (God's grace be with you always) :-) ping an (Shalom) Azure |

1773 | Abel,s sacrifice acceptable, Cain's not? | Genesis | azurelaw | 192915
Verse 3: Cain brought "an offering" Verse 4: Abel brought "the firstlings of..." The contrast showed Cain's attitude was so much inferior to that of Abel's. Cain had no respect on God. Verse 5-7 revealed that Cain had pride in him and did not repent for he showed anger to God's refusal. He had something very wrong in his motive in offering sacrifice. Hope the above helpful. 1777 | baptism by emersion only? | Matt 3:16 | azurelaw | 192867
Dear pogolue, For your information, my denomination employs baptism by sprinkling and my father have me baptised when I was an infant. I am still happy with my church which teaches according to bible. My search for your question has brought me to the below sites which hold argument with different stands (the sprinkling and the immersion) and I hope you find it helpful in understanding the topic. http://www.all-of-grace.org/pub/others/baptism.html http://www.ccs-hk.org/DM/Bapt_mode.html May the Lord keep us in His union for we are baptized to His body. 1778 | give and it shall be givin | Luke 6:38 | azurelaw | 192838
Dear Mike, Hope the below is helpful. Shalom Azure ****** The Lord's discourse is divided into several branches. Verses 20-26 The contrast between the remnant, manifested as His disciples, and the multitude who were satisfied with the world, adding a warning to those who stood in the place of disciples, and in that gained the favour of the world. Woe be to such! Remark also here, that it is not a question of persecution for righteousness' sake, as in Matthew, but only for His name's sake. All was marked by attachment to His Person. Verses 27-36. The character of God their Father in the manifestation of grace in Christ, which they were to imitate. He reveals, note, the Father's name and puts them in the place of children. Verses 37, 38. This character particularly developed in the position of Christ, as He was on earth at that time, Christ fulfilling His service on earth. This implied government and recompense on God's part, as was the case with regard to Christ Himself. Verse 39. The condition of the leaders in Israel, and the connection between them and the multitude. Verse 40. That of the disciples in relation to Christ. Verses 41, 42. The way to attain it, and to see clearly in the midst of evil, is to put evil away from oneself. (John Darby’s Synopsis of the Bible) |

1779 | What is Jacob's trouble? | Genesis | azurelaw | 192794
Dear Grace, Subject to my previous post, I am sorry that I did not answer fully to the point. I hope the below additional information is helpful for your understanding of the topic. ****** "Here God speaks through His prophet Jeremiah, telling of the 'Great Day', concerning the brief but intense period of testing which shall come upon the Nation of Israel: 7 Alas! for that Day is Great, so that none is like it: it is even the Time of Jacob's Trouble, but he shall be Saved out of it. (Jeremiah 30:7)" (http://www.tribulation.com/prtjacob.htm) "Verse 7. Alas! for that day [is] great,.... For sorrow and distress: so that none [is] like it; such were the times of Jerusalem's siege and destruction by the Romans; and which was an emblem of those times of trouble from antichrist in the latter day; see Matthew 24:21;..."
