43 | Woman's sin worse than man's? | Eph 5:33 | ava4 | 66293
Rabbi Mark, Lack of a personal profile always bothers me. Just as belonging to a local congregation will bring us to accountability because we are a known quantity among our brother's and sister's, so, too, may a personal profile on this site go toward removing some the anonymity you have been enjoying that has permitted you to continue with your pompous attitude toward fellow forum members and believers in Christ. I have been reading your 'postings and I am struck by your condescending manner. While you 'use' verses very well to 'instruct' others you are puffed up with an insidious pride that reveals, to me, you have failed to be instructed by the verses yourself. Perhaps if you would lay your crown at the foot of the cross and surrender yourself to Christ Jesus, your arrogance would take flight and you could begin a proper relationship with God in Christ. yours in Christ, dennis |

44 | Why church? | Heb 10:25 | ava4 | 65707
I have to agree that church is not manditory... as salvation certainly isn't dependent upon church attendance. Having said that, let me say, also, that choosing to avoid church is a little like choosing to avoid food. In both cases we will suffer lack of growth, begin to waste away and eventually die. It's all a little bit silly to believe we can reject either..don't you think? Over 20 years ago I found myself in a cult-like church and felt that God had abandoned me and had allowed me to be deceived. I took it personally and I determined that I did not need, nor want any part of church...ever again. My decision resulted in a futile exercise of 'running in place' and the longer I ran on my own the weaker I became. At the end of 20 years without fellowship my Christian walk had so deteriorated as to be indistinguishable from a that of a non-believer. To consciously avoid church and the fellowship it provides is to avoid the most basic command of our Lord Jesus Christ... John 13: 34 and 35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." When we decide against participating in the fellowship of Christ in context with His church we, in effect, are deciding against the Lord's commandment to love one another. When we are out of church we are out of context with Christ. The Bible would have us understand that the church is the body Christ..the community of believers in Christ...it is meant to be the believers new family provided by God in Christ. It is within this family of believers that our walk is given credibility and that we are held accountable and, even, more importantly, we are fed and we grow.. Without fellowship with our brother's and sister's in Christ it is difficult to be any more than a nominal believer, at best, and growth is next to nonexistant. My recommendation to anyone who may be deciding against church...rethink your position. I would suggest to you that, just as you cannot avoid food without disasterous consequences to the health of your physical being.. neither can you avoid the spiritual food provided in the fellowship you will find in church without reaping disasterous and dibilitating effects on your spiritual life and being. Love, in Christ,....dennis |

47 | Why church? | Heb 10:25 | ava4 | 65725
Hi EdB,..did you read my post in it's entirety? It should be apparent to any who read it that my tone is compatable with that of the author of the verse in question. Which part of my post didn't warn, or urge the person to re-think their position and, instead, to seek church? Although I included some anecdotal material it was included as a rather sad first person experience of what happens when we choose against going to church. I'm not certain that I understand what point on what point, or points, in my post that you are basing your objection upon. In light of the total of what I wrote my purpose should be clear and obvious to all. Ed, I am willing to be corrected if it can be shown to me that my intention was anything other than to support the words and spirit of the writer of Hebrew's 10:25. Please read my posting in it's entirety. Yours in Christ...dennis |

Hi EdB, I had never been made aware of the 3 dot issue but, now that I know about it I wiil not repeat it. I can see how that would raise red flags. I didn't take your comment as a malicious attack rather, I was truly puzzled by your reaction. As I thought my profile would make abundantly clear, I am all about church having lived too long without it. You do not know how much I appreciate you taking time to respond both then and now. I only suggested that our exchange go to e-mail to avoid adding any strife into the public forum. Again, thank you for responding my friend. Your's in Christ, dennis |
