41 | Can women preach in today's society? | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 197584
Matt 28:17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some were doubtful. Matt 28:18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Matt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Matt 28:20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Mark 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16:16 "He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. Luke 24:5 and as the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living One among the dead? Luke 24:6 "He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, Luke 24:7 saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again." Luke 24:8 And they remembered His words, Luke 24:9 and returned from the tomb and reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Luke 24:10 Now they were Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James; also the other women with them were telling these things to the apostles. Acts 1:11 They also said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into the sky? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in just the same way as you have watched Him go into heaven." Acts 1:12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey away. Acts 1:13 When they had entered the city, they went up to the upper room where they were staying; that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. Acts 1:14 These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. Acts 2:17 'AND IT SHALL BE IN THE LAST DAYS,' God says, 'THAT I WILL POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT ON ALL MANKIND; AND YOUR SONS AND YOUR DAUGHTERS SHALL PROPHESY, AND YOUR YOUNG MEN SHALL SEE VISIONS, AND YOUR OLD MEN SHALL DREAM DREAMS; Acts 2:18 EVEN ON MY BONDSLAVES, BOTH MEN AND WOMEN, I WILL IN THOSE DAYS POUR FORTH OF MY SPIRIT And they shall prophesy. Your question is can women preach in today's society? The answer is yes. Preach in society in the sense of proclaiming Christ the Messiah. If you are looking for women in the church preaching that is a different story. Hope this helps. May God bless. |

sqkeener1955, We are in a race in the christian life. Keep your eyes on the prize, the Lord Jesus. There are some good verses in the bible to hang on to when we feel frighted or inadequate. One I would suggest is that when you have these feelings is "When I am afraid I will trust in Jesus". You can say this over and over until the anxiety goes away. Tell Him you need Him and ask Him to calm you. Take time to get in a quiet, calming place away from the noise of the tv and radio and be still. Mediate on Jesus and how much He loves you. Also make time for yourself by going and having a complete physical, tell the doctor about your anxieties and see what suggestions he has for you. Sometimes diet and exercise as well as vitamins help. Be sure and pray and read the bible every day if just for a few minutes. Believe what it says and obey what it says and you will be fine. You can do it, remember Jesus said I will never leave you nor forsake you. So when you are feeling down, say I know you are with me Lord and will help me through these feelings. Thank you Lord for loving me. I praise you for you are my God and my Redeemer. Use your own words to express yourself to Him. Ask Him to help you accept the grief you still have for your son and work through the pain. He will help you. Ask Him to help you to forgive yourself for the failures you've made and then accept that forgiveness for yourself. Forgive yourself. Say I am covered by the blood of Jesus and I know that He has forgiven me because I seek to do His will and obey Him. Always remember that He paid your sin debt and cleansed you. It is because of what He did that you can face each day. Ask Him for strength and wisdom each day when you get up and at night ask Him to forgive you where you have failed Him and then thank Him for that forgiveness. God loves you so much. Lean on Him. Find a good song you like about His love and sing it in your heart every day. Sometimes good praise music, not sad music, helps our spirits and uplifts us. So stay away from the sad movies and tv programs and watch only wholesome programs. May God Bless and Keep You Val Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. |

Dr. Steeno, what do you ask for when you pray? Are you saying that after we have become a christian we no longer sin? If you don't mind me asking what denomination are you in that teaches this view?

Dr. Steeno, Thank you for providing the scripture. Tell me if I am wrong but I see you are discussing law and grace. Is it that you believe asking God to forgive us for our daily sins is somehow going back under the law?

Dr. Steeno, could you expound on the thoughts behind your question so I might better understand? Thank you.

The word "confess" means, literally, "to say the same thing." That is, we are to have the same attitude toward sin that God has. When God says in the Scriptures that something is sin, our immediate response should be, "That's right, Lord, that is sin. I renounce it. I agree with you about what it is and I am grateful for the blood of Jesus Christ that cleanses from all sins. And I thank you, Lord, that you are faithful and just in your dealings with me." (It should be noted that in Greek the word "sin" in verse 9 is preceded by the definite article "the". Thus, God forgives "the sin" we confess but also cleanses us from all unrighteousness.) We experience renewed fellowship. Forgiveness of sin to maintain fellowship with the Lord depends on confession of sins, and cleansing of defilement from the sin nature depends on walking in the light. - Charles Swindoll and Roy Zuck Repetitive Fellowship Forgiveness: Time: When a Christian confesses his sin; Means: Jesus' ministry as the believer's High Priest; Nature: Conditioned on confession; Result: Fellowship with God Restored (1 John 1:9) - Wendell Miller |

God has provided for what may be called "initial judicial forgiveness" and also for "repetitive judicial forgiveness." The first provision - initial judicial forgiveness - is given when a person receives Christ as his or her Savior. This forgiviness of sins is availabe because of the death of Jesus Christ on the Cross. He has offered one sacrifice for sins forever, Heb 10:12. Any sins we commit after salvation is applied through Jesus Christ's continuing work as our Advocate each time we sin whether we confess the sin or not. As our Advocate Jesus Christ has paid for that sin on the cross too so we are still judicially (positionally) perfect, 1 John 2:1; this forgiveness is unconditional. This may be called "repetitive judicial forgiveness." The passage in question John 1:9 deals with our fellowship. We are to walk in the light. We do not have fellowship with Him if we are walking in darkness. When we confess our sins, the estrangement and loss of fellowship with the Lord is restored. In 1:9 the plural word "sins" suggests that John was referring to acts of sin,not the sin principle, as in verses 7 and 8. The blood of Jesus goes on cleansing us from sin as we walk in the light. But specific acts of sin are to be dealt with by confession and forgiveness. So this provision may be called "repetitive fellowship forgiveness." Charles Swindoll, Roy Zuck, Wendell Miller |

Yes the gnostic teaching had begun as history tells us. However, the purpose for John writing 1 John and determining who he is writing to might help us. John tells us in seven different verses his purpose for writing: 1:4 - And these things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. 2:1 - My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.. 2:12-14 I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name's sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning, I am writing to you, young men, becuase you have overcome the evil one. I have written to you, children, because you know the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you know Him who has been from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong , and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 2:21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 2:26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life. We see from these verses that John was writing to the believers and was warning them of those trying to deceive them, possibly the gnostics. |

Dr. Steeno, first of all I am a girl and second of all I am not trying to convince you. Only the Holy Spirit can open eyes, yours and mine. Lets ask Him to do that and if He desires to postpone it until a later time then lets let it be. As you have said we have come to a point it seems that we must move on. May God bless you. Val |

If someone told you they had a vision after someone had died and in this vision was the Lord and other known family members taking the new one by the arm and leading them, what would you say? Would you believe them or think they are fradulent?

She says it was a vision; didn't give any details. She also confesses Christ as Lord. She says she is a speaker at different churches and groups. I am just wondering how I would approach her to say this is outside the norm. I like your scripture that Christ is seated but he is also everywhere also since he is omnipresent, right? That is funny Hank, so your saying in essence I shouldn't take her seriously, right? What would you say to her next time she brings up the topic? I am at a lost for words. Still meditating on the posts I received which were excellent- Blessings Val

You are right it does disturb me when people get off the right track especially someone I know personally. The Lord has given us His word and it is plain and easy to understand. I want to point her back in the right direction without alienating her. I believe she is fragile emotionally. That is why I am hesitant as to how to proceed. I am a pretty bottom line person as most of you seem to be. I believe it will take a lot of wisdom to not say words that might crush her now that she seems to want to pursue God. I know that God is in control of this situation and I rely on Him. I value your expressions and gleen much from them. Thanks Val

I will do that. That is an excellent example Doc gave. I will use it if the Lord gives me the opportunity. Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. Blessings, Val
59 | taking the name of the Lord in vain | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 200418
Pray for your co-worker and do acts of kindness for him. Some time after you feel you have established a rapore (?) with him - tell him in a kind way how much you love Christ and how it hurts you when you hear his name used that way and you wish he wouldn't do it in front of you. If he doesn't stop at least you know you took a stand for your Lord. Commit him into the Lord's hand and He will take care of it for you. Blessings, Val Oh and be sure and do it privately - not to embarrass him in front of other people. Ps 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. |

60 | How do I forgive adultry if it continues | Bible general Archive 4 | Val | 202109
TJS Your statement "In this case, forgiveness is given with repentance, but repentance includes stopping the behavior that one is forgiven for. Their marriage is living in sin now, because they have not stopped the sin. By my read of the bible, two adultering spouses that marry are always living in sin, even if they ask for forgiveness it will not be given untill the sin is stopped." Please refer to the life of David the king of Israel 2 Samuel 11 and 12. Notice 2 Sam 12:13 Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." And Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has taken away your sin; you shall not die." At what point did the Lord take away the sin? Now look at 2 Sam 12:24 Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and went in to her and lay with her; and she gave birth to a son, and he named him Solomon. Now the LORD loved him 2 Sam 12:25 and sent word through Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah for the LORD'S sake. Notice the words the Lord loved him and named him Jedidiah. The Lord certainly forgave the adultery. We see in David's life consequences from this event the rest of his life as four of his children die. We know this because we read it in the bible. David's relationship with the Lord is restored as we see in his Psalms 51 and Psalms 32. Divorced people do not have to live under condemnation when they have repented and sought the Lord's forgiveness. David moved on with the Lord's blessing and so should we. A thorough study of David can be found at Precept.org - 1 and 2 Samuel Precept Upon Precept. Refocus and serve the Lord with gladness. Blessings to you - Val |
