381 | Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? | Jon 2:2 | Val | 211978
Newwine my friend, I have studied Jonah in depth. I see you think your view is the correct one and that is fine. We will just disagree on this topic. We have each voiced our views so lets move on. Your sister in Christ - Val |

382 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194563
I understand what you are saying about the tithe and personally believe that since we are saved by grace alone as the book of Galatins speaks that we have liberty in our relationship with Christ in many regards. My question is why do some pastors insist upon the tithe and some members make those who don't tithe feel inadequate by telling them they are out of God's will and they somehow don't love God as much as they do. I have even heard preaching that if you don't tithe that - they say - and I don't agree - that God will get it some other way. Why do you think they hang on to this teaching besides the obvious answer being they get to spend the money?
383 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194632
So do you think we should give of our sheeps and goats like Abraham and the storehouse was the temple. So since the temple has been torn down what temple are you talking about?
384 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194640
"Although Christians should not be encouraged to redirect their giving from their local churches completely, there also should not be any legalism involved in how and to whom money is given. So, if believers feel the need, and God's direction, to help ministries outside of their local churches, it would be hard to say that they are disobeying God's Word if they give as the Lord has directed them to give. Remember that God is concerned more with the attitude in giving than with the actual gift or designation of it." 385 | does God intend for us to pay tithes | Malachi | Val | 194694
You stated "So we can not categorize tithe as a law. Just something that we do to honor God, and not doing it, as he pointed out in Malachi, is robbing him." Browbeating is a type of force to control others and is not within the spirit of the attitude of cheerful giving. You may make some people feel guilty and they will give but they probably will not be doing it cheerfully but as a result of pressure and intimidation. "Luke 3:14 Some soldiers were questioning him, saying, "And what about us, what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do not take money from anyone by force, or accuse anyone falsely, and be content with your wages." As has been stated in this post previously a dogmatic interpretation of this verse in Malachi causes offense and prejudges believers causing division and conflict. As I have pointed out as well as others there is an inhouse debate in christendom about this topic as you see in the article I posted. So please don't imply that those who do not hold to your interpretation are robbing God. That is not appropriate. As Hank reminded us, this is not a discussion forum so let each view stand as is. |

387 | May we claim rewards for tithing? | Mal 3:10 | Val | 205585
Pastor Tim, it is good to hear of the good things your church is doing to meet needs. Just out of curiousity what does your church do for widows and orphans or is that something that is left up to individual church members? I know we are suppose to care for widows and orphans of our own family. Blessings, Val
388 | How should we Pray? | Matthew | Val | 190866
The book of James tells us how to pray as in James 1:5 ask for wisdom from God , verse 6 ask in faith, not doubting, but expecting an answer. James 3:17 says the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy, and the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace. James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, your sinners; and purify you hearts, you double-minded. James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord James 4:15 Pray for the Lord's will James 5:13 Pray for the sick James 5:16 Pray for one another James 5:17 Pray earnestly |

392 | Torn veil of Mat 15.38 the literal veil? | Matthew | Val | 212693
The second coming should also be taken as literal: The Second Coming of Christ – This verse speaks to a literal appearing of Christ: Hebrews 9:27-28 “just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time,, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” This verse speaks to a literal blessing of Israel: Deuteronomy 30:3 “Then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you”. This verse speaks to the ultimate spiritual revival of Israel: Deuteronomy 30:6 “Moreover the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.” This verse speaks to judgment on her enemies: Deuteronomy 30:7 "The LORD your God will inflict all these curses on your enemies and on those who hate you, who persecuted you.” This verse speaks to her exaltation and prosperity – 30:9 "Then the LORD your God will prosper you abundantly in all the work of your hand, in the offspring of your body] and in the offspring of your cattle and in the produce of your ground, for the LORD will again rejoice over you for good, just as He rejoiced over your fathers;” These verses speak to Israel’s failure to respond to God’s calling resulted in blessing on the Gentiles in the present age – Romans 11:11 “I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. 12- Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be! 13-But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, 14- if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them.15- For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? 16 - If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.” These verses speak to the grafting in of the gentiles – Romans 11:17” But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich[8] root of the olive tree,18- do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. 19- You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in."20- Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; 21- for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.” These verses speak to Israel being grafted in again – Romans 11:23-“And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24-For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?” These verses speak to the hardening of Israel until the full number of gentiles come in. Then after this all Israel will be saved. – Romans 11:25- “ For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;26- and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, "THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION, HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB."27- "THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS.” This verse speaks to the natural branches, Israel, being grafted back in at the Second Coming – Romans 11-27. Paul added that when Christ comes Israel will be delivered – Romans 11:26-27. These verses also speak to the Second Coming: Jude 14-15, Rev. 3:3, 10-11, Rev 1:7, Rev 19:11-16, 2 Peter 3:3-7. Prophecy is just as certain as history. It will be fulfilled in God’s time and way – and perhaps relatively soon. Val |

Prayer and love. Keep reading the bible and studying it daily and pray for them. Ask God to open up an opportunity for you to witness to them one on one. At that time if you have been in the word and prayer you will know how to answer them by the power of the Holy Spirit. Don't fret over their not believing the bible. If you do you will lose focus as Peter lost focus when he looked at the water rather than keeping his eys on the Lord. Blessings - Val

398 | How many generations betw Exodus-Solomon | Matt 1:17 | Val | 207217
Ruth was a gentile. The book of Ruth is about Boaz being the kinsman redeemer. It shows that Christ is the kinsman Redeemer for gentiles as well as the Jewish people. Boaz was a type of Christ. I haven't had time to read the whole thread but I have studied Ruth. There are many people who were formerly in darkness but are now in the light. There is a place in the bible that says "such were some of you but you have been washed" So the fact that Rahab was a harlot should not cancel out her being in the line of Christ. We are saved by grace alone. So it does not matter what ones prior life was as Christ paid the price for our sins on the cross and nailed them there. This is what makes the blood of the cross so precious. What can wash away my sins, nothing but the blood of Jesus. Rahab is recorded in Hebrews as a woman of faith. Her being named there is quite a place of honor. The focus should be on what Christ did at the cross not how good we are that saves us. The fact that no one deserves heaven - means no one. Our righteousness is as "filthy rags". Even those who by all appearances are upright and haven't committed any of the bad sins. The book of Galatians tells us what grace and faith are all about. |

399 | How many generations betw Exodus-Solomon | Matt 1:17 | Val | 207218
Jim, as I understand it, God has always been merciful to any person who would put his faith and trust in Him as He is the creator of all humankind. In the first book of Genesis He says to Abraham that all nations will be blessed through you. This means "all nations". Gentile nations. There is no punishment to a person who puts their faith and trust in Christ alone. That punishment was paid for on the cross. Christ made propiation for our sins. God has always had a believing remnant. Abraham was justified by faith in God. When Christ came to earth He was rejected by His people. Paul preached to the jew first then to the gentiles. Its all covered in the bible. Christ has always shown mercy to people who put their faith and trust in Him (Jehovah God) in the old testament and new testament whether jew or gentile.
