801 | Is water baptism necessary for salvation | 1 Cor 12:13 | Rowdy | 120739
You bring up a perfectly valid point: Why is there so much disunity in the christianity we see in our world when there was perfect unity and harmony in the christianity we see in the NT? Copied from your post for reference: "If that were true, why are the denominations so divided over it? Some believe in sprinkling an infant for its eternal salvation, others believe baptism is necessary for salvation, still others that baptism is not necessary but certainly advisable after a statement of faith. God is not a God of confusion and yet the very people who profess faith in Him seem to have so much confusion." I'm slightly biased toward water baptism, I guess I've already shown that BUT I'll attempt to be truly objective and look at this matter with an open mind. First of all, to be truly objective, we have to admit even in the first century, the christians there didn't have absolute 100 percent unity as shown in Acts 11 with the controversy about "to circumcise or not" in order to be a christian. We see Peter get a special revelation and thus christianity is forced out of the Jews' hands and given out throughout the whole world and Peter has to be reminded of this fact afterwards as recorded by Paul in Gal 2. But now to deal with the controversy at hand, your question. First of all, let's look at the history of sin and this art of deception as perpetrated by Satan. We all know he is the master at deceiving human beings as we see in the Garden of Eden. He took the statement from God Himself "Eat of the fruit from the tree and you'll die," and inserted one single word NOT. He sold this crock of lies to Eve and then to Adam through Eve, and thus got mankind kicked out of the Garden for all time. So he is the perfect opposite of our Lord and Savior, the perfect teacher, taking a simple command from God to abstain and perverting it to something so horribe. So here's my point, the devil tempts mankind to accept God's Salvation on man's terms. We want to worship on a day of our choice. We don't want to submit ourselves to God's Plan in every detail so we just modernize it. Then we modernize the elements of worship with all kinds of innovations and we walk away feeling great about our worship assembly because we have praised and glorified God. BUT have we? Does a son honor his earthly father's wishes when he looks for loopholes in his father's last will and testament? Does he the son really fulfill the actual intent of the father when the son skillfully dodges the intended milestones and standards of measuring that fulfillment? I would humbly submit to you that is not my idea of true love and devotion to that father. Why would we think differently of our Heavenly Father? He offers the gift of salvation but as I understand His Word, our Bible, we should comply to the best of our ability with His terms and conditions. Now, true enough many people sincerely study God's Word and conclude their own particular interpretation of that guidance. And then they follow that guidance to the best of their ability. For that I would commend them except they must continue to study God's Word. We must see ourselves as the Ethopian enuch, study with an open mind and pray for guidance. We should read God's Word with the idea that It does speak plainly to our hearts as much as possible, especially about elementary subjects like those as salvation and elements in worship. To do anything less can be compared to idol worship, fashioning the church we read about in the Bible to our liking in this modern age. Please understand, I write this post for the vast majority of those participating on the Forum so that's why I bring in so many tie-ins. It all boils down to whether or not we're going to submit ourselves to the authority of God's Word or dare we to think we can alter just a little bit, to modernize it. We must see Perfection can't be improved upon; we can only strive to match it. As human beings, we can never hope to match what we see in our Bibles, happening in the first century. But God expects us to strive for that and "draw closer to Him so He can draw closer to us." I sincerely do hope this helps in your study and understanding. I'd be interested in your response. God bless. --Rowdy |

Amen, dear friend. Keep studying and praying. Our way of life may just change sometime in the near future. I pray it will improve toward God's Will but I'm very much afraid things will get worse before they much better. It's almost like our world of Christianity, at least here in America is an alcoholic and needs to hit bottom before we'll give up this addiction to a convenient and comfortable lifestyle. I gotta hush now and climb off this soapbox. God bless. --Rowdy |

804 | Do our works keep us saved? | 1 Cor 12:13 | Rowdy | 120788
Hank, my dear friend and fellow Bible student, I must respectfully disagree with you. We don't have very many but the following is a clear case of a christian with the wrong priorities who was specifically told to repent. Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent them Peter and John, 15 who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit. 16 For He had not yet fallen upon any of them; they had simply been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, "Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." 20 But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! 21 "You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. 22 "Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you. 23 "For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity." 24 But Simon answered and said, "Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me." Here Simon wanted these miraculous powers for his own gain instead the Lord's. We must learn from his example and put our own talents to work and be fruitful for the Lord as described in James. This teaching on repentance and the teaching in 1 John of staying in the fellowship of light from God teaches very clearly that even christians must repent and do it often. There's no significant difference between christians and the world of sinners in this regard. We all sin daily but we've got the Grace of God and the blood of His Son to cover us, enabling us to go to Heaven. But continued and unrepented sins in our lives can quite possibly keep us out of Heaven as depicted in 2 Pet 2:22 Of them the proverbs are true: "A dog returns to its vomit," and, "A sow that is washed goes back to her wallowing in the mud." Hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

805 | Loud Mouthed Christian: Help! | 1 Cor 13:1 | Rowdy | 114498
I can only suggest that you refer your friend to Paul's letter as referenced above, but it would be good to refer her specifically to Chapters 12, 13 and 14. The most important feature that we are to learn is that in the manifestation of God's Gospel to us is that He should get the glory. If there's any other motivation involved, it's NOT from God. The most attractive characteristic of a true christian is NOT how much they're spouting His Word but how much love they're showing in their actions. Everyone knows "actions speaks volumes over our words." You might also remind your friend that God's Word is already been completed thousands of years ago and there are no supplements allowed as per Paul. 2 Cor 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 4For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough. 5But I do not think I am in the least inferior to those "super-apostles." Further, we know from Paul's letter 2 Tim 3:10-17, God's Word was completed long ago AND there would be those who would try add to or pervert God's Word. So urge your friend to compare her words and make certain they match those in the Bible, else she'll be labeled a false teacher. I hope God blesses you with patience and tolerance as both of you grow and mature in your journey toward Him. |

806 | Word Study ... done away - cease | 1 Cor 13:8 | Rowdy | 115496
Yes, I do believe that Paul was predicting the demise or the slow disappearance of miraculous powers in favor of the written Word in our Bibles. BUT just in case there are those that don't see it that way, we should agree on the definition of just what a miracle is. The miracles in the Bible are always depicted as something supernatural, something that goes against the laws of nature, something that is so fantastic it can't be explained any other way. For example: restoration of life to a dead body, gift of sight to a grown person born blind, restoration of a limb after being cut off, all of these w/o medical procedures or mechanical devices. Then we're talking about clear-cut, undeniable miracles manifested by human beings. Otherwise, we're talking about miracles manifested from God directly to the recipient, right? What is your opinion? God bless. |

807 | Word Study ... done away - cease | 1 Cor 13:8 | Rowdy | 115752
Sorry, I wasn't clear with my statement. In that post I was referring to whole package of empowerment received by the Apostles from the Holy Spirit upon the first day the church was established. I realize there's a wide debate about whether these powers exist in today's world. To me, this verse is very clear about the Bible being completely perfect and no need for miraculous powers in this present world. My main goal was to see if we could some kind of consensus on the Forum as to just what is a mircle? What does it mean to prophecy? And speaking in tongues? I would suggest that we stick with the Bible definitions for these activities. What do you think? God bless. |

808 | Are miracles for today? | 1 Cor 13:8 | Rowdy | 133168
Just trying to help with a post from my past. Apparently you and the others of your faith are getting a lot of heat because of your background. I thought I'd try to help you and some others get to the actual root cause of all the controversy. You see, here at the Study Bible Forum, ALL of us believe in ALL of the Bible and the Bible's most emphatic point to us modern earth dwellers in this century is that Jesus Christ is the Living God in charge of this world. He came to this planet of sinful man for the express purpose of saving the souls of ALL mankind, past, present and future with His Perfect sacrifice of His own sinless body and life. IF a person come to the SBF to discuss and exchange views and ideas about all the above, it MUST be done WITH the acknowledgement of that previous statement being ABSOLUTE TRUTH. If we can't get that acknowledgement up front in advance from such a person, everything else is valueless and not really worthy of discussion by anyone, at least to those on the Forum. Now, I myself had absolutely nothing to do with drafting up the rules to the Forum but I try to abide by them. I know Hank and some of the others don't like it when I fail to cite book, chapter and verse when I make a statement but that's because I've cited it before in a previous post. Anyway, we ALL from an early age in life learn that we must play by the rules when we join an organization. Now your decision is really quite simple: either acknowledge the ABSOLUTE TRUTH of the statements above or refrain from posting statements of your own to the Forum. That of course DOES NOT mean that you can't read and enjoy the posts you see on the Forum. Also some of the folks on the Forum cite their own E-Mail address so you could attempt to communicate directly with them in that manner. Now the basic reason for this rigid requirement is simply to keep the Forum in some semblance of order and you know we're commanded to do that, 1 Cor 14:40. Without giving Christ His due according to His Last Will and Testament, we ALL do Him a serious dishonor and we would have to pay dearly for such an infraction at Judgment Day. There's one more subject of interest: Cults. There's been several questions back and forth about this and of course the word means different things to different people. But the one basic thing that it means to Forum participants is that a person who refuses to acknowledge the truth of Jesus as cited above would be considered to be a member of a cult. Now I realize that probably doesn't please you but I'm afriad that's a fact that's well reconized throughout the vast majority of Christendom. I do sincerely hope this clarifies the whole matter for you and the other participants of your faith. I really wish no ill toward you or anyone else. I'm afraid that's just the way things are done here at the Forum. I also pray God will bless you as you study Him AND His Son in His Word. Maintain an open mind AND an open heart to His Will. Pray often about this subject. -- God bless. Rowdy |

809 | Are miracles for today? | 1 Cor 13:8 | Rowdy | 133189
Thanks, I appreciate your note of support. I just read your profile and can identify with the difficulties of the church there in California. Just about 4 years ago, my wife and I lived in Reno, NV (yeah Sin City), and were glad to move back to the South, a little closer to home. Now I'm a deacon for the second time in my life and both my wife and I are very much active in our congregation. We both have our ministeries and really enjoy the close fellowship in the congregation. Things are also much better in our marriage. God bless you, dear friend. Rowdy |

810 | Contradiction with 1 Cor 14:22 and 24 | 1 Cor 14:25 | Rowdy | 122961
Copied for reference: 1 Cor 14:20 Brethren, do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature. 21 In the Law it is written, "BY MEN OF STRANGE TONGUES AND BY THE LIPS OF STRANGERS I WILL SPEAK TO THIS PEOPLE, AND EVEN SO THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO ME," says the Lord. 22 So then tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign, not to unbelievers but to those who believe. 23 Therefore if the whole church assembles together and all speak in tongues, and ungifted men or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an ungifted man enters, he is convicted by all, he is called to account by all; 25 the secrets of his heart are disclosed; and so he will fall on his face and worship God, declaring that God is certainly among you. 26 What is the outcome then, brethren? When you assemble, each one has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. 27 If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two or at the most three, and each in turn, and one must interpret; 28 but if there is no interpreter, he must keep silent in the church; and let him speak to himself and to God. 29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. 30 But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; 32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; 33 for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. There is an alternate interpretation to this discussion. I and millions of other christians believe as follows. First of all, I'm convinced that these two powers, speaking in tongues and phrophecy is just two of the powers bestowed on christians. Second, speaking in tongues just simply meant speaking God's Word in the first two centuries to people from all over the world through the Apostles or some select few who had never studied or spoken that language beforehand. Phropecy was an all inclusive power to speak God's Word as it applied to a new situation or in some cases to foretell the future. A prophet just as in the OT was merely a mouthpiece for God. Remember during this timeframe the NT was in the process of being written and being collected and dispersed throughout the world. The Bible clearly shows this endowment of miraculous powers from the Holy Spirit in ONLY two cases: Day of Pentacost in Acts 2 and onto Cornelius and his household in Acts 10. All other demonstrations of these powers (other than Apostles themselves) were manifested ONLY by those who received the "laying on of hands by the Apostles." So when all the Apostles died and all these other recipients died, it's clear that all these miraculous powers from human beings died with them. BUT just in case you or anyone else differs with this position, we do agree since we're Bible students that the Bible sets the standard and provides the characteristics to evaluate "miracles" from human beings in today's world, right? So we're talking about raising the dead after a several days of confirmed death, restoring a severed body part, enabling a person to see or to walk after a lifetime of not being able to enjoy these abilities. In other words, miracles must be feats of the supernatural, confirmed so that absolutely no one could possibly deny its coming from God. In this context, it's a little easier to understand verse 22. Speaking in tongues was done by God through those christians so that unbelievers would hear the Gospel and become believers. Prophecy was God speaking through christians to christians so they would know how to deal with the difficult issues confronting christians of that age without the NT and without the guidance of the Apostles in person at that moment. I hope this helps and God bless. --Rowdy |

811 | Contradiction with 1 Cor 14:22 and 24 | 1 Cor 14:25 | Rowdy | 122974
Your first point is yet another good reason why our God saw that it wasn't good for mankind to continue through this miraculous phase of Christianity. As a race of rational human beings, we really don't deal very well with the supernatural or something we don't understand. Just look at all the modern science fiction movies in today's theatres. I don't really have a solid Biblical response to your comment, as you have already quoted from scripture. We can only read and acknowledge its truth. However, on your second point/question, we do have clear Bible guidance. In Acts 2, this jump to conclusions by the public at large is seen. Suffice it to say that people in every age, men and women love to gossip and are quick to sieze anything to promote that tendancy. (My guess is, this thought of "being out of their minds" was coming from those who didn't understand the language being spoken.) My main point here is the fact that there were certain individuals who did understand; otherwise they were strictly instructed by Paul to hush and wait for an interpreter. Finally, I would challenge you and all Forum participants to come up with one single Biblical example of such a person who had miraculous abilities showing his source other than one of the two methods I've cited in my earlier post. For clarity, I'll repeat those sources: the Holy Spirit Himself as in Acts 2 and Acts 10 OR the laying on of hands of the Apostles ONLY. Thanks for participating in this discussion. Awaiting your response and God bless. --Rowdy |

812 | Contradiction with 1 Cor 14:22 and 24 | 1 Cor 14:25 | Rowdy | 122982
So we're in agreement on this point. The Holy Spirit does to this day dispense gifts to us as christians, some more to others but I'm convinced He wants to stay "behind the scene." Thus our faith is built up along with our spiritual maturity as we see the Hand of God and the Holy Spirit in our lives as They guide us through perilous difficulties and help us avoid sin if we let them. Futher, if we're studying God's Word on a regular basis and maintaining a regular prayer life, They will help us identify opportunities for doing good, dispensing acts of kindness and many other good deeds. Hopefully, our daily ocassions of stumbling are less frequent AND less severe. We grow more and more mature and less dependent on God when we can finally say with confidence and much grey hair on our heads, "Lord, take me home." "To die is gain but to keep living is Christ" and whatever Your will is, that I will do. God bless you, dear friend. --Rowdy |

813 | Contradiction with 1 Cor 14:22 and 24 | 1 Cor 14:25 | Rowdy | 122989
You're correct of course. We do need to see ourselves as dependent on God for sustanance of life, both physically and spiritually. I guess what I was trying to say is that while we're here on earth, as we mature more and more, our priorities line up closer and closer with God's and we realize we don't need God to provide for our physical needs quite as much and we certainly don't need our wants to be filled nearly as much. What a wonderful concept. Unity on such a controversial subject. It truly is a blessing, dear friend. --Rowdy |

814 | Women in the church | 1 Cor 14:34 | Rowdy | 109053
Let's remember the context of this guidance. Here Paul is addressing the christians in Corinth about the way they were abusing their spiritual gifts, especially with each other and during their worship assemblies. During these gatherings, his Divine guidance is correct: women are to maintain silence with the exception of course in their singing. But remember Aquila and Priscilla in their taking Apollos home for correcting. There, Priscilla was able to voice her words to a brother where respect could be maintained. This guidance of women's silence in the public worship setting is consistent with the balance of the Bible, i.e. the leadership of the elders and the asking of questions to their husbands. Now, please don't misunderstand. It's very important to remember I'm not advocating chavunism here, at least not man's. This is God's creation and the order of things in His universe. However, men in general CANNOT abuse and lord this power over women for they have a very important function in the Lord's church. Ladies are welcome to perform almost any function outside the worship assembly. Our ladies teach class and assist with the Deacons in their ministries. Women conduct their own classes, go to retreats and support their husbands with absolutely vital enthusiasm. Without their support, these men would not and could not possibly be near as fruitful or productive for the Lord. There's nothing more powerful than a dynamic couple, married for many years, setting the proper example for other younger couples, giving advice and love and dispensing an occasional bit of stern encouragement. I know this so well because I've been on the receiving end several times and can truthfully say, men AND women such as these have saved our marriage many times over. I look forward to the day when my wife and I can do the same and repay the Lord for his kindness and gentle guidance. The bottom line: God's pattern works when you work His pattern. |

815 | How to harmonize this passage | 1 Cor 14:34 | Rowdy | 109062
I can only respond with a confirmation of all you have cited. I don't see any problem with it but there again I did grow up in a christian home of like faith so all the women in my life (in the church) have all lived by this guidance. It has not been perfect all the time, especially when I went overseas where we didn't have church leadership, elders throughout that community. But I do think it is fairly clear here throughout God's word. Christ expects His body to be organized and follow the examples and the few simple commands that are in His Word. Remember His Word is what is going to judge us on Judgement Day. I don't see this as being an isolated case of "division or inequality." God's Word has always appeared to be slightly in favor of man over women but that DOES NOT mean men are superior to women. It's just a case of putting the cart behind the horse; that's the order of God's universe. Again, let me emphasize God's pattern works when you follow it. My question to you: Would you suggest that we NOT follow God's will when it's clear throughout His Word, that's what He wants us to do? |
||||||
816 | How to harmonize this passage | 1 Cor 14:34 | Rowdy | 109079
I guess my only response would be to invite you over and show you how it's done. I actually try to get the ladies (some of them much older than myself) to speak up during my Bible classes and most of them refuse. Every once in a while one of them (especially the younger ones) will open up and ask a question and we all (the whole class) responds with kindness and great open minds. That's perfectly OK with the scriptures as that's a classroom setting. Now don't get me wrong; it's true, we don't have any ladies leading classes with men as students but we're very much open to their participating from the classroom floor. But if they have any questions during the worship assembly, they're encouraged to communicate that thru the men folk, preferbly their husband. We have a time when Notes are solicited from everyone which are channeled to the elder who goes over them and announcements at the end of our service but this is just one way to do it. Oh, one more setting is the business meeting for the whole congregation, hosted by the elders to discuss miscellaneous topics, questions on almost anything are raised and discussed at length. I like to think we're somewhere in the middle of the spectrum on most issues, as long as we're talking about Bible based issues. Let me know which city you're in and I'll find you a congregation (or at least I'll try) that might show you what it's like. Let me know. God bless. |
||||||
817 | How to harmonize this passage | 1 Cor 14:34 | Rowdy | 109154
Again, I have to say the Bible is very, very clear on this subject. For example: Both elders and deacons are to be husbands of one wife. In other scriptures women are commanded not to ursup the authority of the leaders of the church. The scripture about women approaching their husbands for questions has been cited previously. Over and over again, God's Word is very clear on this point. The church's relationship to Christ as head is compared to the marriage relationship between a man and woman. I hate to beat a dead horse but this matter boils down to a simple matter of whether or not we are obeying God or not. Peter and John asked that same question of their court officials in Jerusalem 2,000 years ago. Each man must answer that same question every day all of us get out of our beds in the morning. This day, when it comes down to a choice between the two, will I (all of us) obey the commands of God or men? Please don't get me wrong. I'm not advocating blind obedience to something that goes against the laws of nature. We must study the scriptures with an open mind and an open heart. When we approach God's Word with respect and a determination to obey, we have to be submissive to His pattern. That's why I think it's so important to study the OT. It informs us that God did set a pattern for almost everything but He wants us to grow up and see beyond our simple, blind obedience to His dictates. He wants us to trust Him enough to know that His patterns were put into His Word for our benefit. If we follow His patterns, our world works better, just like our automobiles work better when we follow the manual and install parts in accorance with their guidance. It is a simple matter of form following function. Generally, things (especially in God's world, heaven and His church) function better for the long term when we abide with God's Perfect Maintenance Manual for us as humans. I'd be interested in seeing a response from you and all others, addressing each of the points I have cited above. I would welcome comments or questions from anyone in your congregation. How can we justify outright disobedience to God Almighty and hope to meet Him in Judgement? Please advise. |
||||||
818 | How to harmonize this passage | 1 Cor 14:34 | Rowdy | 109169
Please believe I mean no malice or disrespect. Maybe I'm a bit harsh but I was just trying to make a point. I think there's room for discussion but I must emphasize that the scriptures I've seen so far haven't given any support to the idea that women are allowed equal standing in the church with men. I realize this may not be policitically correct for our time but the Bible rarely is, especially when taken in its total. Thus we have the straight and narrow road compared to the broad way for the bulk of the world. I would like to urge you to continue studying God's word. I do think we CAN definitely comply with all of God's Word. I've already expressed my perplexity with the passage in Hebrews but I don't think it nor any of the other scriptures mentioned mean for women to take up that same standing, equal to the men in the church. But as I've mentioned, the women are definitely allowed to make their thoughts and wishes known through proper channels. Just as in the military, court system or any other system put together by human beings, God and His children MUST follow His protocals. I'll try to wrap up this discussion, at least from my perspective with this. I think the NT overall is laced with an absolute bare minimum BUT ESSENTIAL restrictions. That's part of the Lord's desire I referred to earlier. He wants us to grow up and realize most of His guidance can be inferred from the general guidance He's given throughout the Bible. Basically, we are to follow the examples we're given in His Son and His official representatives, the Apostles. God bless in your continued efforts. My praryers are on your side. Still anxiously waiting for anyone else to respond. |

819 | What the Bible says about women preacher | 1 Cor 14:34 | Rowdy | 117726
I'm afraid the Bible is very clear on this subject as follows 1 Cor 14:34 As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. 35If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. In addition to this, there are others that make it very clear, a woman's role in the church is to be submissive to the men of the congregation. She can feel free to speak out in a business meeting held for the whole congregation but then she should also maintain proper respect for the elders and deacons just as the men should. God bless. --Rowdy |

820 | Do we have to do God's will or All comma | 2 Cor 5:9 | Rowdy | 117651
I cite both passages but it looks like you really meant 2 Cor 5, right? 1 Cor 5:9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. 2 Cor 5:9 So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. 10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. On the assumption of the latter scripture being correct, it seems fairly straight forward as to what God expects from us but yes in my opinion, we will answer for our actions, our words and even our thoughts. We will face God and His Son in judgement just like He depicts in Matt 24. Another scripture useful in this discussion is Rom 1:18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. 21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. 24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen. 26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. So we see from Paul's letter that God has some pretty bad stuff in store for those that refuse to believe AND obey Him. God bless. --Rowdy |
