281 | What extra insight does this chp provide | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 131347
For context: 1 Cor 5:1 It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father's wife. 1 Cor 5:2 You have become arrogant and have not mourned instead, so that the one who had done this deed would be removed from your midst. 1 Cor 5:3 For I, on my part, though absent in body but present in spirit, have already judged him who has so committed this, as though I were present. 1 Cor 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, 1 Cor 5:5 I have decided to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. 1 Cor 5:6 Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough? 1 Cor 5:7 Clean out the old leaven so that you may be a new lump, just as you are in fact unleavened. For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. 1 Cor 5:8 Therefore let us celebrate the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 1 Cor 5:9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people; 1 Cor 5:10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world. 1 Cor 5:11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one. 1 Cor 5:12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church? 1 Cor 5:13 But those who are outside, God judges. REMOVE THE WICKED MAN FROM AMONG YOURSELVES. We can infer a lot from the OT. Throughout that dispensation, the Lord instructed the Israelite nation to maintain a pure bloodline so as to produce the Son of God. Now there were several exceptions, like Ruth and Rahab but these exceptions were blessed by God to show us demonstrations of His wonderful Love and Grace. But my main point here is back to "mainenance of God's purity" in God's familly regardless of the dispensation. God is the very epitomy of Love, Perfect Justice and above all total separation from anything that represents any semblance of sin. So God wants us, his children to come Home to Him but he must get us transformed to sinless beings. It's a refining process, as described in several places in the NT, Rev 3:18 and others. First God must get us used to the idea of doing without sin in our lives here on earth. Then with His Assistance and Grace, he is able to graduate our beings from this existance to the next, Heaven for an eternity. On the other hand, if we allow sin "to infiltrate the camp" as in the example Achan in the Israelite family, then we endanger the whole group. One of the main jobs of the elders in a congregation of christians is to maintain this purity of God's family as cited in Acts 20:28-30. The procedure for maintaining this kind of discipline is found in Matt 18:15-20. It's a serious job, one that must be approached with much humility and love for that sinful party so he will repent and turn from his wicked ways. Hope this helps and God bless. Rowdy |

282 | God's Name in the New Testament | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 132602
The only thing I can think of is to remind about the fact that God gave His Son all authority in Matt 28 to rule this world during this dispensation. This is further endorsed in Col 1:13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. 18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 19 For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, 20 and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven. I hope this helps and God bless. Rowdy |

283 | acts 15 council decides its significance | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 132863
This is a very, very old question on the Forum and has been dealt with many, many times. My particular chop on the matter is Post No 119473. Hopefully, you already know but just in case... Simply insert the key words, i.e. Council Jerusalem in the Quick Search at the upper right of your screen and you'll get a large number of posts on this subject. After reading all of this or some portion thereof, why don't you give us your chop on this controversy and ask a specific question. God bless. Rowdy |

284 | A reason for the confusion in the world | NT general Archive 1 | Rowdy | 133645
I can only respond with the words of Jesus for He foretold of these kinds of things in our world. Matt 24:6 "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end. Mark 13:7 "When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be frightened; those things must take place; but that is not yet the end. In contrast we must read on for in Matt 11:29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. and from the OT: 2 Chr 13:18 Thus the sons of Israel were subdued at that time, and the sons of Judah conquered because they trusted in the LORD, the God of their fathers. 2 Chr 14:11 Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help us, O LORD our God, for we trust in You, and in Your name have come against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; let not man prevail against You." 2 Chr 20:20 They rose early in the morning and went out to the wilderness of Tekoa; and when they went out, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, put your trust in the LORD your God and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and succeed." Ps 25:2 O my God, in You I trust, Do not let me be ashamed; Do not let my enemies exult over me. Ps 31:14 But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD, I say, "You are my God." Ps 40:3 He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear And will trust in the LORD. Ps 52:7 "Behold, the man who would not make God his refuge, But trusted in the abundance of his riches And was strong in his evil desire." Ps 52:8 But as for me, I am like a green olive tree in the house of God; I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever. Ps 55:23 But You, O God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction; Men of bloodshed and deceit will not live out half their days. But I will trust in You. Ps 56:4 In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me? Ps 56:11 In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me? Ps 62:8 Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah. I hope these scriptures will give you the courage to face these perils we all face together. God bless. Rowdy |

285 | Genesis endangerments of the matriarch? | Genesis | Rowdy | 112228
I noticed the questions from Kalos and Prayon and I noticed your response. I too am very curious and am looking forward to hearing more about this subject. Sometimes, this Forum reminds me of Paul's teaching and exchanging views in the marketplace, Acts 17 but I'm still very much interested. God bless. |

286 | was abraham ever a gentile? | Genesis | Rowdy | 112229
He was never an Israelite or a Jew in the national sense. Notice Israel as a nation was named after the father of the original 12 tribes, named after the sons of Jacob, later re-named Israel. God's family of Jews didn't become a nation until after deliverance from Egyptian salvery. So no, Abraham was not a gentile or a Jew either one. He pre-dated the whole business of discrimination between those two distinctive "races." Just like Melchizedek pre-dated Jesus ministry on earth. Pretty cool how that works out that way, huh? God bless. |

288 | Who walked with God and ascended above? | Genesis | Rowdy | 120045
Gen 5:24 Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. and Heb 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. 289 | How did fresh and salt fish live? | Genesis | Rowdy | 120874
Since the Bible doesn't address the subject, we have to conclude the Lord God Almighty took care of them the same way He took care of the carnivorous animals, (lion, tigers and bears, oh my) by not having them destroy their hosts. Who knows Noah may have even brought on board a pair of every fresh water creature. Without guidance from God, we're all left to conjecture which is questionable at this point, especially since it doesn't impact us in today's world at all. God bless. --Rowdy |

290 | Why is Eve only in the Bible one time? | Genesis | Rowdy | 122237
First of all, Eve is mentioned by name twice, once each in Chapters 3 and 4. Now why she is mentioned by name only twice is a mystery but she figures quite prominently throughout the first 4 chapters, but not by name. One has to remember that this book was written probably by Moses and most likely several hundred, maybe even a thousand years after these events happened. And then when you're talking about the only two humans on the planet, there's not much need for designating names. But just to be fair, whenever the Lord refers to Adam, most of the time, we can infer he's talking about both of them as they "are one flesh." I've already dealt with this subject to some small degree. The Bible in some ways does appear to place quite a bit more emphasis on the male role over that of the women in the Bible but that just reflects the order of God's universe. It doesn't have to do with anything like superiority of one over the other; it's God's design. I hope this helps. --Rowdy |

291 | How world began? | Gen 1:1 | Rowdy | 115486
The website apologeticspress.com has a very good series of lessons contrasting to great detail, questions and answers on this very subject. They cover all the different evolutionary theories and the factual account as reflected in Genesis. I plan to lead an adult class, starting in Apr 04, in discussing this topic and other evidences of Christianity. I'm hoping it's going to be as interesting as the website from which I get this information. God bless.
292 | Origin of God? | Gen 1:1 | Rowdy | 121771
It sounds like to me you need to go to the website Apologeticspress.org and get some assurance and confidence in the existance of God. After that, I can only suggest continued reading of God's Word. IF you truly are sincere and looking for God, you'll find Him in the scriptures. If on the other hand, you're looking for something else, you'll probably find it too, if you look hard enough. Whichever the case, I pray for God to bless you in your search. --Rowdy PS: Oh yes, pray to God for guidance and do so constantly. |

294 | Is your God superior to you? | Gen 1:1 | Rowdy | 122907
It seems you left out just one small feature out of your statement but no problem. As you say, "All can be easily corrected." You see, a very important and essential element of this picture is the fact the Jesus and the Holy Spirit are definitely part of the Godhead as clearly portrayed in the Genesis account of the creation, at the baptism of Jesus and in John 1. All three of the Godhead have their distinctive roles/function in this relationship with mankind. Of course, it goes without saying that none of these three are superior to the other. Just wanted to throw in my two cents' worth. God bless. --Rowdy |

295 | and the world was void | Gen 1:2 | Rowdy | 119054
You can also submit this question to the folks at apologeticspress.com for an expert's opinion. They've got PhDs and have been studying the subject for decades. There's quite a wide variety of opinions about so basically God expects us to look at the evidence, read our Bibles and make up our minds. God bless. --Rowdy
296 | Who is God referring to? | Gen 1:26 | Rowdy | 107933
The only answer I can think of is the obvious implication of the Godhead or the Trinity. No, the word Trinity is not in the Bible but the concept is there nevertheless. We have more proof of that in the first few verses of the Gospel of John.
297 | Who is OUR? | Gen 1:26 | Rowdy | 107934
I've always been taught the image which God created in us as humans is the single most powerful item we have in contrast to all other life on this planet. That is our soul which also has our conscience. This is the spiritual being with which our Lord wants us to come home to Him after life. While here on earth, He wants us to glorify Him by believing in Him and His Son. He also wants us to share this gospel of good news with all of mankind.
298 | Was Adam a White Man | Gen 1:26 | Rowdy | 107935
I don't see how anyone could possibly give an authoritative answer to this question. I can only surmise that ALL answers would be conjectures as surely mine is. Like the location of the Garden of Eden or its present status, I think this and several other questions alluded to in the Bible will have to wait until the end of the world. But I'd be interested in others' opinions.

300 | Did God Create Man Mortal? | Gen 1:26 | Rowdy | 107938
I say we can know for a fact that God made us mortals as plainly stated in Gen 3:19. We were made from dust and to dust, we return. BUT of course there were exceptions. During the Patriarhcal Age, men lived for hundreds of years but I think that was the miraculous hand of God maintaining their bodies to populate the earth. The biggest question you pose is that of the Tree of Life. Like you mentioned it seemed to be for our education so we could get used to idea of living forever with God in heaven but the bottom line is: We can't possibly know with any certainty as to why God installed that tree in the Garden. But as always, I'd be interested in others' opinions. |
